Transitioning from breast milk to cow milk?

My daughter was just the same when she had her check-up at about 9 months and the doctor said she should start having milk from a cup rather than a bottle. Despite loving drinking water from a cup, when I tried giving her her afternoon milk in one we had major screaming fits for a few days. I despaired of her ever accepting it, but slowly she started drinking more of it, and we finally packed the bottles away about a month ago. We just have occasional times now when she's over-tired and screams and signs "milk" when we try to give her a cup of milk, presumably wanting the comfort of the bottle, but basically, keep with it. They'll get used to it in the end.

Thats my daughters issue as well...I have no idea what to do. I NEED to wean her, but she refuses the milk in her sippy, but will drink water when thirsty. I am going to ask her doctor just how much milks she absolutely needs through out the day...

Thanks for the tips all. I am going to have to try the 1/2 bm, and 1/2 cows milk trick that many of you suggested. If that doesn't work, maybe the carnation instant breakfast. : )

that is sooooooo my baby. only WATER in the sippy! not even extremely watered down juice. and formula?? NOPE!

Mix 1/2 formula/breastmilk or whatever percentage works for him and keep increasing the milk and decreasing the form/breastmilk until he becomes use to the taste.

Hi! unlike my first son my second would not take formual when i tried giving it to him after breastfeeding for over 6 months. So I am still breastfeeding as he is not one bot interested in any other milk! I am not keen on breastfeeding after his first birthday which is this Saturday! I think i will just be stubborn about giving cow'smilk to him and persist!

It might help to use carnation instant breakfast powder to add a little flavor instead of just chocolate syrup at least there is some good stuff in the carnation powder.

I didn't read all the responses to this but have you tried mixing his formula/breast milk with the cow's milk? I did that with mine..

My daughter is doing fine we have been mixing it bm and wm. I am still doing one night nursing, but she will not take a sippy cup she will only drink milk from a bottle. How do I get her to drink from a cup?

I was able..luckily..to make the transition from breast to cows milk easily. Just went from 1 to the other. I gave him very small amounts in the first few days ie 1-2 ozs at a time & gradually increased the amount. Also, instead of mixing his pablum with water, I mixed it with a bit of milk instead to get his system used to milk as well..Now he loves his milk & he has a bit at each of his 3 daily meals :)

My daughter did not like the milk AT ALL at first and she also only drank water from her sippy cup. I just get trying and gave it to her with every meal. I think it took like 2 weeks and now shes drinks it all the time!

I just switched my boy from formula to cows milk today and he loved it. My sister had trouble with her boys though, she found it helped to add a tiny bit of chocolate flavouring to the milk.
