I'm stuck on an idea. We have a 4 year old son who has gotten all the good big things - wagon, sandbox, swing, tricycle etc.. as well as lots of inside toys. I wanted to get something he wouls play with for awhile. For Liam's 1st bday he got FP Farm and it's still played with. Help!

We are throwing a big BBQ with friends and family that are social LO will love. We also bought her a piano/musical toy that is bi-lingual. She LOVES to dance and sing so we thought it would be the perfect choice. We have enough people coming over that will give her clothes and outside playthings that we didn't think we needed to get anything else.

We're celebrating birthday month. We're giving our daughter a present a day for the month of May. Everything is little and fairly inexpensive. Today she received a bath toy. Tomorrow she's getting a Minnie Mouse bean bag toy. We picked up several board books at the dollar store. We also got some inexpensive DVDs, a birthday onesie, some Little People, some clothes, etc. We've just decided to give her one new thing a day in celebration of her wonderful self. I am also putting together a Shutterfly book of pictures for her that include baby bump pictures from when I was pregnant with her, pictures from the day she was born and then some from each month since. The book will end with pictures from her birthday month and her party with extended family.

I'm making her a scrapbook storybook with photos of all her family and people she knows. And throwing her a picnic party where she can run around with loads of other kids. They don't really appreciate things at this age, so I'm leaving the spending to the people who can afford it, and I think she'll enjoy the fun and games and company more than anything. :-)

My Twin Boys will be 1 soon, but unlike the US members, Australia is going into winter. However we were planning on getting outside toys anyway because most people will buy indoor toys and with twins everyone buys double which means we will need to buy a new house to put all the new toys in.
We are buying a matching cozy coupe car which my daughter got when the twins were born and a matching trike she received for Christmas just gone. Because there is only a 20month gap in age between our eldest and the twins, we felt doubling up would mean their is something for everyone to ride and then this coming christmas santa will bring our daughter a new bike so the trike won't even get a look in any more. Its all about forward planning when you have multiples.

We are getting our son a water table from toys r' us. He has played with one at a friends house and loved it. He also loves getting in the doggie water dish. It will be perfect for this summer. It's on sale right now for $29.99.

I figure he won't really understand what his birthday is. So I picked up some cute toys at a garage sale, I bought him some sandals for the hot weather, and I bought him a Batman t-shirt since it is a joke in our family. I think he'll like his first cupcake most of all!

Hasn't the year gone so fast LOL
My baby 1st Bday is the 4 May ...
I have brought him a shape sorter , Pop up toy - where ya push the knobs down , around up and down and a animal pops up lol
Gets them thinking too.
Also I have ALWAYS given all my children on their firsts birthdays a bike....only $30 . Get there little legs moving.
Good luck and I hope everything goes well
Let me know what you get in the end , there is just so many choices out there
Our neighbour gave us their old baby swing which you can attach to the verandah or tree branch, etc and I found another one at the op shop & my girls absolutely love them!! They are also enjoying stacking things and putting things in boxes and containers. Also toys that make noise are very popular too at this age. I found with my 2 older children they were also interested in the same things at that age.

I bought my son a swingset. I know it is crazy at this age but he as a friend with one and the squeals of delight made me do it. We put it up last week and yes Iet him use it before his birthday and it was worth EVERY penny. I bought one he could grow into from Walmart.

My little man just loves to to be around people! So, we're having a big cook-out and inviting grandparents, aunts, uncles, people from church and close friends, He loves to be outside, so we will probably buy him the step 2 sit and ride car and a water table, and an inflatable pool.

I am planning to get my daughter a classic Teddy Bear. I'm all about the classic toys! I think her grandparents are planning to give her a wagon, but since we live in an apartment, I'm not sure what we'll do with it! Maybe keep it at their house for now! :) A wagon is a fun idea.

We are looking at walk behind toys and are probably leaning toward the lion http://tinyurl.com/25sc8ub or a push cart that comes with blockshttp://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product... My parents are getting him the Little Tikes castle slide. http://www.littletikes.com/toys/climb-sl...
Anyone else who asks will be told that he would like books (we have a running list of books he has if they ask) or the Chuck trucks. He already has a wagon, Cozy Coupe and the push buggy that I got last year from a friend.
@Katie Hamilton: We love the push buggy, but the hard plastic wheels make a horrendous noise on the pavement. If you can afford it, get the whisper buggy. http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product...

I want to get my son the step 2 car that you push with the handle, but he can pretend to drive it with the steering wheel, it has a seat belt and he fits in it perfect, it's more easier to push than a wagon since it is lighter, he loved the one at our friend's house!!

We got our son a blow up pool and a water table and asked friends and relatives if they insist on buying a gift to get him age appropriate cars, trucks, tractors and outside toys. We had a girl first, so that's why we're stressing "boy" toys, lol. Good luck!! The fisher price laugh and learn home is the best also if you don't already have it, (I bought it for my daughter and kept it when she outgrew it).

We are giving our daughter an activity table that she can stand at and play with all the stuff on top. She loves books so also some board books and foam books. Also, we bought her a walker activity toy that she can push around to help her learn to walk and it has all sortsa stuff to play with on it too! Good luck!

The only true kid "toy" we are giving our son for his 1st birthday is a Fisher Price laugh & learn farm (his party is a farm-theme). But since he won't know the difference we are mostly giving some more memorable gifts that hopefully will be special for years to come. My husband has picked out a special bottle of wine in his honor, that we will keep for him to open on his 21st birthday (so it ages well). I created a personalized ABC book for him through Shutterfly. I took photos of people and things that are meaningful to Jacob (one for each alphabet letter) for the book. The last thing we've done for our son is to put his name & birthdate on a brick at a brand new playground/park in our area. It was a fundraiser for the park & we thought this would be a unique gift & something he will enjoy seeing at the park in the years to come.

We got one of these bikes, Fisher Price Roll n' ride trike, for my son when he turned 1 and it was a huge hit. He's 3 now and still rides around on it sometimes in the house. It allows you to push him/her until they are ready to ride on their own, or just use it like a rocky horse.
Naomi - posted on 04/21/2010
Hi! We are making our wee man a rocking horse and a tolley for blocks. It is so much fun making wooden toys! He loves rocking in anything and is starting to walk so the tolley will be perfect. The idea is he will pass down to his children so we are making them well! Cheers :-)

I am in the same boat - for my 4 year old we got him the wagon, and now he pretty much has every outdoor toy available. So what DO you get your 1 year old that has everything from older brother? The wagon was a great hit with our 4 year old, and now our soon-to-be 1 year old loves it too! Hook it up behind the pedal tractor or the gator, and those two kids have a ball!!

I have told family and friends that i want outside toys for him and shorts and short outfits (my son has like 3 pairs of shorts and its getting hott) lol. And he has soooo many inside toys that he doesn't need anymore of them. So were getting him outside toys like im getting a swing I can hang from the tree and stuff like that. And and my grandma is getting him a toddler recliner from Big Lots! Those are soo adorable!

We are getting him a John Deere sit n scoot from target. He can sit on it or push it as he learns to walk better. We went to a rodeo recently and John Deere had a complete set up for kids, of course my son loved the bigger ones ($200+) but we opted for this one for now. :)
