Somer is now 8 months old and I am still breastfeeding and I have not had any indication of my period. Anyone else experiencing this? I feel fine and have no feelings of pregnancy. Any ideas?

you can get pregnant while breast feeding...not as likely but still possible....happens all the time. As long as you have the parts and have sex it is possible to get pregnant...even with birth control. i used to work at a OB-GYN and a women came in for their post pardum visit and found out she was pregnant and she were breast feeding...I am breast feeding so the chances are low of getting pregnant, and may take a while to get your period or not get it at all while breast feeding....but we are soooo not ready for another so I am on the mini pill and use condoms too.

I am the same way. With my 1st daughter, I got my period 5 months post partum & was still nursing. Still nursing baby #2 & no period...I am ok with that. Dr. said it's normal to not have a period when you are nursing...

Same thing here. My daughter is 8.5 m. and on solids but I still breast feed as well. Funny, I was wondering the same thing! Not that I miss it but I'd like to try for #2 asap.

I'm exclusively breastfeeding and my period returned at month one, two, three, then six, seven, and eight. I wasn't a happy camper at all.

My daughter is 8mo old and I JUST got my period! What a bummer, I am still BF but my milk has gone down in the recent months so I had a feeling it would come soon since I only BF her 2 feedings a day and suppliment the rest.

Same thing with me! It was a little concerning so I mentioned it to my Dr., but she says it is just from breastfeeding. I also know that I am not pregnant, because you can't get pregnant without having a period, and I have an IUD. Might as well enjoy it while you can, as long as your Dr. says it's alright!

Sometimes you don't get your period until you stop breastfeeding, I think that if you were pregnant you would have some spotting, at least that is what happened with me. I am still not getting a period and my boy is 8 monthes too, no worries

My son is 8 months and breastfeeding and I also don't have my period...is this something you want? If you reduce the breastfeeding, your period will come back...apparently, a major factor is the night time feed if you are still doing that.

My daughte is almost 8 months old and I stopped breastfeeding about 4 months ago and I still haven't started my periods again yet. So it can take a while to start even after you've stopped feeding.

With my first son, I didn't get my periods back until he was 11 months old. The longest I've heard a mom go is 26 months (and I was just a little jealous!) I'm really hoping that with my new baby that I'll get longer than 11 months without periods.

Its totally normal not to have periods at all for the entire time you breastfeed, although some people do still get them.

My son is 8.5 months & I haven't had a period either. Doc says it's normal. Breast feeding suppresses your periods.

No period yet, if you are nursing full-time.
I didn't have a period until my first child stopped nursing at 14 month because he nursed at least every 3, 4 hours even after he had started his solids.
But my midwife told me an interesting thing though. When my baby was 2 or 3 month before the teething pain started, he was sleeping through the night and missing the night time feeding. I immediately felt kind of cramps I used to get before a period. She said when there was a long break my brain was trying to figure out what to do. Tha'ts why I had the cramping feeling. But then his teething fiesco started and he's been nursing a full time day and night. so that's that.

From the moment my son turn 8 months i stoped breastfeeding o well lets say he didnt care much about breast milk no more by that time. I am not breastfeeding now and i dont have period either, but in 8 months i can say i had period only twice.....maybe...

Same here, it's good to know that other people go through this, too. I had heard that 6 months was the average to not have a period when breast feeding, but I guess that's not right. I don't like having a period, but I would like to know where my cycle is to avoid another pregnancy so soon. I'm not ready for another one right now!

Vivian is also about eight months and I'm breastfeeding her as well. I had a little spotting a few months ago, but that's it. Another friend of mine that breastfed didn't get her period until she had weaned her son to about twice a day.

I really does vary from person to person as well as baby to baby. My son is 8 months old and breastfed, but I started when he was about 7 months. It was about a month after I started him on rice cereal. Up until then, he was solely on breastmilk and fed on demand... and for those of you trying to get pregnant, you can still get pregnant while breastfeeding... it might be harder to know when you will get pregnant without the period present, but it is definately possible. I know many people whose kids are 10 or 11 months apart b/c they thought breastfeeding was birth control...

Breastfeeding suppresses ovulation in most (not all) women. My baby is almost 8 months as well and no period yet either. A lot of women continue skipping until they wean their babies.

I'm the mother of three, I didn't have a period the entire time I breastfed and then it didn't start until 6 months after I had weaned my son... There are many other pros to nursing aside from the benefits for your child, 1. Your breast cancer risk is significantly lowered, 2. Easy loss of a good chunk of pregnancy weight 3. Big boobs! I had ittty bittys before and now they are D my family jokes that I'm going to breastfeed forever... I say I'll just pump forever

My son is 8 months now and I have just had my first period. I was so happy that it hadn't come yet and then it came! Whit my first child it came when she was almost 11 months old. The good thing thou is that for the first time in my life I wasn't a total pain! Two of my friends said that is was much much worse after the second child so I got really scared but I almost didn't notice it at all!

I didn't get mine back with my daughter until she was 15 months old, which is great except I wanted to get pregnant sooner than that! It wasn't until then that she went down to about three feedings a day of breastmilk. My son is 8 months old and still nursing around the clock, so nothing yet this time. Again, great except for trying to conceive!

My daughter is 7.5 months old and breast fed ... still no period for me ! I thought it might start up once she started eating solids, but still nothing. Although I love not having my period, I would like to try and get pregnant again so I am looking forward to it starting up again. From what I have read it sounds like 1 year is the average time it takes for breast feeding mom's to get their periods back.
