I had to be induced my little girl was not interested in coming out on her own. Isabelle Marah Jean was born on the 29th May at 2.00pm. She was a healthy 9 pound 1 ounce and 49cm long.

I went into hospital in the evening of the 28th to get a membrane sweep and see if I needed prostaglandin gel put on to help things along but I was 2cm and they said I wouldnt need the gell thank goodness. So they did the sweep and sent me home to sleep hoping I would start naturally over night. No such luck. I was back in the next morning and had my waters broken and to have the oxytocin drip put in my arm. I was sitting around for 3 hours doing absolutely nothing, watching tv and bouncing on a fit ball to try help things along. Around 11am I started to get contractions and for the next two hours it stayed pretty tame.
Then about 1pm it started getting pretty harsh, the contractions were hard and fast and really painful. I finally said I needed something for the pain so I got the gas to suck on. Wow that stuff gave me a head spin. I had to stand up for a short time and thats when my waters fully emptied and I needed to go back to bed. I felt I needed to push and the midwife was quite calm and was going to sort out some morphine for me but then I started crowning so I couldn't get the drugs. My baby was coming then and there. I was told to try hold back a bit when the head came out but Isabelle pushed herself out. I had a second degree tear but it wasn't nearly as painful as last time.

I didn't expect to have a girl even though we didn't find out what we were having. We are so in love with her though and her big brother and sister loves her to bits. Life after birth is going well actually, between 6am and 11pm she is on a 3 hourly feed routine and then I let her wake on her own in the middle of the night so she only wakes me up once. We are doing very well. Though my 17 month old is sick at the moment so its a bit interesting being a stay at home mum with my husband at work trying to nurse a sick toddler and also deal with a newborn but I will do it :)

Please feel free to tell about your labour experiences.

I am 29 years old (28 when she was born) and I had a great pregnancy for the most part. I was at the Dr. for my weekly check up and I was 0 cm, so the Dr. said I would probably have to be induced in 2 weeks. My due date was May 26, and this was May 21. So I went home thinking that would be the case. The next morning on the 22nd I woke up to my water broken at 445 am. Oh my...(we had the pool guys coming, I had a lunch scheduled with my boss and a few other things that day)...called my husband at work(he works overnights) told him my water broke...his response "are you serious". He came home and I got ready to go to the hospital...could not believe my water broke still...Got to the hospital by 630am...I was still 0 cm. GRRREEEATT!!! So around 10am they inserted cervadil(induces dialation) takes 12 hours....well 10pm...I was 1cm!!!!ahhhhhh so they inserted another cervadil, and they gave me ambien to sleep that night sent my hubby home...around 2am woke up with contractions...i was still only 1.5cm...by 4am I wanted my epidural...so called my hubby at home to come back...now I am 24 hours from when my water broke...so all that day (23) I slept...untl about 3pm when I was finally 10cm...pushed for a few hours...and she was face up so I was having back labor on top of having a bad back...so finally we decided after all that C-section...Camryn Rylee was fnally born on May 23 at 510pm by c section. Over 30 hours after my water broke!!!! But it was all worth it!!!

I'm 26 years old and my partner and i had our first baby together on 27th May (she wasn't due until 16th June!!).

26th May - I spent the day with my little sister. The only signs I had were a feeling like I needed to poo but I didn't actually need to & some leakage but I just thought I'd had an accident. About 11pm I felt a small gush & called my mum as I wasn't sure if my waters had gone. I put on a pad to monitor & continued watching tv in the bedroom while DP was on the xbox in the living room. At 12.45am I heard a pop, my waters had definitely broken. In a bit of a panic I called my mum who was taking us to the hospital, shouted for my DP & then called the labour ward who said to make my way in.

My contractions started straightaway every 2 minutes, lasting about 30 seconds. Me being me, totally disorganised, I hadn't packed my hospital bag so was scrambling around between contractions trying to get mine & babies stuff together. I also had to have a shower and a bit of a shave as I was paranoid of how I looked down there LOL. Eventually we arrived at the hospital at about 1.30am & was shown to a room. I really wanted a water birth, but after they had read my history (signs of pre-eclampsia etc) I was refused which I was unhappy about. The Midwife got me settled then the Doctor checked me & found I was already 7cm dilated. The rest is a bit of a blur but I remember sucking on the gas & air like my life depended on it, the midwife threatened to take it away at one point LOL.

27th May - At 4.07am on Wednesday 27th May (3 weeks early) Mia-Raye entered the world weighing 6lbs 7.5oz, 10 fingers & 10 toes & lots of black hair!! The placenta slipped out with ease and I had a 2nd degree tear so had to be stitched up.

We had to stay in for a night as she wasn't feeding but was able to go home the next morning.

I can't wait for baby number two, i love motherhood!!

hi im 30 and had my first daughter on 28th May 2009

8pound 11ounce

4:40am

i have been told on many occasions that i was lucky as she is my first and the time it took.

my waters broke at around 10:30pm my pain started getting bad at around 12ish, i got to the birthing centre at 1:30am then had my little girl in the birthing pool at 4:40am. the only problems i had was getting cramp in the pool other wise she would have come out sooner (her hed was half way out on many occasions but i kept closing my legs due to cramp lol).

no drugs wer involved, the first midwife told me that i was not ready to push as i was not making the right noises, when the other midwife come in and checked me, she put me straight into the pool so there was no time for any drugs, lol. the only pain i remember is the back pain when i was pushing her out.

i would advise anyone to try the birthing pool, it was great.

May 12, 2009 @ 8:32pm Cheyenne Emerald was born...
*she decided to come 3 days earlier than her due date- I didnt have to be induced*

It was Tuesday, May 12th at 6:00 in the morning when I was woken up by Little Cheyenne jumping on my bladder. I got up but for some reason it took EVERYTHING I had to get out of bed. I had to brace myself. I finaly made it to the restroom and even though I felt as if I would never make it, it was just a little trickle... I rolled my eyes and headed back to bed, when all of a sudden I got a cramp in my stomach- thinking it was the pizza we had for dinner I didnt think anything else of it. I couldnt get back to sleep the rest of the night/morning, so I layed there on my side rubbing my belly.

7:15 am rolls around and my alarm goes off. As I use everything I had to get out of bed once again I walked into the bathroom and got into the shower. My stomach cramp had come back but I felt relief with the hot shower. As soon as I got out my stomach started to hurt again. Still not thinking anything of it I continue to get ready for work.

I was feeling very queezy so I didnt eat anything, but I packed a small lunch bag with crackers, sprite and some water. On our way to work I got more stomach pains, but nothing to call home about... We got to 30 and Buckner when I got a SEVERE pain that made me tear up- lasting about 1 minute. I told jared, "I'm not sure if I am having contractions, or if I am just having stomach pains from the pizza last night."

He then looked at me and said "do we need to go back home?"
I said, "no, because I really dont think I'm in labor."

We walked into the office at about 8:45 and I sat down. My stomach kept getting tighter and tighter as the morning went on- so out of curiosity Gladys and I started to time my contractions. They were 7-10 minutes apart lasting 1min-1min 30 sec. I continued to work and take patients back but noticed it was getting very hard to walk from room to room. I had to sit while taking my patients vital signs.

It was 11:00 then and I sat down to check our answering machine. I got such a horrible pain that I nearly fell out of the chair! Gladys and I timed my contractions again...
5 minutes apart exactly, lasting 1-2 minutes. Dr. Bloom told me to leave.

We went home and I layed on the bed for a few minutes, and after several minutes of thinking I finally said, "Jared I think we better get to the hospital"

We got to the hospital about 12:30- they put me into triage and asked every question known to man. lol.. Had me pee in a cup, change, they monitored Cheyennes heart rate, checked for dilation and effacement- I was 95%effaced and 3 cm dialted. The nurse said, "youre not going anywhere today" then she told me to go walk the halls for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes of walking we came back and they immediatley put me into a labor and delievery room. The nurse came in a put my IV in, then gave me a popsicle! lol :) I sat on a birthing ball to take away from some of the pressure on my back.

We made some phone calls, text some others and before I knew it the nurse came into check me again. At this point my water still had not broken. But I was dilated to 4 1/2 and 95% effaced. The Dr. told them to start me on pitocin. He finally came in and introduced himself (my dr was out of town) and checked me again- all of a sudden I felt this warm gush!!!! I seriously thought I had lost control of my bladder and I peed all over the hospital bed, but he then informed me that he had manually broken my water. By this point my contractions were coming in VERY strong and I couldnt lay still!
They offered to give me an epidural- I refused!!! And told them not to ask me again (im so happy they didnt) after several hours of painful contractions my nurse checked me again "topaz, youre at a 7!" I said "ok, but i need to be 10, and it hurts!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

She then said "lets try some practice pushing- it will take some of the pressure off and you will be doing what youre body wants you to do" We started to do some practice pushing when shortly after I see my dr walk in the room and started to get all suited up! lol...

I then yelled "I CANT DO THIS!!!!" my nurse simply said "youre at 10 cm, its too late now, lets push!"

While I was pushing all I could hear was "TOPAZ!!! she had hair!!!!" (I swore up and down she would be bald)... and then I would hear "keep pushing she is almost here mija!"-mom.

Her head was out! I then felt this HUGE pinching and the dr. said "dont push!"
I yelled at him "but i have to!!!!" after what seemed like hours he said "ok, one more big push and she will be out!"

RELIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was out!!! Born at 8:32 pm...Jared cut the cord, and The placed her on my chest. I cried so much! All the pain that I went through suddenly went away! I felt no pain, just happiness and love. The nurse, then took her back to clean her off a bit and get her weight......

A WHOPPING 9 LBS, 4 OZ 20 1/2 INCHES LONG!!!!!! I was so very proud of myself! :) lol... a 9 pounder all natural?!?! what else can you throw my way?! lol.. just kidding! :)

I am 32 and my husband & I just had our first baby...Ethan. I had chronic high blood pressure, GERD & a thyroid problem before getting pregnant. I was told that I may have a hard time getting pregnant but after trying for 1 1/2 months we found out we were pregnant. The pregnancy was easy and, for the most part, uncomplicated. I stopped taking blood pressure meds as soon as I found out I was pregnant (the other meds were ok to take). My OB & I decided to take it week by week and if the blood pressure stayed under control I could go without. Everything was fine until the 34th week of pregnancy. Once a week my blood pressure would sky rocket. Once I reached 39 weeks my doctor thought it was time to induce.

I checked into the hospital on May 3rd, expecting to deliver the next day. I received meds to soften the cervix. I started having contractions every 3-4 minutes. By the next morning I was still not dilated more than 1cm so the doctor decided to give me more meds to soften the cervix & cause more contractions so that when she started pitocin it would force me into labor. Finally, after over 30 hours of hard contractions (and my doctor checking me every 4 hours) I was still not dilated more than 1cm. My doctor finally told me that there is no way he's coming out vaginally and that a c-section was medically necessary due to my blood pressure (I told the doctor that my birthing plan was to deliver vaginally unless he was at risk. I'd much prefer to have a medically necessary c-section than an emergency c-section). After much consideration (and crying) I finally agreed to the c-section. We set it for the next morning at 10am.

I was awakened at 7am by a resident that I had seen many times (at 30 weeks my OB started sending me to the hospital weekly for NST's to make sure the baby was never in distress). The resident told me she wanted to "check" me. My husband was going to get breakfast and asked if I wanted him to stay. Since I had been checked every 4hrs since I checked into the hospital I thought nothing of it and told him to go. I told the resident it was odd that my OB would have me checked again since I was going into surgery in a few hours. She told me that she just wanted to check me one last time because if I had progressed then I could have the vaginal delivery I wanted. SHE LIED! I told her that this "check" was like no other I had before & that it hurt. She told me to just relax my bottom & it would be over soon. I started to cry & yelled out a little & she told me to relax & to lower my voice. After about 5 minutes of horrific pain I was in full blown tears & screaming for her to stop. Thank goodness my room was next to the nursing station. I had 5 nurses in my room asking what was wrong. The resident asked what their problem was that she was just checking me. Apparantly, one of the nurses knew what she did & told my OB as soon as she came onto the floor. My doc thought that she was going to just check in on me then go down for her 1st surgery for the day (I was her 2nd). When my doc came into the room she explained that the resident didn't have her permission to do the procedure that she did. I looked at my doc like she was crazy. At that point I was told that the resident tried to manually dilate me & that I was at a 2. Since she did that I started doubting our plan & asked for pitocin (in hopes that maybe I could have a vaginal delivery). My OB is GREAT and even though she was upset by this she agreed. My doc was upset because she knew that the procedure wasn't going to work & had 3 surgeries after me. Once her 1st surgery was done (a hysterectomy) she came back to my room to check me again. I had shrunk back down to 1cm. After that heartbreaking news I was carted off to surgery.

The meds from the spinal made me sick & I threw up a few times. My husband was very supportive & talked me through all of my vomiting. After I vomited for the last time I asked the doc when was the section going to start (I guess I didn't hear her talking to me throughout the procedure). She laughed a little and told me she was almost in. Immediately after that comment I heard all 3 of the nurses yell out that the waters was clear. I then heard the doc say that his head was out then a congratulations it's a boy!

He didn't cry right away & was taken to the warmer. My husband rushed over & as soon as he called out our sons name he started to cry & was breathing fine. As soon as he was cleaned off he was brought over to me to see him & give him a kiss. It was the most amazing moment of my life.

I healed great & only needed the pain killers for 5 days after he was born. After all the craziness & pain I had a happy & healthy son. Our little miracle was born on 5/05/09 (yep...cinco de mayo). He was due on Mother's day but chose an earlier holiday instead. The funny part about that is that my mom was born on April Fools, my sister was born on Thanksgiving & my birthday is Christmas Day!

I am 24 and just had my second baby on the 7 of May. He was 5 days overdue, but glad he came when he did. My boy weighed 10p 10oz and it was all done naturally.

The story begins 3 days early when I went to the hospital in severe pain. He was so big I could not walk, move or sleep. I pleaded to be induced but was denied. And at that stage everything was definitely closed, no signs of labour were found. So we went home and I just cried. The next day we went shopping and walking, I started to loosen up and I was walking with ease.

The next day I decided to do nothing and I rang an acupuncturist who specialised in labour induction. Went to her and it was great, she relieved so much tension in my lower back and gave me great advise about what to do during labour. That night at my wits end with waiting thought to try castor oil. Not expecting anything.

3hrs after taking the vile stuff I was in labour. Stayed at home for 7hrs and got to the hospital where I was surprised to find out I was 6cm-7cm. I stood the whole time wiggling my hips and trying to stay mobile. The baby was coming fast. I sat on the bed the mid wife said give a push. So i did. I pushed the fella from the base of my spine till his head came out. The mid wife was in shock and she knew then it was a massive baby so she said slow down, but i couldnt one more push and he was out.

I only suffered a little tear and was out at home the next day.

I am 27 and my husband and I had our first child on May 31. She had a due date of June 28, so she was born 4 weeks premature. Due to a pre-existing medical condition, I was a high risk pregnancy. On May 25 I had to go to BC Women's Hospital for a check up, and ended up getting admitted due to high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia. I woke up on May 29 in false labour. The pain is still real!! I was having contractions 3 min apart and then everything just stopped.

2 days later my nurse checked my blood pressure and was concerned with the result, so she got another nurse to check it too. Within minutes I was on the move down to the delivery suites and was told to call my hubby. I had developed help syndrome and had to have an emergancy c-section.

My blood pressure was taken at 5pm, I was on the OR table at 7pm, I was knocked out around 8:45pm, and Caitlyn was born at 9:26pm.

I was hospitalized until June 5. Since Caitlyn was premature she had a few things that needed to be taken care of and she had to spend 9 days in the NICU. We got to bring her home on June 9.

Hi, i'm 27 and had my 1st baby on 27th May 2009. Now she is arnd 5weeks old. My baby is a preterm at 32weeks old. When i'm 31weeks pregnant(19-25may), my gynae sent to SGH to monitor her coz her head already engaged and at 2cm. I was in labour ward for 1week at SGH but the baby is doing fine in there. The midwifes and doctors tried to keep the baby as long as possible coz she's a preterm. On the 25may, since the baby is doing fine, my hubby and i request to be discharged. So i had a peace of mind my baby is ok. BUT, it does not stop there..the moment i had a GOOD rest at home, in the middle of the night, my waters started dripping! That was at 4am on 26May. We got dress up and head up to ESH which is nearest and waited for my gynae. He came to see me at 6pm that day, broke my waterbag and left me till next day. I thought the big moment has come that day..but the contractions pain took a while to really start. A few of hours, a pain comes by..and when its getting nearer to labour it really getting bad to worst that i ever imagined! Midwifes had ask if i want an epidural jab or drugs for relieve but i simply declined. I only depends on the gas, got really high kinda feeling! haha.. At arnd 5plus am it got worst, it open arnd 7-8cm and was told its getting nearer. The waterbag is really full (i nvr imagined) since it burst the day before i delivered it still continuously flushing down there! Its a total of 16hours of contraction labour! At 8.15am, my gynae turned up again and it had open at 10cm! I started pushing, at 3times, Kaisah Aleya arrives to the world at 0828hrs on 27th May 2009!

She's an beautiful angel sent to us. She had breathe on her own without any help needed. She is really a strong fighter. She came out without screaming but her eyes widely open. The midwife hit her butts den only her loud sharp scream was heard. Till now, i couldn't believe myself, i could do all this! Its a miracle. God is GREAT.

Im 25 and daisy was my third baby. Not had a very easy pregnancy had bad morning sickness and then started to suffer from preclampsia so had to be monitered for that every two weeks at the hospital.

Then at 35 weeks i found out that i had a liver disorder called obstetric cholistasis so was induced at 37 weeks.

I went into hospital at 9 in the morning an they started my induction at 11. at around 12 oclock i decided to go for a long walk around the hospital to try and get things moving. i was getting a few pains but nothing major. the midwife came to examine me at 3 and i was only 2cms so she decided to take me to labour suit so that she could break my waters. Once she did that my contractions began to really kick in. I decided to stand because all the pain was in my back and i found it easier. The midwife told me that Daisy was back to back and that was why all the pain was in my back.

2 hours had passed and the midwife checked me again and i was 4cms she told me that daisy was trying to turn her self so that she could come out. the pain was awful but i hate needles and i cant stand the gas it makes me feel really sick so i just breathed through the pain. at 7.35 i had the urge to push and after 2 pushes daisy arrived into the world 7.43pm weighing 6lb 6oz

I am 18 and living with my parents until I finish college. I went into labor on a friday and had just graduated the sunday before. i was sleeping when at around 9:30ish I had the urge to use the restroom. I got up and ran to the bathroom, wetting myself the whole way, when I got to the bathroom I was cleaning myself up when I started to wet myself again. Confused I sat back down and when I was finished I once again cleaned myself up and the floor the best I could. Once I got everything there done I called my mom up at work and told her what happened and she said that she thought my water broke but to call the hospital and ask them. I did so and they said that it was my water and I should come in so I called my mom and told her so she could pick me up for the hospital and at 10:15 I was in the hospital and really starting to have contractions but not too bad yet.

Time went by and soon it was lunch time and i could not eat but I kept remembering things I had left at home so when my mom called my dad she asked to go get those things. When he arrived around 3ish I was bored out of my mind. I was using the restroom like I should of but I felt bad every time I pushed the call button for help so I didn't push it a whole lot. about 4 or 5 I got a dose of potsin and slept a little bit..... when I actually woke up I was in so much pain because by then my contractions where coming every 30 sec. and they were strong.

As I was about to cry the nurse checked me and I was not too far from being able to get my entrathegal so she went to go ask if I could have it. About 6 or 6:30 I finally got the entrathegal and immediatly felt better and numb. With no pain around to keep me awake I fell asleep but kept itching my face and chest cause of the medicine and at 10 it was starting to wear off and I could feel things again but not too bad yet. I was also fully dilated and got to start pushing.

Letting the demon out of me I yelled at the doctor to just give me a c-section and he said no so then I yelled to just reach up and grab the baby and pull it out once again he said no and to just push, listening to the doctor I pushed and pushed some more and really started to get annoyed at my mom and nurse for telling me to push so while pushing I yelled at them to stop telling me to push. Right after that I stopped pushing for a sec. well instead of pushing again I puked..... RED! So red was coming out of both the top and bottom. My doctor made the nurses get all new things and I got to rest. Once he was ready again

I pushed a couple more times and the baby came out! My mom said "he is out you can stop!" The nurse asked "what did you say?" My mom repeated herself and the nurse said "look again!" after that everyone in the room zoomed in and looked. My mom and I looked at eachother and said "It's a GIRL!" and after that I had asked "what do we do now?" I was expecting a boy and get a girl instead so after 13 hours of labor (45 min. of pushing) and on May 22nd Italia Lee Florentin was born at 11:13 p.m. weighing 7lbs. 3oz. and being 20 inches long. I have never been happier! I love my little girl!

After a very easy pregnancy with no complications (the roughest thing was aching legs and tiredness but nothing) I didn't know what to expect with labour, I think I expected the worse as I didn't think my luck would continue to labour and birth. I also expected him to come on my 23rd birthday on the 16th May.

I woke up at 7am on the 12th May (four days overdue) with what felt like period pain. I called my mum who said I was in labour and to time the pain. They were coming every couple of minutes so I called the hospital who told me to call back when they were three to four minutes apart and I couldn't talk through them. I lazed around watching TV, reading and a movie.
Around 2pm I went to the toilet and had a bloody show so called the hospital. The contractions were more painful but I could still talk through them and walk around. The hospital said I could come in or wait till the contractions were closer together and more painful. I decided to go in so my boyfriend got everything in the car for me and we headed in. On the way the contractions got more painful and closer together. I got lost when I got into the hospital (my brain was definitely not working) but made it to the pregnancy assessment area. I had a further three contractions before I was seen and kept feeling like I needed to sit on the toilet so was running between the bathroom and my labour room.
The midwife who examined me told me not to feel bad if I was only four or six centimetres dilated but was surprised when she felt I was eight or nine centimetres and his head was very close but the waters hadn't broken.
About half an hour later I was taken up to the birth suite where the contractions got more painful and closer together. I had an extreme urge to go to the toilet where I had a massive contraction with my first urge to push and my waters broke. It sounded like a massive water balloon hitting a brick wall - it was at such a force that it came out the top of the toilet bowl onto the floor.
I had some nitro gas which made me feel out of control so I stopped taking that and it was too late for any other pain relief so I was on my own. My poor boyfriend had to watch me in pain and asked if I could be given anything to which the stupid midwife told him if he couldn’t handle it to leave. I would have killed her if she had kicked him out, stupid cow. I’m glad she left and didn’t actually deliver Jude. I had the nicest midwife actually deliver him. I only had the gas again when the midwife had to move my cervix over his head during a contraction which was a strange feeling.
I had two and a half hours of pushing in which I only swore twice (I actually apologised once which is extremely strange as I have quite a potty mouth). I think the worse thing about labour and birth for me was being so out of control, I didn’t find it overly painful apart from the burning sensation as his head began coming out.
Jude’s head was on the side which made the birth more complicated and I had to have an episiotomy which I wanted at that stage because his heartrate dropped to 50bpms so I was freaking. Once his head came out he just flew out! I couldn’t believe how big he was so just stared with an extremely shocked look on my face. His head was distorted with a huge egg on one side from how he had been laying so my boyfriend freaked a bit haha but its normal now.
He ended up being born at 7:33pm, after 12 and half hours labour with 2 hours 45 minutes of pushing, weighing 7 pound 4 and 53cms long.
is the best baby, hardly ever cries and loves people and cuddles. His daddy and I are smitten.

My name is Monica. I'm 19 years old. My boyfriend and I just had our first baby on May 14th. 8lbs 11oz. 20 inches long.

It all started when I went to L&D on Wednesday (13th) I hadn't felt any movements that day. So I was extremely worried. I called & they told me to come in. When I got there my BP was 170/92. And I was already 2 days overdue, so they wanted me to stay. I was so scared.. I didn't even have everything with me. Lol. They told me they were going to start the pitocen at 7am the next morning. Well the next morning I woke up at 6, and my blood pressure was 180/105. So they wanted to induce right away. They ended up starting the pitocen at 7. And then they broke my water at 7:30. I still wasn't feeling contractions at this point. They kept upping the pitocen, and at about 9 I started feeling extreme contractions. OUCH. Lol. I was going to try to go natural but I couldn't take it. At 11 I got the epidural. I was in so much pain, and so frusterated. They wouldn't even let me eat They also kept giving me ephedrine because my BP was so high, they just wanted to lower it.
Things were going great. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE EPI. It was a lot different then I thought. I thought you couldn't even move your legs. It wasn't too bad. Anyways lol
At about 5:30 her heartbeat kept dropping down to the 40's during contractions. So they had to shut the pitocen off. Which made my contractions go from every 1 minute to every 7-8 minutes. So I layed on my left side for a bit, and her hb went back to normal. They turned the pitocen back on.. and it kept dropping. The DUMBASS STUPID nurse didn't even think of calling the doctor in. And by the time she did, the doctor took one look at the monitor and said "I can not even look at this anymore. You need a csection, immediately." I started bawling. The last thing I wanted was the csection. At I'd say about 6:30 I got rushed into the OR, and they all started preparing, I was FLIPPING out. Cause Brian couldn't come in right away. They had to keep adding things to my IV because of panic attacks, anemia, nausousness, dizzyness.. I was on Oxygen. It was scary as SHIT. But Brian finally came in and it made everything better. Once they started surgery, they told me that I had a placenta abruption, and she would not have came out vaginally, no matter how hard I tried. I felt like I did something wrong.

I'm 25yrs old and I had my little boy on the 15th of may, 15days early. I went to my doctor on the wednesday for my normal check up only to be told i had devolopet pre-eclampsya! He also said he thought the baby was breach but after he did an internal check he said he wasn't but was prosterier. I was told to go straight to the hospital then it was lucky my mum had my 3yr old! When I got to the hospital the midwives took one look at my and said that the bub was breech! I argued that he wasn't the doc said so but after a scan iI finally belived them. The doctors said the wouldn't be able to turn him bacaues he was in a funny position and my blood pressure was too high so i would have to have a section. I was a little dissapointed because my daughter was a natural delivery but at that oint after days of head aches I just wanted wanted him out! I was taken to theatre on the friday afternoon where i met my beautiful little man Lukas James who weighed 7pound 12ounces. when i was taken back to my room from recovery I noticed that Lukas was breathing funny so the doctor took him to the nursary and checked him over. When the doctor came back he told us that he was transfering lukas to the nicu at the childrens hospital 40mins away as he had fluid on his lungs. I was stressing out cause I couldn't get out of bed to see him and he was only 2hrs old but the midwives were fantastic and wheeled my whole bed in there. when the ambulance got there he stopped breathing and it tok them a while to stabalize him for transfer lucky i didn't see as I was back in my room or I would of had an even bigger meltdown than i was having. I gott to see my bub again 24 hrs after he was born when my partner drove me up to see him. It so hard to leave him there when all i wanted to do was snatch him up and run! He came back to our hospital after the 2 longest days of our lives. Lukas is now a happy and healthy 6 week old and even though his birth was hard emotionally it was all worth it and still wouldn't mind one more baby just have to convince my partner.......

I had my daughter on the 24th of May weighing 9lb 5 oz. She was my second baby. I had a really bad time when my son was born so I was terrified this time but everyone said It's always easier with your second. They also told me she wouldn't be bigger than my son who was 8lb 12oz. They were wrong on both counts. I went to the hospital on my due date to be given a sweep to get things going but the doctor said I wasn't even ready for that. He told me there was no way I'd go naturally. He said I could be sectioned if I wanted to bacause of everything that happened the first time but although it sounded easier with a two year old at home I couldn't be out of action for that long so I was booked in to be induced on Saturday. I was given the gel twice and on Sunday morning I started having strong contractions every three minutes. The doctor examined me and said that although I was having agonizing pains that my cervix wasn't even softening. It was the worst news I ever imagined. I thought that I was doing well and to be told nothing was happening I just lost it. I told them I wanted a section and that they had to get her out of me. I was totally freaking out. They brought in the head doctor who tried to examine me b ut because i was so upset he couldn't. He told me he was going to take me to a labour room and give me an epidural so he could examine me properly. At 4pm I was given the epidural which worked great straight away. The doctor came up and broke my waters and left me three cm dilated. I continued on like that for another two hours til the epidural started to wear off. When I got a top up it didn't work as well. so I was only getting patchy pain relief. I was in agony. The mid wife I had was lovely and just tried to keep me calm. By nine I was ten cms but they said that she was too high and that if she didn't drop down within twenty mins they'd have to do a section but by then I'd been throughh so much I didn't want a section so I started trying to push even though I had no urge to. Luckily it worked and 45 mins later she was born. I had a small tear but they said 2 or 3 stitches would be enough. I rang my mum and told her we were both fine. My husband looked so relieved it was over but a few minutes later they told me I had to go to theatre cause my placenta hadn't come away and the had broke. I remember seeing my poor husband holding our baby and looking terrified. I knew how he was feeling. I was taken to theatre and given loads more drugs but was awake and could see everything they were doing. I was shaking and vomiting the whole time. When I came out of theatre I couldn't even hold my baby cause I was shaking so violently and was being really sick. I had a fever so after my husband went home at 3 in the morning they took my baby away. I didn't get to see her again til sunday but had to call the midwives any time she needed anything cause I wasn't strong enough to pick her up and I wasn't allowed out of bed. I don't regret havin her for a second but after two horrible births I am very glad I have a Healthy son and daughter cause there is no way I'm wanting to go through all that again.

Monday night May 4th around 8 pm I started having braxton hicks pretty consistently about every 5-10 minutes I would say. This was nothing new initially, as I had BH from about 20 weeks on with both of my pregnancies. These continued for a couple of hours, though. As my hubby and I were getting ready for bed I told him he better have whatever he wanted at the hospital in the bag because I had a feeling the big event was going to happen in the next 24 hours. After he packed some items we went to bed. About 1:30 am I woke to contractions that were much more intense, but still entirely bearable. I got up, ate a little and walked around. Crawled back into bed around 2:30...contractions were still around 5 mins apart. About then my hubby and I thought we should go into the hospital. Called my dad to come over and take care of our 18 month old son.

Got to the hospital and checked in. Nurse checked me after I got settled and I was only 1 1/2 cm which is what I had been when I was checked a week prior. They had me walk the halls and checked me a few hours later only to find that I hadn't progressed at all. Called my doc and they sent me home. We were really bummed, but in hindsight I am very glad that I got to labor in the comfort of my own home! Tried to go back to sleep when we got home (around 6 am)...got a very broken hour of sleep. Got up so my hubby could sleep and I could watch our son. Continued to contract and we went to my regular OB appt at 8:45 that morning. By then I was around 3 cm, but contractions were still very bearable. Doc thought he would see me by midnight that night. Sent me home to "rest"! :)

I took another nap and then my hubby got me up around noon for some lunch. I sat at the table on an exercise ball eating my sandwich and it was then that the real contractions set in! I labored through lunch and managed to eat and then decided to soak in the tub. Took a long bath and by the end of that I was bleeding quite a bit and contractions were quite unbearable. It was 2:30 pm by that point. We decided to go back into the hospital and did so after we called my poor dad out of a meeting to come take care of the firstborn again!

Got to the hospital about 3 pm (almost 12 hours exactly from when we were there the night before). They checked me this time and I was 4 cm and my bag of waters was bulging. They had me walk the halls again...as long as I was walking I was contracting every 2-3 minutes. Walked for about 30 mins then took a break. Rested and had a hep-lock placed and baby's heartrate checked. Got up to walk again, but about 10 mins into that I had to throw up. I took a break again and the nurse asked if I would like to soak in the tub...YES! Thought that would feel great, but then my doctor walked in to check me...it was about 4:45. To everyone's surprise I was 8 cm...he broke my water and I was immediately 9 cm. The nurse suggested I stand up and slow dance with my hubby to help the baby to come down and continue to dilate. I did that through about 3 or 4 contractions and then I HAD to push! I got back into bed and pushing began. About 25 mins later Logan Samuel was born as healthy as could be! I had no tears and he began nursing about 5 mins after birth. He was 8 lbs 2 oz and 20 inches long! One of the 2 best days of my life! :)

I am 20 years old with a beautiful son who is now 7 weeks old. I was in labour for 4hrs and 58 minutes. Only once did I say that I wanted pain killers but that was when the midwife said I could push, it was too late and 8 minutes later my son Frank was born. I decided from the start not to make a birth plan because my pregnancy went badly. I went into labour three times all together. Once when I was 23 weeks, once at 32 weeks and finally gave brith at 38 weeks. The first time it was stopped with tablets and the second time it stopped itself. So I didn't think I had much choice with this baby he was the boss. I just listened to my body and it was wonderful. I was only in real pain just as the midwife said that I could push. I told her I was going home and she said it was a bit late as the baby's head was almost out. I pushed for only 8 minutes and he was out at 8.58pm. My boyfriend loved the whole experince as well and said he cannot wait for the second one. Neither can I. I have a new respect for what my body can do! It's amazing

I was talking to my husband about the birth of our little girl last night and he told me that the cord was actually around the babies neck when she came out. I didn't realise that at the time. Apparently that was why I had to try hold on just after the head came out. I'm so glad she was okay though. :)

All these stories are so fantastic. Glad to see some people have had a long labour just like me. I'm 25 years old. My first born came on the 8th of May and he was born 2 days after his due date. I had been having braxton hicks for about a week and a half and they were annoying me so much cause they seemed to get going then stop. The night before I went into labour I had a niggling feeling that something might happen especially when I got the longest episode of braxton hicks. Awoken from sleep at 3am with very irrregular contractions and unfortunately was unable to get back to sleep. I actually had an appointment with my doctors that morning so we went in just to check everything was ok. I was 1cm so was very happy to go home and relax a little (as much as I could). Contractions intensified at around 2.30 that afternoon and started to become more painful. We ended up heading into hospital around 8.00 that evening. Contractions still painful but was able to handle them without pain relief. They checked how dilated I was at midnight and was found to be only 3cm. This was so disheartening because I thought I would have been furthur on then that. They ended up giving me Pethidine and Phenergan to help me to sleep a little bit so I could get some rest. Was able to have about 1 1/2- 2 hours broken sleep before being awoken with even worse contractions. Not long after this I started with gas- didn't really work a lot but was a damn good distraction. Found to be 5cm at 8.30 that morning so was glad I was actually getting somewhere. At 11.00 I was 8cm so they decided to break my waters, which intensified the pain so much that I was begging for more pain relief but it was too late. I started pushing at 12.40. Was doing really well then bub's head popped out followed straight away by the rest of him causing me to get a 3a tear (ouch). He was born at 1.16pm weighing 6 pound 12 ounzes after 34 hours in labour. I never had regular contractions despite everyone saying they would go regular. I was so relieved that everything went fairly smoothly and bub was healthy

We just had our second son on May 21 at 4:30a.m. I went into the Dr on Wed morning with a Crystal clear discharge. It turned out to be embryonic fluid. She sent me to the hospital. Since I had noticed this fluid on Tues. They induced me with a pill that is used for stomach problems. A side effect of this pill is it causes labor. I took 1/4 of a pill at 6:00 p.m., then 1/2 at 10:00p.m. then 1/2 at 2:00 a.m. My husband had gone home to take care of our soon to be two year old at 9:00p.m. At 3:30 I felt a snap in my belly, much like a huge rubber band snapping. I went from no contractions to full labor contractions every minute in 10 min. I called my hubby to get over to me in the hospital (with a "new concept that the midwife controls the birthing room. The Dr. is there to just in case of problems) I went into the birthing room at 3:45. I was at 3cm. **I told the Midwife I wanted an epidural. They were getting me ready for the infusion that is given to one before the epidural. She checked me again, it was about 4:00a.m. at this time I was at 7c.m. The midwife told me it's too late for the epi. The baby will be here before we can get the needle in. I freaked out, I truly believed she was lying to me. There was no way My baby was going to be here in 1 hour! I really thought it was a midwives conspiracy against me. They were making me have my baby naturally against my will. **Just a note I had severe bronchitis and from the coughing I broke a rib. On top of that I suffer from chronic pain in my tail bone from a bad fall from a horse in which I landed upon it and had a spinal concussion. This is why I "needed" an Epi. My hubby was at home still waiting for my girlfriend who was going to take care of my little 22 month old. Then it happened. I pushed and pushed. Midwife # 1 kept b*tching at me for pushing her with my foot. Um excuse me for not concentrating on touching her with my foot while I'm trying to figure out how I'm pushing wrong and trying to deal with the pain that is shooting through my rib, tail bone and female parts right at this moment...How frustrating that scenario was let me tell you. Then the midwife kept telling me I'm pushing wrong? Huh pushing wrong...how can you push wrong? I did figure out what they meant and started pushing right. I did not like the Dr. or midwife # 1! If midwife #2 hadn't have been there being so sweet, I would have let them have a piece of mind. Then everything ripped. I did/could not hold my composure. All the frustration, pain came out in my screams and then, our son was born. One hour after the contractions started. I would have never believed it to be possible. I then called my hubby who was just leaving our house, his new born son's cries greeted him on the telephone. He grabbed our other son and my girlfriend and came over to meet our new addition. He got there The Dr, was sewing some of the tears I did have some considerable bleeding. When they were done they wheeled me on a fresh bed with my new son into the adjacent birthing room where the family got to know each other. I have heard when one smells the baby within the first two hours it creates a lasting bond. I have seen it with my first son with my sister in law and her little girl (my niece). My son, hubby, and my good friend are bonded to the new addition Newton. It's wonderful, even though it wasn't at all what I expected.

My husband and I just had our first on May 30. She was 11 days early. Weighing in at 6lb 14oz and 49cm long.

I woke up at 5.00am and had to go to the toilet, that's when my waters broke but I thought I had wet myself cause it wasn't what I had expected it to be like. I had some pink discharge, thought nothing of it and went back to bed for about 45 mins. Was getting uncomfortable cause of back ache so I got up and went to the toilet again. The pink discharge was a bit heavier so I told my husband to get up cause I think that labour might start soon (not knowing it was already happening).

He got up and decided to have a shower to freshen up. While he was in the shower my contractions started full on at 5 mins apart (bear in mind we live at least 30 mins from the hospital I was delivering at), He was in the shower for at least 20mins and when he got out I was on the phone to the labour ward telling them that my waters had broke, my contractions were 5mins apart and that I was coming in. My husband went into panic mode. I didn't even have time to change out of my polar bear pyjamas and pink pig slippers.

Anyway we got into the car and by 10mins down the road my contractions were 4mins apart. By the time we were 1km away from the hospital they were 2mins apart. We pulled up outside the hospital and the contractions were 1min apart. By the time we got to the labour ward (which is 2 floors up) I was 7cm dilated. The midwife then went out to ring the doctor and by the time she came back in I was ready to push. So the only people in the room was myself, my husband (who ended up being a stirrup), the midwife (the other stirrup) and a nurse monitoring the baby's heartbeat during contractions. I only had about 6 or 7 puffs on the gas before I was ready to push so didn't get a chance to have any of those wonderful drugs.

Our darling daughter, Talia, entered the world at 8.10am, a beautiful and healthy baby, and the doctor showed up 10mins after she was born. I came out of it relatively unscathed. I had no tears and didn't need any interventions. The only thing I ended up having was a slight internal tear which the doctor wasn't too concerned with and a heamorrhoid. So I wasn't prepared for a natural labour but that's what I ended up getting but it wasn't as bad as what I had been told or thought.

We have settled in at home fairly well. The breastfeeding is going ok. She wakes up every 3hrs or so and sometimes sleeps for 4-5hrs during the night. I just hope that the next pregnancy and labour (though not sure on when yet) goes just as smoothly.

Hi. I am 28 yrs old, and our little girl - Freia was born on May 16th. Because I had Gestational Diabetes I was to be induced 2 weeks before my due date. They started with a membrane sweep on the 15th in the morning and I was sent home to await labour. At about 2 pm the contractions started getting regular, and at about 6 pm I called the hospital to say that we would come in for at check-up during the night. At 9 pm the contractions came 3-4 minutes apart and we started our journey of an hour to get to the hospital. When we came in the midwife examined me - and I hadn't opened more than 1 cm... since it was the end of the shift I was hooked up to a monitor to messure my contractions and the heartbeat of the baby. AFter 10 minutes my water broke and my contractions started getting a bit more painful than they had been before that. After 5 minutes all hell broke loose. The contractions started coming 40 sec apart and lasted for a minute and a half... hurting like hell. We had to wait another 10 minutes for the new shift to get started and they were the hardest 10 minutes ever... Fnally the new midwife came, and she examined me again - I had dialated 2 cm in 10 minutes - now 3 cm open I was moved to a new room and hooked up to the lifeline for the next 30 minutes - the gas (YES!!!). They called the doctor so that I could have my Epidural - he came within 5 minutes - boy was I ever happy to see him. It only took one attempt to put it in, and 20 minutes later I was in heaven. For the next half hour or so I didn't feel any pain all though I could feel her moving down towards the exit. About 2 hours after my water broke I was fully dialated and after 4 contractions the head was out, and the rest followed in a gush of water in the next contraction. She scored 10 out of 10 after the first minute (Apgar score) so we were really pleased. All in all it took about 2½ hours from the water broke untill she was out. I don't think I would have survived if not for the Epi. 10 cm in just 1½ hours... I can tell you it was painfull... but after she was out it was all forgotten.

Hello, I'm 20 years old and My baby girl was born on the 24th. I was determined from the moment I found out I was pregnant to have a natural birth. My husband and I attended Bradley Method birth classes and became pretty educated and what was about to happen.

I woke up the morning of the 24th at 8 am and by 9:00 am I already noticed my contractions to have a steady rythm only being about 4 minutes apart. We called our midwife and she tod us to meet her at the birthing center in 30 minutes. Needless to say we beat her there (thanks to my husband). We waited outside the birthcenter and walked for a bit, stopping now and then as I had my contractions. After we met with the midwife we went to our room and I laboured for a few hours. My midwife suggested that we go for a walk. I was scared a little because I couldn't stand for my contractions, I had to be bent over, but I did go and we walked around the building next to the center. When we got to the back of the building, I saw two homeless guys sleeping on a bench and all I could think was "OH God... PLEASE don't let me have a contraction in front of the hobos!"

Fortunately I made it passed them and had a contraction infront of a vary confused grocery store clerk who was going back to his car. He stood there watching and didn't know whether to come check it out, leave or call 911. We finally made it back to the birthcenter where we were greated by my mom and sister. As soon as I got back to our room, my contractions went nuts.

Finally, at 7 pm, my husband and I got into the birth tub and worked the last half cm out of the way. When it was time to push, my husband moved from behind me to infront of me and applied counter pressure. After 17 minutes of pushing, Shaylee was born. She weighed 7 lbs 6 1/2 oz and was 19 3/4 inches long.

The best part: Dad delivered her, with the midwife only interfereing to slip the cord from around her neck.

The whole experience was amazing and something I will most deffinately do with all of our future children.

Hi im 20 years old and was due on the 4th may with my second child, i hadnt expected to go to my due date as i was 3 weeks early with my first.

My son Alisdair was born on the 16th May at 10.46am, weighing 8lbs8oz, 55cm long and a head circumfrence of 37cm.

The last 2 weeks i was in and out of hospital in slow labour that started up and stopped as quick as it started, i was gtting really fed up, i had a number of membrane sweeps at which i was already 3cm, so when they said they was going to induce me on the 16th i was over the moon.

On the night of the 15th i was having really bad contractions and thought i was starting on my own, went to the hospital and i was 5cm but as quick as it come it went again, but later when i had an internal once all contractions stopped i was between 3-4cm

they decided to keep me in any way, as i was due to be induced in the morning I went through the night with no pains, on the morning i waited to be induced at 8.00, they were so busy this time past.

I no i shouldn't but i went for cigarette at around 9.15, while i was outside i had this niggling feeling that told me to go back inside, i attempted to go to the toilet on the way back, but just couldn't go, walking back to my labour room, the pain was hurrendous, it had me doubled, my partner helped me to my bed. Then another pain, the midwife came in and new i had started myself, i was 7cm, i had gas and air, not that this helped much. For some reason the midwife asked me to turn on to my side, as i did i felt i had to push, i think she new that was going to happen, when i turned back i was 9cm and he was crowning, several pushes later and i still didnt have him out the midwife called the doctor as when my contractions stopped i was taking him back at speed which could of hurt him, when she said im going to hurt him and the doctor will intefere if i dnt get him out on the next push, i new that i had to give my biggest push, as the doctor arrived i had him on me, i was crying that i could acctually remember what happened during this labour as i was out of it with my first due to pethidene.

Because i was only in full active labour for 1hr16mins i was then on a drip for the best part of the day to stop me hemoraging.

Although Alisdair was bigger at birth than my first i would say his labour was easier than my 6lb6oz 1st born.

I am 27 years old and had my second baby, she was 35wks when she decided to break my waters (which was a suprise to us as my first baby was 42weeks and had to be induced, which turned into a c-section, so no 'normal' labour happenings happend and i thought i had wet myself for a minute). Went into hospital and nothing seemed to happen and wasn't even dialated at all. I was then admitted to womens hospital and had my vitals and baby checked all the time. I wasn't able to go be induced for the next few days because I was high risk of being a section and I wanted to try for a normal birth, and everyday for the next two days the dr's were too busy with other mums coming in birthing. Then I had to wait for a free bed in the neonatal unit in case my baby needed to go in there - which worried me a great deal. Finally when I turned 36 weeks I was induced with oxytocin which started at 10am and finally at 3pm I started contracting unfortunately at 9am I was only at 3cm and because of my previous c-section, it was now to dangerous to continue because the dr was afraid that the baby would rupture my previous c-section scare as the head was pushing down where my scar was but I was not dialated enough, and not progressing fast enough to be a safe birth. I was then rushed in to theatre for a c-section. Then my baby girl was born 4 weeks early at a very healthy weight of 7pounds 4ounces and 50cm long. Unfortunately a week later I caught an infection in my c-section scare which turned really ugly but thats another story. (and if anyone is reading this and opting for a c-section it is very rare that this happens so please don't worry.)

I am 29 years old and gave birth to a little girl we named Chloe Lynn on May 2nd. I should say that my due date wasn't until the 25th so I was quite surprised to go into labor so early.

I should start by saying that I had a normal pregnancy, no complications. I actually went to the doctor a day before my daughter was born and was told I was 2cm dilated and 50% effaced, he sent me home and told me to come back in a week. Not even 24 hours later, my husband and I were in Burlington Coat Factory and I bent down to pick something up and my water popped. I was scared to death, thank god my husband was with me. I knew that she was going to come fast because with my first pregnancy I had my son within 4 hours after they broke my water. We got to the hospital by 1:30 and the nurses were trying to put me in triage to see if it was actually my water that broke because alot of women think there water broke and it really didn't. I told them I was for sure and that I knew she was going to come fast. They were just taking there time and all I keep saying was " I am serious, she is going to come fast". By the time they put me in a room and checked me I was already 6cm and the pain was really starting to kick in. I knew I wanted an epidural, I kept asking them to call anestesia. By the time they came to put in the epidural I was having contractions every 2 mins and I couldn't sit still to actually get the epidural. It took 30 min to get it in place and I was so happy because they kept saying they weren't sure if I was going to be able to have it because I was moving along to fast. Well, the next time they checked me I was 9cm and 100% effaced. We were just waiting for the doctor to arrive to start pushing. Weel Chloe was born at 3:26 pm, just about 2 hours after I arrived at the hospital. She was 6lbs and 17 inches. Very healthy for being born early. They did do some tests on her for blood sugar and a car seat test because they were considering her a preemie. She did have a slight case of jaundice but not severe and we are very blessed to now have a beautiful 3 year old son and a beautiful daughter.

I am 26 years old and my husband and I just had our first baby May 10th. I was determined to have a natural birth (no drugs), and because I had braxton-hicks contractions for a few months prior to delivery, I thought my labor would go pretty quickly. I was wrong! I went into labor May 9th at about 10:30 pm. We went into the hospital at 1:30 am, but they sent us home because I was only dialate to a 1 (which I had been for a week already). When we got home, the contractions picked up a lot in intensity, and I began to throw up. I tried to rest, which was impossible because of the frequency and intensity of the contractions. We went back to the hospital at 5:00 am, and I was still only at a 2, but they admitted me to a L & D room. They offered an epidural and I declined. I was still able to handle the contractions on my own. At 8:45 am I still wasn't progressing (in spite of intense contractions) so they broke my water. The contractions intensified again, but still nothing. They began pitocin, but at 11:30 I was still only at a 3 (after over 12 hours of labor!) I hadn't had anything to eat since lunch on the previous day, and no sleep, and I was throwing up again and shaking uncontrollably. When they told me I was only at a 3 I got very discouraged...I knew I couldn't go on without help. I agreed to the epidural, and in retrospect I am glad I did. It allowed me to rest a little which helped me to progress. Between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm I went from a 5 to a 9! Almost time to push! I began pushing around 4:30 and I LOVED this stage! They brought in a mirror so I could watch my son's head emerge. I only pushed for an hour before Simon was born at 5:35 pm! Looking back, I wish I had had a more open mind towards medication. My labor was much longer and harder than I expected, and making the decision to have an epidural was very emotional because I felt like a failure, when in reality I really needed it and it made the birth experience so much more enjoyable. I have no regrets now, and an happy with how everything turned out! I couldn't love my son more, and I will always have good memories of the day he was born.

I am 20 years old and living with my boyfriend. We just shared the experience of the birth of our son. We decided to have a home birth with a midwife and it was amazing! In the last month of my pregnancy i started having some doubts because my mom hemoraged after having me and i was getting a lot of braxton hicks which were painful. I just thought " i must be crazy if the braxton hicks hurt how can i go through labor with out drugs and at my house" but i stuck to it and i am so glad! I labored in the bath tub although i did not deliver in the tub because my bathroom is very small. and it worked out . I went into labor at 12:30, i was at 5 cm by 1pm and was complete at about 7:15 and ready to push!! Unfortunately my midwife was at another birth which had never happened to her before! I knew I was not going to have the women i had trusted to deliver my baby... and was very nervous. I had a lot of trouble and pushed for an hour and a half. My son was born at 8:48pm. But once his head emerged my midwife realized the cord was around his neck. Without a second contraction and pushing she twisted his body and pulled him out, removed the cord from his neck and layed his body on me. There was no cry .. they had to stimulate him and as they did this my mother in law and mom urged my boyfriend to talk to the baby. He opened his eyes at the sound of his voice. During my pregnancy my boyfriend talked to my belly and always rubbed my belly. The baby reacted instantly. He is 2 weeks and 3 days old now and a perfect healthy happy baby. The home birth was amazing and i would do it all over again. The water was so relaxing and I was calmer than i thought i would be. Dont get me wrong it was painful and hurt imensely but having complete control over my body with no drugs was so worth it! I did miss my midwife but the woman who came in her place was amazing and her assistant was perfect adn helped calm me and reminded me why i was in so much pain . A beautiful baby boy now lays in my arms and if i had to do it all over i wouldnt change a thing!!! everything happend for a reason and i couldnt be happier.. i will definately recommend a home birth and i will be doing a home birth when we decide to have more children..
