changing due dates and maybe twins????

The doctors at the hospital and my GP keep changing my due date, first off from my GP by my last period and the fundal height I am due 21st May, but when I had an ultrasound I was changed to 8th June. Now again I have been put back to 21st may by my Doctor. It's getting annoying, Who do I go by? I am almost convinced my doctor is correct but that would mean I have a small baby. I have this small fear that maybe I do have twins in there but they didn't see it on two ultrasounds. I really don't know how to tell other than that. Would that explain a 3 week difference between the size of the baby and the size of my belly??

I would talk to your OB/Gyn. doctor. At 25-27 weeks I would assume with two ultrasounds also that if you were having twins, SOMEONE would know. Either you would be feeling two babies or they would have measured your belly and realized something was up. In the office I worked at, twin moms would typically be 4-6 weeks ahead of a singleton by this point. Once the doctor starts vaginally examining you 35-37 weeks they should be able to give you a better estimation. I wouldn't worry too much. Baby will come or doctor will make baby come. =)  We have a daughter who will be 2 on June 25 and have #2 coming Mother's Day or sooner. Trust me!  Good Luck to you in either May or June. Such a great time to have a baby!

I'd say it doesn't really matter when you're due - baby will come when baby is ready. Fundal height isn't a good measurement for due date as babies grow at different rates and baby's position in the womb can affect the measurements. Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy! Trust that your body will know when it is time to go into labor - whether it's in May or June, and resist the temptation to move things along with medical interventions like an induction. Some babies need to gestate longer and the normal range for a pregnancy is 38-42 weeks, which means going over your "due date" isn't really indicative of a problem or a reason to start trying to get labor to start.

I doubt you have another baby that hasn't been seen by 2 ultrasounds. You'd probably start measuring really big, too. Just relax and don't worry. Do you happen to know when you ovulated? Or the concept date? Those are more accurate than the last period date. How long are your cycles? Keep in mind that due dates in the US are calculated by using a chart based on a 28 day cycle, so that if your cycles are longer then your due date would be later - OBs don't typically account for that.

I'd recommend reading the book The Thinking Women's Guide to a Better Birth. I hear Pushed is good as well.

Good luck!
