I started getting a clogged milk duct/gland yesterday. It got a little better after taking a hot shower and massaging it, but its still swollen today. Baby is eating a little from it but gets frustrated because the flow is slow. Any ideas on how to unclogg?

Try lying over top of your baby letting gravity help unclog the duct. It sounds weird but it works for me most of the time.

I've had this a couple of times. I found that massaging the area worked the best. I once consulted a lactation consultant about it and she said that the warm compresses and massages were the best thing. She also said that it's important to do these things as a clogged milk duct that isn't unclogged can become infected - which of course becomes a whole new can of worms! Best of luck!

I used a heating pad on my breast anytime I was sitting and nursed my son a lot on that side to get rid of it! Good luck!

I too have suffered from this and found that pumping from that side for a couple of days along with massaging it eventually unclogged it.

I've struggled with this, too! Try using a warm compress before and during nursing on that side, and massage down toward the baby's mouth as they nurse. Heat and massage have seemed to work well for me. If you have a pump you can also pump while massaging the plugged area downward towards the nipple to try to unclog it. Hand expressing in a hot shower has also worked well for me. Good luck!
