Hello all...my daughter is now 4 1/2 months old and is a normally calm baby. Ever since she was born, when we would travel in the car at night she cries and doesn't stop until she either falls asleep or we reach our destination. We have tried driving with a light on, sitting next to her and playing with her. giving her her pacifier, feeding her before we travel (and waiting for gas to come up) and putting a doll that lights up in front of her. She is fine during the day in the car, it only happens at night. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do? I welcome any suggestions!

Our son hated the baby capsule 2.... made ANY trip in the car a nightmare....We also put him into a convertable carseat which made a huge difference.... He still protests at going in it but now its only a grizzle till we get moving.... However anything over 20mins and he starts again.... Aiden has silent reflux and the scrunched up position was not good on his wee stomach... I think he also may get carsick... face him forward on long journeys and he is fine happy and giggles even....

That is a great suggestion! I have a 5 month old little girl and she HATES riding in the car it doesnt matter the time or if someone is in the backseat playing with her she just cries! But maybe if we get her a convertable seat she will do better!

a convertable seat is an upright seat like for toddlers but it sits rear facing so you can put smaller babies in them . the one we got is an evenflo from target that is like 5lbs to 45lbs weight limit. after he is big enough you can turn it to front facing so its a great investment cause it will last a long time.

My son used to hate the car, cried bloody murder. Even if we were just going out to the store and back. Last month, we went on a 5-hour trip to visit my brother and my husband and I were dreading it. We even left after my son went to sleep, knowing he'd sleep the whole way. It worked, but driving through the night was so tough for us. We recently got a mirror for him that sings and plays music via remote, and let me tell you, it worked! He doesn't love going for car rides by any means, but he merely tollerates them now. We went for a 3-hour trip over the weekend and he was great, cried for only 10 minutes.

What exactly is a convertable seat? Because my daughter is also about 4 1/2 months and every time we get in the car she usually cries the hole way until we reach our destination. It makes me not want to ever leave the house with her.

That's one thing we haven't tried and she is trying to sit up a lot more. Thanks for the suggestion Kimberly!

We had a similar problem with our son. but it was pretty much every time we got in the car. and come to find out he just HATED the infant seat. we went and got a convertable seat. its still rear facing but it sits up and it will last till he is like 40 lbs. now the only time he cries in the car is if he is hungry. it has made our life so much better. hopefully that helps
