Hi, My daughter is coming up for 9 months and I'm hoping for inspiration on new finger foods to try on her.
She currently has wholemeal bread with either butter or cream cheese and loves it and I tried homemade fish nuggets tonight but that wasn't greeted with quite so much excitement.... She's had melon and likes it but it's so hard for her to keep a grip on.
Any fun ideas ? I don't mind a mess - bring it on infact : )

Thanks !

My son is 9 months and pretty much eats what we eat now. He has also insisted on feeding himself with his spoon/fork. Messy, messy, messy.

Bananas are great. You can either cut them up into bite size pieces or let them hold a quarter or half of one. I, also, do the slice of bread thing, but I have not tried putting anything on them. She also likes those gerber puffs, and they are great for on the go and when you are out to eat and they want what you have. I am getting ready to try corn on the cob since I saw another kid in her playgroup enjoying that. You cook a bunch and then refrigerate them and I am sure it is great for teething too!

I pretty much have feed my little guy almost everything above, he loves food and I haven't yet found anything he doesn't like. The other day my husband was eating cut up tomatoes as a snack. I do not like tomoatoes, but I took a slice and cut up small pieces of the soft inner part of the tomato for him and he really liked it. Kind of a quick and easy vegetable you could try, without the boiling and cooking.

my son eats anything we put in front of him. as long as you can squish it with your fingers she shouldnt have trouble chewing it. Mattius is 9 months old and eats:
-well cooked veggies (I buy them frozen so they are always on hand plus its cheaper in off seasons)
-potatoes and squash cut into sticks or bite sized pieces, boiled or baked
-soft fruits (peaches, berries, grapes cut in half or quarters, banana, kiwi, cooked pears and apples)
-fruit cups (peaches and pears packed in water, if they are packed in syrup I rinse them off to get excess sugar off of the fruit)
-bite sized meat well cooked (chicken, pork, ground beef)
-cheerios,shredded wheat, rice crispies
-toddler snacks (gerber puffs, gerber graduates lil crunchies, baby cookies)
-toast, cheese bread, crackers, pita bread, pasta
-cheese cut up small or grated.

you can pretty much feed them anything but honey, citrus, and nuts. just make sure it is soft enough for them to chew or gum. and remember to wait a couple days if you introduce something new encase they have a reaction.

My 9 month old feeds himself so everything we give him is either fry shaped so he can hold it in his fist and gnaw on it or is cut into small pieces he can pick up between his thumb and forefinger :) He eats: cheese, bananas, pears, steamed carrots, celery (especially loves it with hummus), avocado, salmon, chicken, beef (prefers ground beef but if the steak is super tender he likes it), green beans, corn, peas, broccoli, yogurt (I'm always grateful when he decides I can help him eat this one--it can be very messy!!), grapes, whole wheat pasta (he loves it with sauces--homemade veggie/tomato sauce is his favorite but he also enjoys it in a homemade cheese sauce), pita bread, whole grain bread, whole wheat crackers, organic cheese bunnies (like goldfish only tastes so much better--no weird chemical taste :p), barley teething biscuits, scrambled eggs, tortillas, bell peppers, sweet potaotes, squash. he tried lettuce from my salad as well but had a hard time chewing it so we'll hold off and trying that one again until he has more teeth :D

My daughter is on finger foods as well...I often give her cheese - either grated or sliced, a whole range of different fruits, cooked pasta, bread and butter .
For those slippery fruits, we have a mesh bag with a handle that we put those foods into so she can eat them without loosing it :)

I have given my nine month old everything from pizza to pasta. Just as long as it is cut up small. My favorite so far was a cut up banana! It was so much fun, he had it everywhere! His favorite is pasta, it is easy for him to grab and it is soft enough for him to gum. (he has one and half teeth). Have fun!

My daughter has just 9 mths and doing well on solids and finger food. She has toast, scambled egg (that she eats with her fingers!!), cheesy mashed potato, sliced fruit (peach, mango, banana, cooked apples and pear)...found I had to crush up a biscuit and toss the fruit in that to make it a little easier for her to hold!!, pasta, Arrowroot biscuits (not sure if you get these in the USA??), grated cheese, sliced cucumber (skin off) custard and baby yoghurt (very messy!!!!)...that's about it off the top of my head...if anyone else has any other ideas..I'd like to know too..thanks!! :)

I gave my little girl fresh and frozen fruits. We have a munchkin feeder... you can put frozen or fresh fruit in them and let them hold on to it and eat. My little girl loves it. But then again I've let her have cupcakes and overcooked carrots and pudding. I am very lucky in teh fact that I don't have a picky eater at all

My 9 month old LOVES spaghetti. I would never in a million years guessed she could have it but she does about once a week. Just cook spaghetti, add a bit of sauce and then chop it up real fine. It makes a mess but she likes it. I also try small bits of cheese, puffs, banana. Hope that helps!

My son likes rice, overcooked noodles, small cereals. That's about it so far.
Also slippery but good are avocado or banana, well cooked and chopped carrots or sweet potatoes, cooked squash or zucchini (you can even grate it). If you don't mind a mess, they can eat hummus or mashed potatoes with their hands. Shredded cheese. I'm just trying to brainstorm as to what I fed my older daughter when she was little. She had way more teeth than he does, but my Dr. said that teeth don't really matter because they mash with their back gums either way. She liked diced up veggie burgers and this stuff called Veggie Booty or Pirates Bootie. (not sure where you live if thats avail. Its sold near the chips/pretzels and are like puffs rolled in veggies or cheese and they melt in your mouth when you eat them) Hope that helps!
