my advice is to make sure HE is ready and that you are not just thinking that because such a body has done it,you should follow suit,,,if you try before he shows clear signs he is ready , you will be at it for MONTHS,leading to possible frustration on both sides and doing more harm than good to the whole process,,my son is 3 1/2 , i waited and waited for him to dis-agree with having a nappy put on,( he was a week shy of turning 3 ) when he did , it took two days , 3 peepee accidents on the floor and bingo , job done, he was dry day and at night in a week .. As soon as he turned 2,i got alot of people asking when i was going to train him,,they scoffed when i said probably not until hes 3 ,, but they are the ones that where still having accidents with their little ones 6months down the line of training at 2 .. and YES I KNOW ALL CHILDREN DEVELOPE DIFFERENTLY..I have 3 children , following this method, the girl took the longest to be dry day and night which was 2weeks before we were accident free..!! good luck .. x

It's kind of surprising reading through these posts and hearing that most moms are "surprised" their just turned 2 year old isn't potty trained. Most children aren't until age 3, especially boys. My son is a Nov. 2009 baby and is not potty trained. I wish he was, but I also know he is not quite ready. He doesn't tell me when he needs to go and he still has really wet poops, more wet poops then hard stools. I did buy him regular underwear as to not go the trainer diaper route and I tried putting them on him for one day and within an half hour he peed through 3 pairs. He will pee in the potty if I put him on it, but as I said, he doesn't ask. My goal is to try and potty train him in March and I hope he is ready by then.

So I thought I tried everything to get my son to poop on the potty until his preschool teacher suggested the book Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi. Yes, I was very reluctant to try this book however it was a gift from his teacher and I gave it a try. I only read the book to my son while he was on the potty. He was only allowed to look through the book while on the potty. Finally he eliminated in the potty and he was rewarded with a sticker chart. He was able to place a sticker every time he eliminated and when he filled the chart he was treated to ice cream or a new book. Everybody has a different method and every child is different, I hope this helps :)

My daugher will be 3 in October. She is potty trained when it comes to pee but REFUSES to poop on the potty. She'll ask for a diaper when she needs to go. I am at a loss as to how to get her go on the toilet. Suggestions are welcome but I feel like I've tried everything!

My son turned 3 on May 10th and has been pull-up free for a while at home, and just recently outside of our home in the last couple months. He didn't realize there were restrooms at stores. Lol. I actually took my son to look at waterfalls with a friend all morning/afternoon a few days ago and he did fabulous! My son tells me, "the toilet is hungry" so he likes to "feed" it. It's kind of disgusting that he says that, but whatever works! :) I'm just happy to not have to buy pull-ups/diapers anymore! :):):)

My daughter turns 3 in October and she has been potty trained since about 2.5 years of age. I am a mother of 4, and each child is different. It's not a bad thing you child is potty trained at a young age... saves you costs in nappies :)

My daughter is fully potty trained, born May 5, 2009. However, she has yet to fully grasp how to wipe well or what direction.

Response to Jennifer Benjamin - posted on 06/29/201. My daughter was the same. She would scream at the idea of sitting on her potty - she was terrified. So my mom bought a sesame street potty training poster with stickers. We put it at her level on the bathroom door and I explained that after she went potty she could pick a sticker and stick it on the poster. This peaked her interest. But she was still refusing to sit on the potty even though she didn't like to pee in her diaper. She could hold her pee for hours. So one day I had enough. I had heard that for fears it is best to go through them and for the child to see that in the end it was no big deal. So she was doing the need to peepee dance and I was asking if she wanted to get a sticker and use the potty and she was saying no and then crying. And so I picked her up and forcibly held her on the potty while trying to soothe her. She was screaming and wailing about. And after about 30 second she lost control and pee'd in the potty. And then she stopped crying and looked with amazement at her peepee in the potty. And took a sticker and put it on her poster. And that was it. It was super easy after that. In about 2 weeks her poster was full of stickers and she loved going potty.

September 23rd. She was fully potty trained shortly after her second birthday, regressed big time then got right back into the swing of it... and still has her moments. But there is no need to buy diapers or training pants anymore. She does wet the bed occasionally. She'll go a few weeks of being dry all night and then have a night or two with accidents. Over all, she is doing very well.

My daughter knows she is suppose to potty on the potty - but will not do it! Most mornings she wakes up dry and will not sit on her potty or the big toilet. She'll be 3 in August. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

My son will bw three nwxt month and he has been potty trained since his first birthday. I first gothim to go to the bathroom during the day and about three months later he was fully potty trained and now as a soon to be three year old he rarely wet himself at night. It so rare for him to wet himself he probably had an accident about 3 times since he's been trained!

my son just turned three. He refuses to do anything on the potty. He understands what needs to happen. If I put him in undies, he holds it as long as he can until he wets himself, even if I put him on the potty every 10 minutes (which I seriously do). He is stuck on patterns and routines. If I can just encourage him to do it once, I know he'll be in the clear, and he'll insist on going on the potty all the time. But for us, it's a matter of getting him to take that first step and going in the potty.

Pottytraining is not an easy task my son just turned three, and he is still being potty trained I think if he was at preschool it would have been easier, yet hey each child progresses at their own rate just don't force your child to b like some one else's child, through encoragement and praise work on helping your child when to use the potty.
Also don't put excessive clothes on the child ,I find when my child has on a pamper alone he goes to the potty but when i put on a pamper plus a pants,it seems to be too much work to take it off.
Also when he's playing he doesn'tlike to stop so I would have to ask do you want to go potty, theseare just some of the ways we can help our kids.

I think there shouldnt be as much pressure as there is for your child to be potty trained. I mean absoloutley they NEED to be potty trained but seriously I think everyone needs to relax Ive been getting so much pressure and its tough when youre a single mom and work 40 hr weeks...My daycare lady has pretty much goten my 3 yr old trained

Be patient!! And try not to get frustrated. I suggest following your child's lead. Don't force it it seems to take longer when u do.

My June 09 little girl is fully potty trained, days, nights, naps. I potty trained her at around 20 months. It just takes perseverance and good timing. But the good news is that eventually, they all get potty trained! You don't see many 10 year olds having accidents! ;)

Were half potty trained. DD needs to learn to go when were out shopping or at a friends. She goes at night and all day. I think if there were more small toilets her size she would b fine when were out but I think toys r us and the mall only have the small toilets.

My April 09 baby has been dry day and night for a year. Don't bother trying too get them dry by night as you can't teach them, it has to come on its own. But once you start potty training by day.... Do not stop for anything!! Plan a few days when you don't need too go out. My daughter wanted too wear big girl pants. She had 5 pee's on the floor, I took her pants off and changed them but she kept peeing everywhere. and on the very last little mess she made I said, no pants till you do you're pee and poo's on the potty. She looked at me, said Oh ok............. And went for a pee on the potty! Simple lol. My son was harder, but he only took 4 days. GOOD LUCK!!! xxxx

Hi Maria. Yeah the aim and shoot like daddy is noooooo fun for mommy. It goes all over except where it should. I did learn the hard way. I find this site to be so helpful myself and it's so nice to chat and see other mommies have the same problems. Have a nice day

Kirsty Yoxall have you explained to your little one about making a poop, that it is natural, we all (mommy, daddy, siblings) do it and that it is very very good. Sometimes they are just afraid. I put my little one on the potty in front of his favourite channel, explained to him and let him sit for as long as he wanted or until there was movement. Then i made a huge fuss of hoorays etc etc And to help it along a little bit - a teaspoon of prune juice

As soon as he becomes aware of he's need to pee - you'll know the signs. Moving from one foot to the other, holding hand over private area.

Just wait until she is ready and keep it fun. my son loves seeing his own pee. don't know why, but hey he goes. i got up here because he turned 3 last week and still will not poop in the potty. When he starts moving toward a corner I know to grab him. I will work with him and refuse to sweat it though. Everything else is going well with him so hopefully one day it will just click. Good luck.

My son was born 6/09.... He is getting there. I just started maybe 3 weeks ago. Today he did not have one "accident". See my main challenge with him is him purposely peeing on the floor because he thinks its funny. Out of the house he has not had an accident in like 2 weeks. But today he went in poty every time... so fingers crossed!
