How to start peeing

My daughter is 20 months old and we've been working on potty training. She knows when she has to go potty and she'll tell me, but I can't figure out how to teach her to start peeing so she just ends up sitting there and doing nothing, then she ends up peeing on herself a few minutes later. She doesn't have the attention span to sit on the potty for a few minutes until she goes. I know once I can get her to pee on command we'll have potty training down. Any suggestions?

she getting out of the bribery part, but it was a good starter. it wasnt used a lot, but the dancing and singing and cheering was the main thing used for her

I would make sure you tell her that she's peeing or pooping when you catch her going. I know it might sound silly, but if you catch her peeing in the tub or floor, make sure to tell her, "that's your peeing coming out of your vagina. You are letting your pee out!" We did that with both of my kids from birth and they both (boy and girl) would pee when placed on a potty by 15-18 months.

I sit my daughter on the potty and say, "let your pee out of your vagina" and she does. She's been doing that for several months and now she'll run to the bathroom and take off her diaper when she needs to go. We're actually on a mission this week to find underwear b/c, as you said, potty training is easy after you get them to pee on command (at least it was easy with my son).

When I started with my daughter I would give her M&M's to get her to sit long enough. One at a time. She also likes to suck on them so they last a long time. The book idea didn't work for her, she would throw it on the floor and want down (books worked for my son). M&M's though got her to sit and enjoy the candy long enough to pee. I don't condone bribery but in this instance it works and we don't give candy, sweets, soda, or anything else like that on a daily or weekly basis unless it's something special like a party or bribery. Once she peed we got really excited and made a big deal. After she got the hang that it was a good thing I cut back and then stopped the candy and now she knows to pee as soon as she sits on the potty.

With my oldest; I used the same thing that my husband does...reads a book. LOL He would sit there for the whole book and sometimes he would have to read 2 books or 1 long book.

well, i started out with the potty and it sang to her each time she peed. so you can try that out or if she is on the BIG potty do the pampers potty dance with her. they will get excited with it. BELIEVE ME i went through it with two kids already. or the pee song my gma did with all of us. "pee in the potty pee pee in the potty...mommy pee pee, daddy pee, baby pee HEY!! and dance. they get a kick out of it. OR each time they potty reward them with a treat like a cookie, or sticker or stamp or something. they are so proud when they get rewards and will continue to do it bc they know they will get it again
