Is 14 months old too early to start toilet training?

I thought about trying it for my 14 mo. old son. He is walking all over the place and he takes off his diaper when he's not wearing pants or shorts, so I take that as a good sign. Call me old fashioned, but that's what my mother would do. He may not understand what is going on yet, but he will.

i personally think it is... i have 5 toilet trained kids (2 of them in night pull ups aged 3&5) and 1 in nappies full time, and pregnant due in december, she 14 months old..and im pregnant with number 7 due in dec, which i will then have 2 in nappies full time... each child is different, toilet training for my 5 older kids was between 2-3 yrs of age... it was when they were ready.... my 3 and a half yr old has only just gotten out of day nappies about 2 months ago, my 5 1/2 yr old still wets the bed regularly

I started training my 14 month old son. I started because he was started showing signs and as a SAHM I have the time to do so. He pulls at dirty diapers and hates diaper changes. So if your kid is showing the signs than I don't see any reasons to start.

I think it is.......I asked this to the childhood nurse last week after seeing a post on here, and she confirmed what I already thought. At 14mths it's easy for them to pee in a potty, but they aren't old enough to comprehend the feeling associated with needing to go to the toilet or being able to hold on till they get to the toilet - which is what potty training is all about. anytime from 2-2 1/2 years is recommended. I personally am going to try with my daughter at around 18mths (as it will be summer here in Australia).
