After looking at all our options we are strongly considering doing a home birth or water birth at a birthing center. Is there anyone else out there who is considering these options or have already experienced this?

I was born at home, as well as my 4 sisters (but not the oldest my bro). I've always admired my mom for it, personally its not something I will be doing. She is the strongest person I know, having the kids and raising us kids.

I would love to try water birth, but they don't really offer it to military people. I would never do a home birth just because I don't want to clean up the mess hahaha ;) As long as you have a good midwife around you should do whatever makes you happy!

I have a relative who is in training to be a midwife.  She has had both of her children using a birthing tub for a water birth at her home in the living room.  I know she had no complaints about either experience.  She did mention that her son (who was home at the time of the second birth) did hear mom complaining loudly of discomfort.  She actually recommended it to me... and offered to come hold my hand if I chose that route.

I have not done any other research on it, but would be interested to know more.

I was interested in a water birth, but there's not a birthing center in my area. The group of certified nurse midwives that I see deliver at the local hospital, and are supportive of a natural labor and delivery, but if I want a water birth I have to provide my own pool. I had a completely natural labor and delivery with my first without a water birth and will probably just do the same again. A nice warm shower can take away a lot of pain too... I spent the last 4 hours of my labor in the shower. But, if a water birth were more available I think it's a great pain management option.
