Does anyone plan on using or have any experience with Little G Diapers? I am leaning towards using them, but want to make sure they are easier and less time consuming than cloth diapers (which completly gross me out).

you can also put pail pardner in your diaper pail... it's basically like a scented deodarizing powder for your diaper pail that works really well my favorite is made by a WAHM  her brand is Lil outlaws

http://liloutlaws.net/   ... her diaper detergent and rump solution also work wonders... and everything smells sooooo yummy... she has great customer service too

Which cloth diapers doyou prefer? How do you keeep them from smelling in between washes?

I like pocket diapers and am currently using BumGenius 3.0 OS (One-Size) and Fuzzibunz mediums. I like them both for different reasons, but really like pockets because you can add more inserts to them to make them more absorbant.  Right now with my 2 year old I have a hemp insert plus a microfiber and it works well.

I don't think they smell too much in between washings. Not as bad as wet or poopy disposables, at any rate. The wet ones I just dump into an old trash can that doesn't have a lid (I think a lid could help prevent smells, but it doesn't bother me). For the poopy ones, I dump the poop into the toilet (or spray into the toilet if it's soft and mushy) and then put into a trash can. Those tend to smell more since they've been poopy and are wet from the spraying, but it's not unbearable (to me, at least). I wash every 3 days or so.

I've heard you can sprinkle baking soda in the diaper bin to help with odor. I'd think activated charcoal too would be helpful (think of those lidded cat litter boxes...they all have a filter on top).

I think I might use gDiapers some - I got some for free off freecycle.  But I'm mostly planning on using cloth, specifically bumGenius.  We'll see how it goes.  I've used gDiapers before as a nanny and they're not too bad.  You definitely come in contact with poop - there's no way around it.  Disposables do too, even if you're lazy and don't dump in the toilet, there are days you get covered in it.  It's yucky, but still not as bad as dog barf!!  And that's when it's not even your own kid!  I was really grossed out by the idea of using cloth until I started researching all the new kinds of cloth diapers out there these days.  I still can't stomach the idea of cloth the way my parents did it, but some of the new types are actually pretty cool.

Hi Mommies...I am planning on using the gDiaper. But frankly, I'm just letting you know that I absolutely love this conversation. It's making this dreary Tuesday so much brighter. Thank you...

most moms know to dump the poop but are too lazy... lol your gonna get used to puke too... your baby is gonna throw up and youll clean it up and you will smell like spit up all the time... and then when they start eating... it gets worse... but it will build up... the spit up and the poop start off mild and build up your tolerance... if you are planning on breastfeeding the poop wont smell that bad... oh and breastmilk poop is water soluable so throwing it in the washer isnt a probem... they also make diaper sprayers that you attach to your toilet its like a mini shower and then you dont have to touch poop... you just spray it off... but if you think about it.... when you are potty training you are gonna have to dump the poop in the toilet if the kid poops their pants so I dont really see the diference when it comes to diapers and then you put the undies in the wash so... I dont think you will get off scott free without putting poop in your washer

Allison...

I have never laugherd so hard ...

Reality has not set in yet... I am printing your instructions now to hang on the wall. I have been under the impression the smell was as bad as it was going to get... As you can see I have never been around babies! So I really do apprecaite the instructions and honesty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the weakest stomach... if my dog throws up i call the neighbor and she cleans it. I tried to clean it on numerous occasions, but threw up the entire time, so I hope this reaction is better with my baby! I had no idea poop from diapers was suppose to be put in the toliet, is this common knowledge? I feel like there are all the things most moms dont tell new moms about. Is there anything else unknown and major I should know about??

Ok wait... so I am still going to be interacting with the poop? I am trying to avoid putting the poop in my washing machine. and what about the swishing? Which part am I swishing? I though you just took out the liner and put it in the trash? Are you guys telling me the outside part gets the mess on it too? or just the liner part?

Ok - breathe :-)  A couple things about poop:

1. You get used to it. No matter what diaper you use, poop *will* come out. It will leak up the back. It will leak out the legs. It will get on the baby and on the clothes and on you. I've heard it referred as a "Blow Out" and a "Poop-splosion." It's yucky, but after a while you just deal with it and joke about it. So, yes, you will be interacting with poop, on a sometimes hourly basis. Just comes with the territory.

2. Even when you use disposables, you are supposed to dump poop in the toilet - it is not supposed to go in the trash. Check any diaper package and it will tell you that (you can't dump breastfed poop, though, as it's too watery, and even early formula poop will be too mushy to dump). Landfills are not supposed to accept human waste - sewers are.

3. With cloth or gDiapers, you will wash the covers as they are fabric. You will wash the gDiaper "pants" only when they get poopy (around the legs, up the back, whatever) or if thoroughly soaked from pee. So you can probably use them several times before washing if you're lucky. With cloth, depending on what you'd use, you'd either always wash the diaper and the inserts (if applicable) or only wash the covers when they get poopy - the same as a gDiaper.

4. gDiapers inserts/absorbable thing is meant to be flushed. So you rip it open (check out their website) and dump into the toilet. BUT, you have to swish it around with the stick they give you to help it start to dissolve before you flush or it will clog things up.

*Everything* gets poop on it! Really!! Baby blankets, carseat, toys, hair....everything! It sounds bad, but honestly I think nature put a love of poop into our DNA - once it's *our* baby, it doesn't matter.

If you're uncomfortable with poop, get disposable gloves :-) That's what my husband did and I've certainly used them on occasion.

I use cloth, but I just got a few gDiapers from FreeCycle - they are too small for my toddler and will be too big for a while for the baby, but I'm certainly interested in trying them out. I don't think they are less time consuming that cloth, though, as you still have to wash the covers periodically, rinse the plastic liners, stuff the absorbant fillers into the diaper, and then take apart and dump into the toilet and swish before flushing. I use pocket diapers (cloth) and it's about the same amount of work...except I don't have to swish the toilet before flushing. So I guess I'd say they look to be about the same amount of work as cloth...you're just not washing the absorbable parts (for cloth, you wash the inserts as well as the covers).

G diapers are easy... I cloth diaper and use g dipes when I travel... but you still have to dump the poop so I mean it's not that different... Also I reccomend putting the liner in the trash... it'll clog your toilet soooo fast... but I mean you still have to touch the liner and everything... The only thing that makes them easier is the fact that you dont have to wash the liners... you still have to wash the covers though... but they sont really get messy...
