My 1yr old daughter's hair is taking forever to grow. Anyone having the same problem?

When my daughter was born she hardly had any hair, compaired to her big brother who had heaps of hair. She had been shaved with clippers only once & since then not much has grown. She only has long strands on the sides of her head, the top front & back. Her hair seems so stubborn. An old wives tale say babies with very fine hair should be shaved often so they can grow more fuller & thicker... How many moms out there have similar problems & believe in the old wives tale???

You can try rubbing the scalp, it will encourage blood flow which will encourage hair growth, there really isn't much to be done about it, it will grow in soon tho!

my little boy had pretty long hair when he was born, at 3 months it started to fall out (except for the top) so we gave him a little buzz cut so everything would be even. he's 9 month now and it still looks the same length as when we cut it like 5 months ago (maybe a teeny tiny bit longer). i'm sure as he develops and grows, the speed of his hair growth will increase too. im not too worried about it.

I've seen babies like this many times before. Rest assured, like lots of baby things, the way her hair looks now (0-1) most likely says nothing about what it will look like in a few months or even as an adult. She sounds just adorable! Some little ones don't start getting longer and thicker hair until they are three. I miss that fuzzy head on my son.

My poor gorgeous daughter is ALWAYS thought to be a boy! This elderly lady yesterday said "Oh, what a pretty baby boy! You must be a baby boy, but you are so pretty." HAHAHA!! She was wearing rainbow jammies, so not pink, but not boyish either!

Bald babies are beautiful. :)

my 13 month old baby girl was born with a full head of hair and a fringe that kept getting in her eyes! she has hair past her little shoulder blades now and it's long enough that i can braid it, we had a crazy hair theme for her 1st birthday! but having 3 little girls with very long thick hair was a bit much for me 2 cope with so i shaved my own head bald...1 less hairdo to worry about

my baby girl was born with a small amount of hair despite my bad heartburn! I kept wishing it would grow and quick, now eventually at 15 months its growing and i can finally put her hair up in little pigtails. She looks so cute with it up it was worth the wait. It does take a while but we have to be patient for it will come when its ready, just the same as our babies and due dates. x

My 14 mth old has the same issue, just about an inch long of fine blonde hair all over. My twins are now two and a half and have lots of hair, it just took a while. I'd say be patient and glad you don't have to put it up everyday.

Blondes are usually bald until they are about 2 i had peach fuzz until then . . . . but when my gabbie was born, she she had a FULL head of BLONDE hair . . . and now it is down past her shoulders . . . for all the "bald" baby girls out there, it will grow out soon, until then, u can use the little velcro bows . .

I read in a parenting magazine that shaving their head to get hair to grown in does not work and many parents think it does since when little hair does grown in its simply gives off the illusion that it worked so thats kinda why i didnt wanna do it to my son who almost 13 months. Its nice that someone posted this because my son had hadrly any hair too, was a bald baby and now has some hair but still not compared to how much my other son had at his age, i can't even comb his ! i myslef wonder how long it will be till it grows in. but your not alone !

My son's the same, he had a fair amount of dark hair when he was born but now you can barely tell he has any hair at all. It's very fine, blonde and short. It has grown longest at the back so he looks like he has a sort of mullet now! My partner apparently was pretty much bald until he was 2 so seems our son will be the same way. :)

No worries. My 5 year old daughter just started getting her hair in except I never shaved her head. Or clipped it. My 1 year old son looks like he has an old man hair line. He has no hair up top and very thin but long hair in the back and sides. It will grow in. I was bald till I was 4 and I have the thickest hair ever. So did Dad. It's genetic most of the time. I hope this helps. I bet she will have beautiful hair when she is older.

That was because when hair is shaved it only looks like it grows back thicker Kids usually has fine hair till they are 7 when they get big kid hair or hair more like adults. Genes can play a part in how thick or how curly the hair is my son's hair is very fine and thin but so is mine the wives tales are not true.

My daughter was born bald as a ping pong ball and stayed that way until she was nearly 3. I despaired because I thought she would have thin hair her whole life. well- at 12 we have to have it thinned regularly because it is the THICKEST hair I have ever seen in my life! I am not kidding. I did none of those old wives tale things and it all worked out. I think hair is just in the genes. She will either grow she won't- my daughter's father has the same hair she does.

My daughter was the same way. Her hair just wasn't growing. She had always had really bad cradle cap, so one day I took some grape-seed oil and put that in her hair. Once it soaked for a little bit I took a comb and went at it. It took a couple of treatments, but the cradle cap is gone and her hair is actually grow fast now.

I think that may be where the old wives tale of shaving the baby's hair might have come from. Way back then it was easier to treat cradle cap and lice when the heir was shaved or trimmed close to the scalp.

My daughter was practically bald until her second birthday. My son (13 mo) is the same so far...just a little fuzz and a couple of longer locks. Her's were on the top of her head, his are on bottom in back. I didn't have a lot of hair as a baby either. It is completely normal. The wives tale is silly.

My first had very thin hair and it grew weird. Everyone thought we cut her hair the "in" style cut-short in the back and long up front, but we didn't ,it's just the way it grew. She is 3 now and has hair all one length-with no cuts to it and it's down to the middle of her back.

My 1 year old now was just born with full full head of hair and never lost any of it,i just kept growing on us. She turned one in May and her hair is now to the middle of her back. Every baby/child is different and they each grown at differnet rates..

My older son had lots of dark hair from birth but my second baby boy is hairless. He has very fine hair. We're Chinese and all the kids in the family have dark hair. But his is very light brown and thin. I suppose he took after me and eventually will have more hair grown-in. I have pictures of myself at his age with also cancer patient like fur like hair.

My daughter was the same way. She was born with some hair but not a lot & didn't get much hair til she was 2. At 2 I could finally start using barrettes and had to use hair clips because it was growing in her face and I didn't want to give her bangs. She's now 4 and has a TON of hair! Lol. Hang in there Momma, she'll get long beautiful hair soon!

My daughter is the same way! Her hair has gotten thicker (comparatively speaking), but not much longer! I want to be able to put it in cute little pigtails and stuff, but no such luck! We can barely put barrettes in it, and then just one on the top... I don't believe the wives tale, and don't want to shave her hair off when it's taken so long to get just this much, you know?

My baby is the same way, and so was I as a baby. My son has just enough fine hair that you can see his hairline, but from more than a few feet away he is completely bald. I was that way until about 3 years old, too. I don't believe the wives tale because my hair is like that and I've tried cutting it to make it grow or even look fuller and it does not work. Don't worry, your baby will have hair eventually :)

when my daughter was born she had a head full of head. now she's a year old, and the sides and the back are really short(from where she had rubbed the hair off)and blond and the top is very long and it's brown. it looks like she has a mohawk. i just cut the top of it so that it doesn't get too long and i'm just waiting for the rest to catch up, the parts that finally turned brown.
