i was told to put a pinch of sugar in the water...but that sounds stupid to me because thats defeating the purpose. i should just give him juice if i wanted him to have the sugar.

Have you tried a straw cup? My 9 1/2 month old did much better with this than the typical sippy cup...and she enjoys everything she drinks from the straw but hates the same things from a regular sippy cup...

Michelle, thats an excellent idea.......... why didnt I think of that? He only has 2/3 bottles of milk a day now so I can switch. My 2 year old stopped having milk from a bottle at 10 months too.

Good thinking batman!!! :o)

I was told by my doctor that it is actually better to give water instead of juice. And that it is even better if you don't give them any juice till they are older. I was told that children under 2 should only drink milk and water.
Tina, maybe try only feeding him his milk out of a cup. Then he will associate the cup with drinking. Then once he starts taking the cup better try giving him water in it.

I don't really want to give him juice. The thing is......... he won't even let me put the cup to his mouth to drink it. It's like he knows its something other than milk!!

Lauren, I also have a 2 & a half year old and I started to give him cooled boiled water almost from birth and he now only drinks water & smoothies. He is a happy healthy little boy. I have no idea who told you water is toxic but I think you should ask a professional somebody in your area as all people need some form of fluid to drink other than whats in our food. :o)

have u tried putting ice in the sippy cup the sound of the ice hitting the cup was enough to encourage my daughter to drink water as it was a game for a little while.

i was always told no to giving my son water at all.
i use it when mixing his formula and for diluting juice.
to give him just plain water could be toxic? hmm..

Juice isn't bad in moderation! Watered down juice is a great idea. Good luck!

My son was the same way, so i gave him watered down juice and just kept adding more water and less juice. Now he drinks water no problem out of a sippy cup. He is 9 months.
