I have tried making him go to bed early, tried early naps i have tried it all even cutting out naps but then he falls asleep at 8 and wakes up at 10 and is awake until 4am. Help i need sleep!

Aww poor you, no sleep is no fun!!

My son is 2yrs8months and we had a few nights of him fighting us on sleeping just after christmas.

He was napping from 12.30-2pm, then going to bed at 8pm, waking around 6.30-8am. Then with all the upheaval with christmas and sleeping at different houses and all the chocolate and family being around he wasn't having his naps which was ok because it was christmas and exciting.

After christmas he decided he didn't want to nap anymore, I tried to get him to sleep for a week but he wouldn't have it, then come night time he would strip his cot and throw his toys out and shout to us he wasn't tired, or was scared, or hungry or sick - any excuse!!

I've now given up on naps altogether, he goes to bed at 7.30pm, so we eat earlier, around 5.30, then turn the main lights off around 7pm, just leaving a lamp on, tv off, warm bubble bath, 2 stories, lots of kisses and cuddles then he goes into his bed.

If he stays up shouting then he gets a warning that it's time for bed and if he continues to shout then i will take his fave toy out of his cot and he won't have it til morning, if he carries on then i follow through and take the toy away. I was terrified of doing it the first time, but i had to because i said i would, he was fast asleep within 30mins of me taking the toy, and hasn't pushed us since, because i warn him i will take the toy and he knows i mean it.

If he lies there and doesnt get himself up to shout he falls asleep, he's not had a nap so i know he's tired, if he does fall asleep in the day i dont let him sleep past 4pm, or he wont be tired for bedtime.

I think 10pm is a little late for a 2year old to be going to bed, plus you need some time to yourself in the evening to unwind, try shifting the schedule a bit, an hour or so before bed keep things quiet and mellow, low lights, warm bath, soothing stories, no rough or loud playing. then kiss and hug and goodnight.

hope it all works out for you, good luck!! xxx
