Hello Everyone,

My daughter turned six months today (29th of Nov.). She has her 6 month check up tomorrow. Pediatrician says that babies this age only need 2 feedings of solids a day. She is eating 4 tablespoons of ceral and half jar of stage 1 fruit for breakfast and cereal and half jar of a veggie for dinner. She has 2 bottles in between these meals and one before bed. They vary in ounces, anywhere from 3-5 ounces. Does anyone feed their baby solids at lunchtime? Also, has anyone tried the stage 1 meats? I am unsure of her weight since her 5 month checkup, but she should be about 18 pounds. I will find out tomorrow. Suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

My son was 6 months old on the 16th Nov, and has been on 3 meals from about 13-14weeks as he was suffering from really bad reflux, he has improved hugly since getting food. He still gets a small bottle (3-4oz) of milk with every meal and a larger one (6-7oz) at bedtime. finally got him off his night feeds too, still wakes up for a moan tho!!

My son is 6 months and 3 weeks and he has around 800mls of milk still a day (4 bottles) every 4 / 5 hours and I give him normally fruit in the morning with cereal, he isnt a huge eater, prob has about 2 or 3 ice cubes of food. then for lunch he normally has fruit or vegies that I have cooked, 2 ice cubes and for dinner the same. He has also just started to sleep through the night without a bottle after around 8pm, which is great. He had his 6 month checkup and everything was good he is in the top 75% for his weight, height and head circumference.

My daughter is 6 months old and her pediatrician recommended 3 feedings of solids a day...breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, most of the time I can only get 2 into her. My 2 yr old HATED the stage 1 meats so we didnt force the issue. We havent started meats with the 6 month old yet.

My son is 7 months and he eats 1/2 1st stage of fruit for breakfast & 1/2 of veggies for lunch. His bottles are one at 5-6:00 am, 10:30-11:00 am (depending on his nap time), one in the afternoon 2-3p, one for dinner 6-7p, and one @ around 11p. He is 18 lbs and his bottles are anywhere from 5-6 oz w/ a lil' bit of cereal. He is a pretty good eater, but he's not unhealthy. He is just cut his bottom teeth and is looking at table food like "give me some of that mom". My son did not like the 1 stage meat jars of foods at all. So far the doctor says he's doing ok w/ weight and development. He is also in the walker but not going anywhere yet.

I agree all babies are different and really go at their own pace for things. My first daughter was doing very well at eating at 6 months - biting, chewing etc. My second is 6 months now and she is not interested in chewing food yet. I do feed her 2 to 3 jars of baby food (stage 2) w/ cereal to help thicken it up as well as 2 full 6 oz bottles and 2 to 3 partial (3 oz) bottles a day.

My baby is 7 months old and is only eating one time a day. He didn't really want to start eating, so he took a while to start eating the little he eats now. He still breastfeeds often. At his 6 month appointment, the doctor didn't seem concerned at all. I think it depends on the baby and what is good for him or her.

My son is 6 months old also and he is a little piggy! He eats 5 or 6 tbl of cereal and a whole container of fruits of veggies in the morning and then again before bed. He will also have about 2 bottles (of 6 oz each) during the day! If he is still wanting more I will normally give him a small bottle of water.

Also every child is different!! Remember that when they tell you how much babies are "suppose" to weight at checkups, they are the average!! But you have to think about adults, there are tall adults and there are short ones! Its the same with kids!

Hopefully this helps!!

We just went to our 6 month check up last week and to my surprise our pediatrician said our son should be having 3-4 meals a day, we've only been giving him 2 up until now. We started solids early, around 4 months by choice because he was showing signs of interest, so he's been introduced to many fruits veggies, chicken and beef. I try to stay away from jarred baby food and make my own but I do buy the cereals some of the fruits and "desserts"... He said to make sure we offer him red meat and lots of green veggies to be sure he's getting enough iron. He also said no more than 24 ounces of formula in a 24 hour period (I mostly nurse but do give him the odd bottle of formula). Now I'm trying to work in another meal but honestly he isn't a big eater right now (might be from teething) so it's been a little difficult. He used to have cereal and fruit in the morning then chicken with veggies and a fruit or "dessert" at supper, with snacks in between (either mum mums, gerber puffs, cheerios, yogurt melts.. etc.) Now I give him either cereal and fruit or meat and veggies depending on what time he wants his first meal, then meat and veggies for supper, and cereal with fruit in the evening before bed. For the most part he lets me know when he's hungry and I don't try to force it if he's not.

My son is 6 months old now and he started on solids a bit after 4 months due to not sleeping properly through the night and always wanting more feeds than I would think is needed (he is child number 3). He now has 3 solid feeds in the day-usually his baby cereal for brekkie, some apples or banans for lunch (about 1 whole cooked and pureed apple or half a banana with rice cereal) and a vegetable or two for dinner-probably about a half a small baby bowl. He is all the right sizes on the charts and is quite happy. He also has his milk feeds (breast fed) which can be anywhere from 4-6 a day but they are not big feeds as he likes to snack! I only started feeding him these amounts after I consulted my health nurse and asked a few mums I know :)
