Almonds can be processed into a milk substitute called almond milk; the nut's soft texture, mild flavour, and light colouring (when skinned) make for an efficient analog to dairy, and a soy-free choice, for lactose intolerant people and vegans. Raw, blanched, and lightly toasted almonds all work well for different production techniques, some of which are very similar to that of soymilk and some of which actually use no heat, resulting in "raw milk" (see raw foodism).
I have seen almond milk at our local Wal-Mart in the dairy section. Surely a health food store will carry it or know where you can get it.

Just saw this post about soy allergy from back in December. Did you get into the allergist yet and find out what level his soy allergy is at? My daughter is highly allergic to soy after a blood test and skin test confirmed it. I'm having a hard time trying to feed her since almost all processed foods have some kind of soy in it! At least she's healthy with an all natural diet. =)

alot of times if your baby is very sensitive to lactose they will be unable to have any milk products (if breastfed) or if on formula they will be unable to have regular or soy formula. I think they make a formula called Numigen which is a hypoallergenic formula just for these allergies.

I don't know if you would call this being allergic, but I can't eat anything with soy in it or drink soy milk because it causes my son (he is breastfed) considerable gas pain.
