When do you start feeding baby jar foods?

I completely 100% agree with you! I can't believe they get away with making that rubbish for babies! I wouldn't feed those jars to a dog!

Thats ok if your babies haven't had any probs! Thanx 4 ur replies Elise and Kyra! I just don't understand why we are all being told different things! I had to attend a weaning meeting when my 1st daughter was 3 months old to warn us not to start weaning at 4 months because their stomachs are not ready and could make them ill especially if they have any allergic reaction to anything and also not to feed our babies jar foods they said the jars have 4 months stated on the labels because the shelf life is so long the shops are still stocking them after the new health legislation changed to 6 months and they also said that the reason you should never feed babies jar food is because of the high salt content which is why the shelf life is so long. Also if your baby is unable to sit up by themselves there is a possibility they can choke on the food.

The doctors say that you shouldn't start you baby on jar foods until they are 6 months old. However, I started giving my baby cereal in here bottle when she turned 2 months old and I started her on jar foods when she turned 4 months old. So far she hasn't had any complications plus when she goes to visit her doctor, the doctor says she's doing fine and she is very healthy. All I can say is try to spoon feed your baby cereal and fruit first and see what happens. If your baby adjusts well then you know what to do ;o)

theres always someone trying to force their opinions on us isn't there? its ok to give babies rice cereal at around four months. why else do you think they would sell baby food that has 'from four to six months' written on the jar?

Why are all you ppl allowed to feed your babies at 4 months? I had to wait for my daughter who is now 1 yr and 10 months to turn 6 months before giving her solids and I am waiting for my younger daughter who is now5 months to turn 6 months before I introduce her to food. My health visitors have told me from the start babies have to be 6 months before you are allowed to feed them anything!

I talked to my pediatrician about this at our 4 month check up. She said it's fine to do rice cereal at 4 months, but to wait until 6 months to introduce anything else. My daughter is 5 1/2 months and is just on breastmilk. I plan on following the La Leche Leagues advice for when to start solids so we may not be starting until 9 months.

My baby is 5 months old, and I started her on sweet potatoes a week ago. i did rice cereal first, but she always kind of struggled with it. I think it had to do with the texture, but she loves the sweet potatoes! Its all in when they are ready, and not when you are ready. Give it a shot and see how your little one does. They say to start them on yellow veggies...Squash..then sweet potatoes, and peas, and carrots, and banannas..they are the least harsh on their bellies. And you are supposed to start veggies first because if you give them sweet fruit, they normally dont like their veggies...every baby is different, just follow your babies signs. Good luck!!

i started my daughter on rice cereal at 4 months.. she is now 5 months 1 week and eating fruits and veggies... she started on them about 2 weeks ago.....

You will know when your baby is ready... if he keeps most of the food in his mouth rather than spiting it out and if he trys to intercept your food while your eating, he is probably ready.

start out slow only one food at a time and wait 3-6 days to introduce new foods.... this allows for you to observe for any negative reactions he might have. NOT recomended to do meats or stage 2 jar food,, and definately NO COW MILK,, This could produce allergy....

Hi Grace, If you have time try to avoid the jar food. Leave it when you are in a rush or something like that. I hope to introduce the jar food to my baby as late as I can. But not earlier than 6 month.

i think we all got hte right feeling when our babies are ready for certain things and when they are just not. the best thing is to find the right way between what you fell, you doc advices you and how your little one reacts on it, and every baby is different but you`ll see soon what they are ready for and what not and what works for you! all we can do is try to do the best and if we don`t succeed today we`ll start over tomorrow

My son is almost 5 months old and I started him about 3 weeks ago. I only feed him fruits and veggies: squash, bananas. And I am going to start carrots.

i just had that conversation w/ my doc and she said when they do fine for a couple of weeks w/ the cereal than you can start the 1st food..every 4-6 days until you introduce a different kind to see if there are any allergies towards any new foods, just wait a little w/ the sweet potatos, my kids always got really bad gas until they were like 6 mon old.

At our 4mo check up the pediatrician said it's okay to start stage 1 fruits and veggies, but no meats or stage 2.

I started giving my daughter applesauce and banannas at 4 months. I took her to the doctor a few wekks later and he said if she can handle the fruits, try some veggies.

hi ya, my baby is 4months 1week old :) he is on baby rice and cereal i spoke to the health visitor about jar she said try to make your own its cheaper but he can have it now try to avoid meats and fish just veg.
