It wont hurt if you do half milk, half formula at first.. Over time just put a little more milk then formula so his belly can get used to it, and learn to digest it properly : )

More info about whole milk from http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/forbidd... "Whole milk should not be introduced as a replacement for breast milk or formula until after 12 months. This recommendation is due to the fact that whole cow milk cannot properly sustain a growing infant. It simply does not have all the nutritional components needed for healthy growth and development. There is also a bit of difficulty in the digestion of whole milk proteins. Yogurt and cheese are cultured and thus tend to be more easily digested."

Every baby is different and so it sounds like Ricky's doctor recommended it and the baby is doing well. I did want to note that giving a baby yogurt and cheese is different than giving whole milk. Based on what I read yogurt and cheese are great for babies and they are easier to digest than whole milk. For example, the process of making yogurt "breaks down the milk lactose into simple sugars, which are more easily absorbed" and also "making yogurt less allergenic than milk" (Sears).
Ultimately, you have to decide what is right for your baby...ever parent knows what is best for his/her baby. :)

I just starting giving my son whole milk. Very little though. my doctor told me i could start introducing it very little at a time at 6 months (he is ahead of everything and is a little monster and she didnt think he would have any problems) but i waited til now. But he hasnt had any problems with yogurt and cheese and doesnt seem to have a problem with milk. I give him a 2-3 ounces a day as a drink, the rest of his drinks are water formula and watered down juice.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, "strict avoidance of cow’s milk in the first 12 months of life is essential in preventing iron deficiency anemia.” I also read that another reason not to introduce cow's milk "until at least one year" is because it "is not wise to introduce a potentially allergenic drink at the same time that your baby's intestines are getting used to a variety of solid foods" (Sears).
I started introducing whole milk to my baby when he was around a year but I did a very slow transition. I agree with Kim in that I liked giving my baby some formula (since I gave my son Good Start with probiotics) I was giving him additional vitamins, minerals, and immune support. I did not transition my son completely to whole milk until he was around 17 months.
I do think the majority of people transition to whole milk shortly after the one year birthday. Based on what I read, it seemed there was no rush.
Also, when you do transition you may want to consider buying organic whole milk. For more information please refer to this article: http://mommby.com/Food/Infants_Toddlers/...

Wait a bit longer....& Suggestion - When you do decide to eliminate formula, do it when it's warmer (Summer) than Bub may be less likely to catch a bug cold etc Just because you are cutting out all of those good extras that they put in baby formula, Which I believe do help our little Bubbas!

No! In fact everything that I have read says do NOT give your baby cow's milk until they are at least a year old. Please check with your pediatrician.

my son actually had his 9 month check-up today and we were told to start introducing him to it because he has plenty of iron in his blood. Usually she recommends 1 year but we get to start a little early,

No, i havent given my son cow's milk. i just breast feed him or pump and put it in a sippy cup. but i thought they said not to give them whole milk cuase its bad on their kidneys and they cant digest it properly. so im just waiting till he's one but thats not very long as he just turned 9 months yesterday

I'm waiting until maybe about 14 to 15 months to give my baby whole milk. I have a genetic disease called hemoglobin e which means that i have lack of red blood cells as well as iron. Just to make sure my son has all of HIS iron and doesn't become anemic I was advised to keep him on formula until after one year. I suggest if you were taking iron supplements during pregnancy you should also keep your baby on formula until after 12 months. But then again, everyone is different right?

if you are still putting the full amount of formula for amount drunk into the bottle and he is doing ok then i guess it is ok but if you are only putting in enought formula for water then adding cowsmilk then no, cows milk doesn't have all the nutrition that a baby needs in it.
probably would be safer to hold off a bit longer

well im still giving him his formula but just adding two ounces of milk to it. like for example...if he eats 7 ounces one bottle i will do 2 ounces of whole milk and 5 ounces of formula. if he eats food hen he gets a 5 ounce bottle and i put 2 ounces of milk and 3 ounces of formula. He seems to be doing good. its not constipating him or anything an dhe is holding it down real good. does that make it any better?

Hi! You should probably check with your GP/Health Visitor as everything I've read says babies shoul dhave formula up until 1 year old as they have added vitamins and minerals to ensure they receive a varied diet combined with the solid foods.
