My little girl is 4 months old on Friday... she use to sleep from about 8 till 12 then till 4 then about 6/30 7.... for the past week it has changed drastically last night she woke at 8.30, 9.45, 11.30. 1.33, was awake 2.30 till 4.30 then awake again at 5.40 and 6.40 then 8.30? i have no idea whats going on, she just wants to feed all night!!! the pacifier didnt work! someone said teething, another sleep regression due to developmental growth and i was thinking growth spurt, because i have put 6 outfits away in a week?? she was only fussy during her 2hr wake up rest of the time as soon as i attached her to me she was ok, im totally exhausted just wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

Yes....My son is going through the same thing. I was actually researching it last night and found some interesting information. Apparently newborns go directly into deep sleep and stay there but once they get to the 3-5 months old they go through cycles much more similar to adults. It takes about a 1/2 hour for them to get into a deep sleep cycle then they complete the cycle every 50-60 minutes resulting in a baby that wakes every 1.5-2 hours. I researched some books and purchased the No-Cry-Sleep-Solution and The no-cry-nap solution last night (I am not a fan of the cry it out method) and I will let you know how it goes. I am hoping it will help my son learn to put himself back to sleep. He doesn;t have a problem putting himself to sleep originally (goes down drowsy but happy) but in the middle of the night he is not so good at that. I wish everyone luck and some good sleep!!

Can giving them s26 gold which is loaded with iron keep them awake? My 4 month used to sleep straight through now she wakes every hour. I breastfeed but give her s26 gold in her poridge.

I hope shes sleeping better. My little guy is back to sleeping all night and I am definitely enjoying it, but he is teething now so who knows how long it will last.
You should feed your baby if they wake up and thats what they want because its most likely a growth spurt and they are needing the extra nutrition. If they normally sleep through the night they will go back to that routine. Also I will feed more before bed and that seems to help. Also sleep patterns are becoming more like yours and they aren't in a deep sleep for 20-30 minutes. So that also takes a little adjustment because they can't just fall into deep sleep right away anymore. If my boy isn't asleep for a while before we go to bed my hubbies snoring wakes him up and I have to start all over again.
Chantelle-Have you talked to your doc about giving juice so young? If it works for you cool but I always waited longer on juice because it can be pretty hard on there bellies.

My baby has been more aggitated at night too. Knock on wood, she's still an awesome sleeper. I don't want her to get into the habit of eating during the night, so when she fusses, I try the pacifier. If that's not enough, I take her into bed with me. Probably not the best solution, but she goes back to sleep. I am hoping that this helps her realize that nighttime is for sleeping, and that she needs a big meal before bed, and when she wakes up. So far it's worked...

My daughter is 20weeks old & has slept through from 7 weeks & doesnt wake for a bottle, she goes down at 9 and sleeps through till 9! If she has ever woken in the past I have given her either sugar water or juice. Keep a check because it could be that baby is getting hungry, in which case I would start weaning! I started mine at 11 weeks & have had no problems with crying, restlessness etc ever since & it has helped her develop her hand eye co-ordination better & from being in a high chair she can nearly sit up unaided! Good luck

My baby boy has been sleeping all night since he was three months, but for the past week he has been waking up around 3 wanting to play and eat. I think he is teething though b/c hes been doing a lot of chewing on his fingers and drooling. So for the past couple of nights I have been rubbing oragel on his gums and giving him pain reliever hes back to sleeping through the night.

We have an occasional growth spurt or as I call it a feeding frenzy where my bub will want to feed every 1 - 11/2 hours, I know what you mean about killing your sleep as I'm exclusively breastfeeding too... it usually only lasts about 2 nights and 1 day with a half day on either side... apparently it's normal, if incredibly difficult on mum! Having had a premmie, we had a few extra feeding frenzies too.... it made me sick at one stage because I was soooo drained and then got a flu that I couldn't shake... better now but horrible experience

We have had this problem the last week also. My daughter was sleeping from 8:30-4:45 and then awake until 5:30 and then back to sleep to 8:00. Now she is waking up every hour and a half to two hours all night long. She was a better sleeper as a newborn. Last night was a bit better. She slept from 9-2 then slept until 5 then up til 7 then back to sleep to 8.
I would be ok with this sleep pattern. It sure beats being awake ALL night nursing! She also has not been napping well (45 minutes max. every 4 hours) She has been super fussy all day long. She has not been eating well either, just grazing all day. I am definitely hoping this is just a phase. I miss my happy baby!!

Im glad to say her sleeping patter is some what back to normal, and she has become a lot easier to settle down at night, she is now going to bed around 6, wakes at 9.30 10 for a feed, then sleeps till 2, wakes at 4 5 then up at 630, finally getting some sleep again woohoo!

my baby girl started sleeping through the night at 2 months too, but she has had a big change in sleeping patterns too the last few nights. she has been waking up to feed AND wants to play. im pretty good at decoding her cries, so sometimes i just let her play in her crib for a bit until she falls back to sleep or gets hungry. i talked to my doc and she said it is normal at this age for their sleep patterns to change. give it a week or so and she should establish a new "normal".

she didnt seem to bad last night she woke at 1245 230 and 5am hopefully she is getting back to normal because its been killing me! and she didnt even want her naps that much so i couldnt rest during the day! fingers crossed.....
i tried her paci and most the time she was spitting it out and wanting a feed, i cant really try the rice cereal in a bottle because i am still exclusively breastfeeding her. I cant remember her past growth spurts being so destructive to our sleep... she ussually just gets angry when feeding during a spurt, thinking she wasnt cranky cause i had extra milk during the spurt from a lot of expressing.

My baby started sleeping through the night at two months. I stopped changing her diaper in the night and only fed her for a few minutes. I went from six to four to two minutes when she would wake up through the course of maybe a week and a half. Also, if he wakes up crying, give him his paci and he may fall right back to sleep. This is the way I was able to get Kalli to sleep through the night. Maybe it will work for you too.

Yes, this will usually happen in the first year. It's nothing to worry about. People will say you need to keep a sleep schedule, I keep a night schedule only, but you need to let them make their own. Shes growing more in spurts now, so a daytime food and nap schedule can be hard to keep. All of my kids have done this, my youngest is 4 months and he has done this every other week for a month now. Good luck.

yes yes my daughters the exact same! shes generally good at night, goes to bed at 8:30 - 9 then wakes at 12:30 then again at 4 & then is up at 7 to play. But its just recently in the last few weeks some nights are horrible about a week ago she woke 7 times, then 6 times the next night, & then the whole night the next night so im guessing its a growth spurt. My daughter is also 4 months old and is teething atm but your not alone :)
