Hi everyone!
My baby is 8.5 mnths old (may 29th 2010). I give him stage 2 baby foods. he gets cereals for breakfast, veggies for lunch and recently i've started giving him fruit yogurt for dinner. He gets half a jar of each veggies and the fruit yogurt. He gets formula for about 3-4 times in daytime and for 2 times at night. He still gets up for night feeds.
Now my main concern is that for how long should i continue baby foods. i mean when is the right time to give him normal food which we eat?
your suggestions will really be appreciated!
thnx

Basically at this point anything that's easily mashed can be fed to your LO. Then when they have developed their pincer reflex you can start doing cherrios, shredded cheese, cut up soft fruit, ect.... My son is 9 1/2 months and eats pretty much everything that I do, just in smaller bites. You can also try mixing small bits in with the baby food so that he continues to eat that. I get wic, and they provide baby food (stage 2) until baby is a year old. Sometimes it helps to get creative. Mixing the fruit foods in with oatmeal or cereals really helps too.

I give my son a mixture of table food and baby food and I have done so from the first time he had solids. I just make sure that the vegies etc are soft enought that he can chew them with his gums as he has no teeth as yet. He has cereal and toast for breakfast, vegies for lunch and vegies and meat for dinner and has fruit, cheese etc snacks through out the day. He will be 9 months tomorrow.

Hi, my lil girl will be 9months on the 25th she has the stage two food aswell and I give her normal ready brek for breakfast as she wont eat the baby breakfast cerals and she loves it. I normally give her the baby food at lunch and depending upon what we're having for our even meal i try and do something in which she can eat aswell or if she cant eat the whole meal try her on parts of it she can try. Iv foudn she tends to prefer the normal food we give her over the baby food and the baby food doesnt fill her up.

Hi, my baby girl is also 8.5 months. She will eats just about all table foods. I just make sure that the veggies are steamed and I watch her very closely. She does not have teeth yet, but she sure knows how to use her gums. Like the other moms here I give her foods that we eat, healthy of course.
Good luck and have Fun!

Hi Navneet,

It sounds like you could give your baby real food anytime! I actually have only been giving my girl normal food and never went for the baby food. She started at 6.5 months. She has had a lot of fruit and veggies, and a few times she's had meat too. I generally steam or roast most veggies and have them in stick shapes, or shapes she can easily grasp, although she is learning at a fast rate how to pick up small pieces too. She doesn't have teeth yet, but she does a fantastic job with her gums. You can basically give your baby almost anything you eat, provided it's healthy, not high in salt (1 gram of salt [or 0.4g sodium] is the absolute MOST a baby should consume per DAY), and no added sugar.

It's an absolute joy to watch a baby feed him/herself! Good luck and have fun :-)

My son is nine months and I started him on normal food at eight months. I started with soft things like mashed potatoes and oatmeal and now that he's able to chew more and has teeth I give him small pieces of meat. I keep a very close eye on him and he does fine. I give him almost everything I eat
