When my baby is sleeping, her breathing gets really heavy and fast, and then it just seems like she stops breathing all together...... she is almost 2 weeks old.... is this something anyone else has seen in their babies??

I heard newborn babys breathe fom their diaphram, like a yoga breath, but very quicky learn to breath using their lungs, which is the lazier way we all do

my bub does the same thing, its scary at the time.
she had a few scary breathing episodes in hospital which were very scary, so my partner and i invested in a monitor that has the breathing alarm which u place under the mattress!
its the best thing we hav brouhgt, but scares you if it ever goes off!
i suggest if you want to be able to relax a little more invest in one!

My baby is 6 weeks and when she gets into a very deep sleep her breathing gets very slow and soft almost like she isn't breathing at all. I will constantly put my hand on her to make sure she's ok! Even tho I'm told it's normal...I still freak a little when she slows down!

My 5 week old daughter's breathing seemed to have changed last night, as well. Very nasally, rapid, deep breaths. I checked her nose for boogs, but nothing! But she seems to be fine. Maybe just a good dream? :)

Completely normal for a newborn. They will eventually breathe normal all the time as they get older.

My 3 weeker does this also. I was worried at first, but then he would go back to breathing normal.

I think its normal because my baby girl did it when she was like 2-3 weeks old and now she's a month put she does it once in a while but just keep an eye on your baby just incase but everything is going to be ok..…=]

my son also does this, he is now 3weeks. I asked the doc about it and she said that it is something called periodic breathing. they will breath really fast and then slow down, and sometimes stop for a brief time and then sometimes you might hear a gasp as the baby is remembering to breath and then the cycle starts over again. My doc said that it is completely normal as our babies are still trying to adapt to world outside the womb. However if your baby stops breathing for more than 20 seconds, you should call 911. I hope this helps :)

My baby has irregular breathing too. I'm not sure if it's something to worry about, but I doubt it.
