my child is having nightmares at night

Night Terrors. My son wakes up with them also.
His dr said to time them and wake the baby up 15 min before they occur.. that way they wont experience them..
I had to wake my 10 month old son out of one last night.

my daughter does the same thing aswell and she will wake quite a few times in the night leaving her tired during the day. We didnt really know what to do either but we just rub her head til she calms and goes back into a normal sleep so she knows shes safe and we are there. sorry im not much help

My son gets them as well. Nurse told me its night terrors, not necessarily night mares,, she said its where they go between light and deep sleep but they kind of wake up and it scares them because they are still technically asleep. My son I find settles either with a pat on the bum or stroking on his face, although sometimes it is that bad I have to nurse him until he wakes from it and calms down... as far as I know I don't think there is much you can do except wait till they grow out of it. I was told that it usually happens on baby that go to bed over tired and usually always happens around the same time (which in my sons case it does, its usually 3 hours after he goes to bed). Also she said that around 9-10 months is when babies do start to dream, so it is possible it could be bad dreams.. don't think there is much you can do, just show them that your there and they're safe and soothe as much as possible :)

um, how do you know its nightmares? my daughter is 9 mos and she was sleeping through the night for a good month and then got sick and was stuffy and now shes back at waking up 2-5 times a night-pacifer doesn't work anymore so i have to feed her 2-3 ounces and she goes right back to sleep...at this point i think she's teething...try tylenol before bed or maybe a little oatmeal to fill her up more...maybe her teeth hurts or maybe she's hungry, not necessarily having nightmares 'every' night. i've had 4 kids so trust me, this too shall pass :)

My daughter has them too. She wakes up about 3-4 times a week, screaming in terror. She is never awake when I go in there. She is just crying in her sleep. I usually pick her up and rock her until she stops crying. Sometimes it takes a while for her to stop. I lay her back down and she stays asleep. Sometimes she cries tears in her sleep. Breaks my heart!

My son has bad dreams too. Not every night but when he does its the same thing he is crying but not awake. I just go in and rub his butt (he rolls and sleeps on his belly) with in seconds he is fine...I dont know how to stop them just like we cant stop us from having them. My sons scared cry is different thi so I go to him as soon as I hear him when he has one.
