I wouldn't push for sure, however having a potty chair available once your baby starts walking is a great idea, my girls always followed me to the bathroom, and I just allowed it and was open about what I was doing there, at first they would just sit, and chatter to me while playing, at 14 months my daughter was playing nude in the bathroom while I showered, and presto! poopy in the potty for the very first time, We clapped and yayed and did a lil cha cha dance through the house singing We go poopy on the potty! We repeated this routine whenever she had sucess on the potty, and though it still took a few more months before the diapers were gone completely, SHE loved it, and remembered the song and dance a year and a half later when it was her sisters turn to start training. they are now 8 and 6 and have been out of diapers for 7 and 4 and 1/2 years with no accidents or bed wetting ever! I really think having the potty available when they became ready was the key! good luck!

My Dear, my baby girl was potty trained at 8 months old. I regret not buying the potty at 6 months. Sometimes I wud sit on the floor in front of her and comfort her as she uses the potty. Now I just give her two small toys to keep her interest while she does her business.

there is some called Elimination Communication (EC) i've only read a little about it. so do a google search and you can find some good ideas about training a younger baby/child.

I just depends on your child. My Mum had my brother fully day trained by the time he was one, but the rest of us weren't. You could always try him and if he freaks out, or doesn't like the whole thing, you can always try again in a couple of months... My Mum tells me that for My brother, she would send him in with his Dad so that he could see how he does it. She didn't say how she taught us girls :-) but I assume she would have sat us on the toilet when we looked like we were trying to go so we would learn when.

I personally think that 1 year is too early, but i know people that have started then and it has worked great and other who it has been disasterous for ... so who knows! Kathleen is right thou they will start to show signs and that is a good indication that they might be ready to start, but personally i think dont rush it. We tried to start our son to early and he got completely discouraged and refused to do it after awhile. So we had to basically start all over again when he got to a more appropriate age. I think that about 2 - 2 1/2 is a good age to start, but again thats just my personal experience. Good luck!

I spoke to our doctor about this topic, she said that they will start acting interested in the toliet and when their cues for going to the bathroom develope more then they will be ready. We bought a training potty already to let him get use to it and our doctor said that was fine. Good Luck.
