Most docs will say 4 months for rice cereal and 6 months for stage 1 baby food. My doc says cereal at 3 months and stage 1 at 5 months. WIC will tell you different and personally I think they don't know much at least not around here. I never had much luck with baby food at all. My older kids were eating table food by 5-6 months old and wouldn't eat baby food or even pureed table food. My oldest was eating steak and pizza at 5 months and I already KNOW some moms are gonna read that and freak out and I don't care. Whats done is done and I can't change it and wouldn't change it. It all depends on your baby just keep your eyes open for allergies.

i think that mamas just know when their babies need more. My little girl is 4 months now and a few days ago i started giving her a little bit of cereal one time of day at night. She is all into it, eating her spoon like she has never eaten before! the reason i started was because she is constantly hungry like she was when she was a newborn, like ever couple of hours, and since i have started with the cereal, she seems to be more satisfied. I dont wanna rush her at all, but i trust myself, that she needs a little extra. :)

The nurse told me to start my nearly 4 month old son on rice cereal once a day for a week, then increase it to twice a day for two weeks then in the third week do rice cereal for one feed and mashed pumpkin for the second feed for a few weeks then start trialling other foods.

Just do your own thing, alot of doctors say different but they are going "by the book" they say, if your bub looks ready for stage 1 baby food then try, if he or she doesnt like it then try in another month or so, i have started giving my 3 almost 4 month old daughter a bit of baby food on her dummy and she loves it, so now i am going to try her using a baby feeding spoon, like the saying goes, mothers know best

my ped has always told me that for stage one that i should wait until my baby is at last 6 - 7 months old, at 3 months the babys digestive system isn't ready to handle heavy food such as stage one.

all 3 of my boys started on rice cereal and i never had any problems with obesity..i think i have heard that somewhere aswel but i have never seen any cases of it and all of my friends and family has fed their bubs rice cereal, i felt like i was continuisly feeding my boy he's on formula and boobie milk and both of them wasnt enough so yeah he's doing awesome now on 2 feeds a day of cereal

i started the cereal in the formula at night only but i think its time for him to get some food our sons are right about the same age and i just dont think formula is cutting it anymore for him. i heard and read somewhere though that rice cereal is one of the main causes of obesity in babies... idk if thats true... im am also kind of stuck on what feeding to do next...

I've been told that if the baby can sit supported and shows interest in what you're eating then he or she is ready for stage one baby food
