Hello everyone, my baby was born on May 13th, at 32 weeks. He has been progressing perfectly, and then last week I noticed that he was drooling a lot, and this was something that he didn't do before when I checked his mouth I noticed that there was a tooth coming through on the top, it isn't out yet but it is causing him some discomfort. Is there anything that I can do to help him, other than a cold cloth to chew on and teething rings...? He doesn't like the cold. Thanks for all your help..

Sometimes I put a dry rag over my finger and let my little one go to work. She loves to gum away and I don't end up with drool running down my arm.

wow. These posts have pulled it all together. I just thought I had a "drooly" baby... just kidding.

My daughter was born 39 wks on May 13th. She started the "MASSIVE" drooling process about 3 wks ago. I actually found it amusing... she'd suck on her lower lip and find pleasure in it. Several of you have posted about the hyland teething tablets. My neighbor swears by em. I have not tried em yet, but I bought some. I was trying to convince myself that shs was actually teething vs "trying out for the most drool a baby can make contest". So, just want to say thanks everyone for the post. Has been informative. She's my first born... and this mother thing is just kinda been a BIG learning experience.

My daughter was born May 21, at 37 weeks (not nearly as early as your LO but a little early nonetheless), has been teething for several weeks and we got her a Razberry teether (available on amazon for around $5) and she absolutely loves it!

I have heard over and over not to use baby oragel due to choking and unsafe ingredients. My daughter doesn't like the cold either. At Target, I found a homeopathic mouth gel recommended by Dr. Sears. It's not numbing like baby oragel and has all natural ingredients. I'm not sure the name of it though!

Maria- I know the feeling. Squirt is my first too. Before he was born I didn't even know how to change a diaper. You just gotta roll with it.

Maria- probably.

I've found at our boys age their mouths are a little too small to easily use most teething toys out there. Let him gnaw on your fingers or knuckles or screw the dropper lid on a bottle of baby medicine real tight and let him chew on the lid.

We're having a similar problem, but my poor little guy's mouth isn't big enough to chew most of the teething toys we have easily. I've found he can gnaw on my knuckles pretty easily, and you can take a carrot (not a baby carrot but a big one) and he'll gnaw on that. Also, screw the dropper lid on a tylenol or gas drops bottle and let them chew on the dropper. That's sort of nipple sized and he seems to like that, and it's light enough for him to hold himself easily. A friend of mine suggested letting him chew on a toothbrush, but I haven't tried that yet.

How much does he weigh now? B/C my daughter is over 12 lbs, shes 3 months old too, we can actually alternate bwtn motrin and tylenol. My daughters got her two lower central incisors coming in.

i give my son the hylands teething tablets they are homeopathic no drugs or preservatives and they dissolve instantly when they touch his tongue. He seems to like them and it helps with the fussiness and drooling. He is constantly chewing on his fingers so when i give him those it seems to soothe his discomfort. I also gave him baby oragel i tried it on myself first the effect only lasts for about 15min so "the choking hazard" is not really possible unless you put it on the back of his throat. i just put a drop on a Q-tip and run it along the bottom gums and then another drop for the top gums. i would turn to baby tylenol as a last resort. i gave it to my son once because i could tell the teething was really bugging him and wouldnt let him sleep but other than that i just use the tablets and occasionally the baby oragel

My son is starting the teething thing at the moment. I have been giving him baby panadol and putting bongela on his gums as he too doesnt like the cold teething rings. This seems to be working.

As someone else suggested you could try the teething rings at room temperature. Just biting on them helps because of the counter pressure. I think my son is starting to teeth as well but he doesn't have any bumps on his gums or white caps yet. He's drooling a lot and chewing on everything including his fingers :)

my dr told me that i could but i am trying to stay away from that and if it comes to that but i want to try everything else possible first. i don't believe in medicating at such a young age

You can ask your dr about using some baby tylenol if he gets really fussy. I know my dr said the dose for my son (about 1.5wks older than yours) was 0.6 on the dropper...but please ask your dr first.

You can try teeting rings that are not put in the refigerator or freezer. My daughter does not like the cold but she will chew on the teething ring when it is room temp. We have a silicone one that is soft. The pressure can feel good. I would not use Oragel or anything like that on him though. When they are this little it can make them choke on their own saliva from the numbness.
