Hi. I bought the book Homemade Baby Food Pure & Simple by Connie Linardakis. I am making all of my daughters food (even the rice cereal) this book has the first few chapters are about solid food feeding. You should check it out. I didn't listen to the advice of how much to feed. I let my daughter tell me when she was full. I can tell when she has had enough because she will close her lips when I put the spoon up to her mouth or she will get fussy. When she starts fussing then we stop no matter how much she has eaten. I don't want solids to be a bad experience. She is 20 weeks and we started her on solids at 17 weeks. I started out with just plain rice then added sweet potatoes follwed by peas and squash. Don't forget to always wait three to four days between feedings to introduce foods so you know if she is allergic to anything. I've done a lot of reading on feeding if you have any questions.

I don't know about books but I can tell you what my Dr told us last week:

5 months: Start feeding 2tbs cereal/day and over the course of 2 weeks increase to 5tbs/day. By 7 months should be up to 10tbs per day. (A note: if yo child gets constipated on rice cereal you may want to try the single grain oatmeal instead).

5 1/2 mo: Start veggies. give the same one for 3-4 days to see if there is any allergies then try the next. Continue with different veggies.

6mo: Should be about through most veggies. After veggies start fruits. Same process as veggies.

around 7 months do the same with meats.

By the time you get to 8 months old my dr said my son should be eating each one 2xs/day...cereal, veggies, fruits, and meat. Formula should decrease to 18-24oz/day.

This is just what my dr said for my son but it should give you an idea of where to start. Hope it helps :)
