Do you ladies shave/wax before the birth?
I normally just trim it shorter, but idk if it looks weird to not shave, or maybe it looks weird to shave! Idk.
What's your plan?

With erics birth I just trimmed, but felt awkward wondering if I should have just shaved it off.

Obviously with a c section I think you have to be shaved, or they will do it for you, but with a vaginal birth, what do you think is the best thing to do?

aww stephanie! My mum was a nurse for 25+ years she told me some pretty crazy and usually gross stories... pee is the least of their problems! but yes it doesn't mean it's not embarrassing for the patient! thank god there are some understanding and nice nurses out there.. they make a world of difference! It's going to be my second time around delivering and the whole "pooping on the delivery table" anxiety is now back.. didn't do it with the first one but the fear is still there! haha

I imagine there are a lot of cultures that consider shaving, trimming, and/or waxing completely abnormal too...so once again, they see everything.

Quick embarassing confession here: 2 months after my daughter was born, I was in emergency with a blocked liver, pancreatitis, and severe jaundice and the pain was so bad that I was vomiting out of shear agony...but so close after having my baby, I also peed myself on the bed in triage and as I was blubbering out an explanation about just having a baby and my bladder still being weak, the nurse just put her hand on my shoulder and said, "Honey, you're preaching to the choir." I could've kissed her lol.

I shave regularly. I can't just trim; it all has to go. Obviously it's a lot harder now with the belly in the way, but I still do a decent job.

I don't think anyone would judge.... I think any male doctor in the obgyn profession especially, will have seen it before and see it as purely medical. I'm not concerned because i doubt i'll ever see them again anyway.

you guys are funny...i love all the hubby comments! I always shave...If tummy is in the way..to me bc its habit I can just FEEL where I need to shave versus ever seeing any of it! LOL Umm Laura...bc you commented on male docs...they didnt get me into a gown before they started my IV so everytime I had to go to the bathroom during my induction I had to wrap my blanket around me...bc I was just in my tank top and bra..yea that was fun! lol...and when they did have me push and get checked and all..it was pretty much all out there..ANYWAYS...GOOD LUCK to you ladies..Id say whatever makes you feel cleaner/prettier...for me thats shaved...but if it doesnt happen it doesnt happen....no one should judge...:)

i happened to have a doctors appointment the day i got induced with my daughter and i always shaved before an appointment so i was shaved for labor, i feel more clean and felt like i should be shaved for birth, however i am much bigger and less flexible this time so its more difficult i am thinking i may just trim but i want to be shaved,as far as waxing Ive never done it and would be scared to try, plus i barely have money to keep my eye brows waxed let alone down there. but being that i will go into spontaneous labor this time i dont see myself wanting to take the time to completely shave since i dont do it to often anymore , so we will see how it is come the time. i did remember thinking in labor im glade i shaved cause my mom ended up taking pictures while the baby was coming out, not to mention i was naked in the tub most of my labor so ever thing was visible almost the whole time..I think we plan on video and photos this time but still debating on the video, I am having photos taken because i ended up wishing more were taken he first labor. I have watched many videos were women have and haven't shaved and occasionaly there is a "down there" that is way out of order and makes me think i cant look like that if people are going to be looking at me, i think when it comes to using the mirror its easier to see things earlier if your shaved because there isnt any hair but your babies, I also felt like after my daughter was born that with all the bleeding i was really glade there wasent very much hair because that is one thing i cant stand, i have to shave soon as i know im going to start my period, lucky me i get cramps 1-2 days before hand.....nothing wrong with being modest or wanting to look and feel you best for labor

With the 1st baby I was more anal about being shaved but at the end I just made sure my legs and underarms were shaved.. This one however it's been so long and difficult I am lucky that when I shower my hair gets washed.. especially with a 5 year old!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't shave at all and they do not require you to shave. I've had 5 vaginal births and this should hopefully be another one.

Maybe looking at some birth videos/stories would help you to relax Laura?
What's the likelyood you'll meet any of the people you have in the labour room again? We have community care, it's rare to get the same one twice, and even if you did, they're not likely to remember you're privates, they're more likely to remember your beautiful baby :)

I haven't seen much sex talk here, hmm maybe should check it out! Lol. I'm glad you guys don't feel it's embarrassing, I was in the middle of pushing Eric out when my ob said the pediatrician was going to come in to check Eric out right away. So in between pushes I asked her if the ped was a man or a woman, it was a man so I told her he better stay by the warmer thing and just have a nurse carry Eric to him! Lol I still was self conscious the entire time I was laboring. And I hated that the anesthesiologist could see my butt crack while he put the epidural in!
I guess I should relax a bit but my embarresnent is just always on my mind, even in labor.

Trying to trim, and dealing with the re-growth is really starting to get on my nerves.... I don't need shaving rash ADDED to my pains and aches during and after labour, and by the time it came around i didn't give a flying MARE about my foof!!! My man didn't go down there last time, and i doubt he'll go there this time, not that i'll be concerned about his sex drive (or lack of) afterwards.
I do generally like to trim, and obviously take pride in my appearance for the most part, and if i could afford it, or anyone near here did it, if i went to my due date i'd love a bikini wax, but i don't think any professional would judge you, and no family member would dare, if you went in full frontal and womanly!!! It's as natural as anything else you're doing, and i don't think after a 36+ hour labour, shaved legs or arms are gonna be much of a problem either.
:)
P.s NEVER be embarrassed to ask. Anyone who say's it's a disgusting question or an innapropriate place to ask it, is in the wrong and needs to learn what being a real woman is about!!!

I did my best at trimming last time although it's a bit of an adventure considering not being able to see down there. Besides, nothing's sacred in hospitals and no one's going to be looking at that anyway, I imagine all the expanding is a little more distracting hehe. And it's not embarassing, have you seen the sex talk forum here on circle of moms? I stumbled on that recently and there's definately things on there that make me blush lmao.

And if I happen to ask my bf to do it or go anywere near 2 things are going to happen...
1.- he will get turn on and I'll have to take one for the team
2.- he is going to do a mess and I don't trust him with hot wax (not to mention cleaning wax out of the floors is a pain in the ...)

I wax...I do it on regular bases anyways...can't stand the idea of being hairy... but that is just me. :)

PS: I don't think your question is embarrasing. We are all girls here, we should be comfortable talking about this kind of stuff.

I shave pretty regularly...its much harder now than it is normally tho haha. However...when I go into labor...however it is at the time..its staying. I'm not wasting time shaving lol. I don't think nurses, midwives or doctors care one way or the other and they're used to seeing some of EVERYTHING so its not an issue. Whatever you feel comfortable with or is your norm...go with it.
haha I don't know that I trust my hubby with a razor or scissors down there. He'd probably either get turned on and not be careful or all immature giggly. lol

Lol my hubby would totally say, if I have to look there you can't refuse some sex after! Lol, I think I could manage with a mirror...

I don't shave, I do trim but with the belly in the way haven't been able to, hard enough to shave my freaking legs anymore :-) Would ask my husband to trim me up before birth, have to think about that one, he'll probably get turned on and I'll only get half cut right and look all kinds of weird in the delivery room :-D

I think what your chuff looks like is the last thing on your mind. It really does not matter either way. As for shaving in case you have a c section that is not necessary because the line of cut is not that low it is on the pubic line where there is no hair. I had an emergency c section with the last so I can vouch that they do not shave you.

This is done to your preference and not necessity!
