May 2011 baby can't drink from a sippy cup, anyone else with simular problems?

My son just turned a year old on the 25th of May. He has never been able to grasp that you can suck on anything but a bottle. He won't take a pacifier (Which I couldn't really care less about) and he just chews on the end of the sippy cup to get the liquid out.
Not only is it time consuming, but it's messy and he never finished more then an ounze of water, juice, formula, goats milk ANYTHING.

Any tips on how to get him to take one. He's slowly learning how to drink out of an open cup, but he also wants to chew on the top of the cup and ends up spilling it everywhere.

Try different kinds! Straw sippy, the rim top sippy, hard top, etc. it's not that he can't, he just needs to learn. Keep trying and he will catch on! You may have to refuse a bottle for a few hours and try!

I wonder does he possibly have a tongue thrusting issue? My middle child had a very hard time sucking his pacifier as a baby, and he did a few other weird things along the way as well, and we are just now finding out at age 3 that he has a tongue thrust issue.

Maybe put water in it and leave it around him all day. Let him chew on it as long as he wants til he realizes its good for drinking too! Maybe try a firm spout so it's not as fun to chew.
