Should I buy a single or double stroller?

So like everyone else, I am pregnant and due at the end of May. My other daughter will be 3.5 when the baby is born. I am trying to decide whether to buy a single or double stroller. My daughter never rides in a stroller for normal activities, but we walk the dogs several miles sometimes and also go to Busch Gardens and the Zoo several times a year. I currently have a nice single umbrella stroller, but am considering a double but I just don't know if I need one. Perhaps just buying another single and using the connectors when I have to kids out by myself....I just don't know. Anyone already made this decision, or anyone with suggestions? Thank you

My older daughter will be younger than yours when our #2 arrives (only 21mths). While we currently alternate between the pram or her walking/using trolley etc, we have bought a double pram where the second seat easilt de/attaches. That way we can use it with one or both (e.g. While shopping or days out). It wasn't cheap and we haven't started using it, but we are feeling confident that this decision will suit us. Plus our family can always use our original pram if they take our daughter our seperately.

My daughter will be almost 3.5 when her baby brother comes along and we decided against a double stroller. She hasn't wanted to be in the stroller since she turned 2. My parents have a small umbrella stroller that they use with her when they take her to the theme parks, but I haven't used the stroller with her in over a year. We have a travel system for the baby and I'm still holding on to my daughter's stroller, but it will not remain in the car full time.

i have a double stroller....and ive used it once in 3 yrs...lol..they are big...heavy and so awkward to open all by yourself if you think ur gonna go do stuff with the toddler and the new baby...i dont think they are realistic because they are so big...they arent convienant at the mall because half the time the stroller wont turn when it needs too and you look silly trying to operate this limo with kids in it..lol
i say you find some new invention that is realistic and not heavy and you can open it on your own with no help with no issues...i have a 3.5 yo and 2.5 yo and im due with my 3rd so this limo no longer suits us..and even if i thought of using it for the toddlers..they hate being buckled when they know they can just walk and create havoc...lol

good luck with your decision ♥

I've been having this debate with everyone i know, and most of all myself!! My son will be nearly19 months when baby two is here and i plan on using my baby sling as long as possible with the newborn and using the stoller and baby reigns with the elder. When its a long day out, i imagine i'll be with someone else. And i plan on using the stroller for my toddler and the pram/carry cot on chassis for baby. The chassis also holds a newborn to 1 car seat which just clips on and was amazing for my first.
After this, when my second is big enough for the stroller with some padding, i'm hoping to get a buggy board or buggy pod, and for my toddler to stand/sit alongside rather than get a huge double buggy/stroller which wouldn't even fit in my little car and would take up far toooo much room in my small house.
Hope we've helped somewhat!!

I got a Duo Glider double stroller because my first one will be 21 months old when this one is born and we still use the stroller at the mall, parks, etc...

That is also the one I am looking at. The new one the Contours Optima due out in Spring also has cupholders on both the seats and is 10lbs lighter then the others. I think I am going to try and wait till that one comes out. My daughter is 38 in and 32lbs and she liked the way the seat held her and laid back!

The one I'm wanting is called a kolcraft contours tandem stroller. It's the only one I found that has reversible seats for both front and back. It goes up to 40lbs so I think that's about average weight for a 5 year old so I'm pretty excited to get one!
But I do want to see one in person first to make sure Eric will be comfy in it. He is only 27lbs so I'd assume he will fit but I'd like to make sure!

Thanks for all the opinions. My daughter does not nap anymore, and hasn't for a long time. She does still like to sit and relax. I know she is only 3 but when I showed her the stroller options and let her sit in them, she said she preferred to have a seat. I know even as an adult 10 hrs at Busch Gardens or Disney World I wish I had a stroller for myself...lol.

Tucker stopped falling asleep in the stroller when he started walking (at 8 months). Once he figured out that when he was getting sleepy if he could get out and walk by himself, he was good to go! lol. Now that he turned 2 (last week) he never even falls asleep in the car anymore, even on long road trips unless its his nap time. And napping at the zoo and such for a 2 year old...forget it! Too much going on for him to see and be a part of for him to nap..or so he thinks lol. A sit and stand is definitely on our list, but I agree with Laura..if your older child is still napping in the stroller...a sit and stand is definitely NOT an option! If you are unsure of if you want one or not..I suggest waiting until baby is born. Use a carrier or something for a few months and then your older child might be too old (or think they are too old) to use a stroller..or borrow one if its going to be super rarely used. We do a lot of hiking and such so we don't use a stroller all that often. But on summer zoo/aquarium/whatever trips..boy I sure am glad to have one now that he's too big to lug around! haha

If ur older daughter manages to stay awake most of the time I'd say it's a great option! Eric is just such a lover of comfort, he wants a nice comfy seat to snuggle into when he rides in the stroller :)

I don't know anyone with the sit and stand, but thought it would be a good option for us. We still have to go and look at some before we decide.

Mine wil also be 25 months between, but I've decided against the sit and stand cuz Eric tends to fall asleep a lot in the stroller and the sit and stand makes it impossible for him to nap at the zoo, walks etc.
I saw one at shopko that I liked, it was a double, and each seat could go either forward or backwards. So the kids can both be forward, both backwards, or facing each other, or facing apart!
I like the variety, esp for dealing with sunlight.
I think it's normally priced, so not cheap!
But that's the one I've mostly decided on.
Haven't bought it yet, but hopefully with tax return money we can get it.

My son will be 28 months old when baby comes in May. We're getting the Sit'N'Stand by BabyTrend. The older child has the option of sitting on the seat with their feet on the standing pad (buckled in or not) or standing on the standing pad and holding onto the seat. The younger child can sit/lay in the front seat and the older child has the option of sitting or standing. From all the mom's I've talked to and the ones we've played around with, our son loves the option to sit or stand and has an easy time doing it. Plus once the older child outgrows a stroller...extra storage space :)

I considered the Sit and Stand, but I read alot of reviews that said that the toddler has to actually work to stay standing. We spend upwards of 10 hrs at theme parks, so I was afraid she wouldn't be able to sit back and relax. Have you known anyone with one that has experience with one?

My daughter will be 25 months when the baby comes, we were thinking about getting a sit and stand stroller. That way, she can sit in it if she's tired, or stand up like a big girl.
