Mom's "Play Date"

Just wondering if any other mom's are looking for a get together centered around THEM & THEIR interests? I love my children but they play just fine alone, with each other or with anyone else who might be available. They are certainly not starved for "play dates". Now ME on the other hand....! Well that's a different story!
I'm interested in finding a group of gals who likes to get together spur of the moment & for regular planned activities, with and without the kids & hubbies. Dinner parties, scrapbooking, movie nights, walks, appetizers & drinks, game night, etc...
Is there anyone else out there who wants that kind of social life???!! Just because I'm a mom now doesn't mean I'm not still a woman who enjoys dressing up & going out or getting together for girl time!

Sounds great! So, do you both know where Harrison Rd. House Restaurant is on the corner of Harrison & Grand River? Udon Sushi is right behind it on Harrison rd.

Sunday, Feb. 1st at 5:00 - can't wait! :)

OK ladies, sounds like the plan should be Udon Sushi Bakery at 5:00 (since that's when they open) and we can eat there, have bubble tea, and chat.  Sound good?

Oh bubble tea sounds fun to try!! And later in the day is fine with me as well! I don't really know any restaurants in the area so whatever you ladies suggest is great with me. I'm not hard to please :)!

Well, there is a little asian place called Udon Sushi Bakery on the corner of Michigan & Harrison (right behind the Harrison Rd. House Restaurant) & I've been there MANY times for the Bubble Tea, which is delicious. They have like 30+ flavors to choose from. They also have really delicious food but I don't think they have snack type food... I'm not really sure what nationality of food it is, I don't really think it's Chinese so maybe Japanese? They don't open until 5:00 though & they stay open until 3:00 AM. Anyways, if Rita is ok with it, maybe we could meet at 4:00 or later? Our Open House (we are trying to sell) is at 3:30 & I am usually cleaning right up until the last second so I could be somewhere by 4:00 probably.

Let me know what you guys think. Since it will be later, I am totally fine with doing dinner & if we are doing dinner, I have a wide variety of places I enjoy. Of course, Udon Sushi or Max & Erma's or P.F. Changs or Taste of Thai on Grand River (amazing Thai food) or Champions or any other number of places...

What do you guys think?

The 1st is still good.  It sounds like Bethany should probably pick the time since you have something going on that day.  I'm open any time after 1:00 and don't have a late restriction (besides that I like sleep, lol).  If it's dinner time then we should probably eat.  If it's afternoon or later evening then I think coffee would be good.  We could meet anywhere for that - there's a Biggby in Holt, Lansing, Okemos.  Or, there's a place in East Lansing that has Bubble Tea that I've been wanting to try, Bubble Island it's called.  It's the tea with tapioca "bubbles" in it.  Don't know a lot about it but I think they have munchie stuff too.  But I think I'll pass on the sushi for now since I'd hate to be distracted by disliking what I was eating when meeting new people ;).  But that's not to say I won't try it again in the future!

Hi Amy! For some reason your post just came through so I didn't realize you had posted when I was responding to Rita's post.

Anyways, it sounds like you'd rather do coffee? Maybe we can get you to try sushi again another time! :)

So, should we meet at? And what time? Does the 1st still work for both of you?

Well, the whole reason I posted the "wanted" ad was to FIND gals in the area that like to have fun. So, we've found each other... that's a start! :)

I mentioned the sushi because I thought it would be a nice change from the regular get together plus I love sushi also. There's a place on the corner of Okemos Rd. & Jolly Rd. that my husband & I enjoy.

So, Amy, it's up to you... would you rather do sushi or coffee?

Sunday, Feb. 1st will work for me... we have an Open House that day so I'd rather meet later than earlier but do either of you have later restrictions?

I do love sushi! I also haven't had any since before I was pregnant with my son..but I am also always game for a cup of joe. I'll narrow it down to those two and you guys can pick from those...how is that for being evasive lol! Unfortunately I don't really know any other moms in the area to invite otherwise I would too!

That's funny that we're the only ones; but that's ok we can get things rolling and I think I may be able to recruit some other gals that I know in the area later on.

Well, I'm not really sushi fan although I can only say I've tried it once.  But, I'm really up for whatever, so Rita what do you think?

Rita & Amy,

Would you guys rather do food (like sushi), drinks (coffee) or activity (nails)??

I did post to all the communities I'm a member of & so far after about 2 plus weeks you 2 are the only ones that have responded that are local! :)

Should we do coffee?  Unfortunately my local cafe recently closed, but there's (of course) a Biggby's nearby in Holt.  If you like pedicures (which I do) there's a place in Holt I go to that's pretty cheap ($25).  We could do that too.  There's also both of those things in the mall if that's easier.  Anytime after 1:00 works for me.  If you have any other ideas let me know.   I saw that you posted this "play date" idea on other group pages - have you gotten any other responses?

Yeah, I don't get notices from these posts in my e-mail either.

Let's try for Feb 1st.  How about we meet for afternoon coffee or somewhere that we can chat, and go from there?  Or if you had any other ideas, I'm up for whatever.  Just let me know.

Sorry I am just now getting back to you Amy! For some reason my notices of new posts aren't coming through to my email. I'm glad I saw you had posted!

Ok, I could probably do next Sunday afternoon or Monday night. Or possibly Sun the 1st or Mon the 2nd.

I am relatively new to the moms group too although today is my first day actually looking thru things. I am 23 and I stay at home with my two month old. We are new to the Lansing area, Okemos, and I don't know very many people. But I am dying to have something else to do during the day other than walk the mall...lol! Anyway I would love to get together as well. My husband keeps suggesting that I have a girls night and then I have to remind him I don't have any "girls" close. Lol!

That's funny we live so close!  Well the weekends this month are starting to get busy (we have three birthday parties to go to and my son's basketball games start up - again KID stuff!).  But I could possibly do (and this is going to sound lame) either a Sunday afternoon or Monday night, or maybe late on a Friday since I don't get home until usually 6:30/7 from work. Let me know what your schedule usually looks like...

If only I lived closer :-)  I am a working mom...I have a son, Angelo (3) and my daughter, Belle (10 months).  I need to get out more often - that's actually one of my NY resolutions!

actually I live in Mason! So we are neighbors! I was starting to get really depressed that no one has responded to my post. I thought either no one wants to hang out with ME or everyone BUT me already has friends they hang out with! Good to know I'm not the only one!

So, can you pencil in a date any time this month?

Hey there!  I'm new to the group and saw your post.  I feel the same, and actually know a lot of other moms, but it's hard to even find time to get out much.  I live in Holt with my husband, am 32, and have 2 kids (Austin,5 and Mya, 2). I work part time as an ecologist.  I think it would be fun to get a circle of gals together to hang out every once in a while or have dinner parties, go dancing, etc. It's true if you don't take time for some fun for yourself then you get really down.  Maybe we can get something started in the area - where "near Lansing" do you live?

I live near Lansing, by the way. I'm 31 yrs. old & the mother of 2 - our son, Cooper just turned 3 in Nov. & our daughter Isabella turned 1 at the end of August. I'm interested in meeting other gals in my age bracket, with or without children the same age as mine (close in age would be nice though). My husband is self-employed & I stay at home to raise our kids & run our home office. I don't have much of a life anymore but I'd like to start having one again! I think if I was happier I would be that much better of a mom & wife.
