Hey, I just had my baby boy May 4. I have been exclusively breast feeding for that month and will continue, but my midwife told me that I can't and shouldn't work out for a long time, because it could disrupt my milk supply. Does anyone have any thoughts?

as long as you remain hydrated, you should be fine. i work out daily and exclusively breast feed as well. just remember to only drink enough to hydrate yourself b/c forcing down water can actually have the opposite desired effect. it's more about quenching your thirst than drinking as much water as you can, as most people think it is.

I started exercise at three weeks post partum. It was moderate cardio and weight lifting. My milk supply was fine. Just stay extra hydrated. I would just find something that you are comfortable with. I just had ants in my pants so I jumped back on the exercise wagon with gusto.

I started walking a few weeks after I had my son because it helped with my mood (which was pretty horrible to say the least). I found that it actually helped me because I was much calmer afterwards and my milk supply was better. I guess I would hold off on any type of crazy exercise routine that you find yourself exhausted afterwards (simply because nursing itself takes a lot out of you). I'm sure there are all kind of "medical" reasons behind it that I am unaware of but maybe you could try and if you notice it negatively impacting on your supply just slow down.
