My Husband has been in the Navy 4 years now. He was not able to re-enlist with the Navy due to quota so he has decided to do the Blue to Green program and join the army. He will be switching over in December 2009. I'm kinda nervous though since I know nothing about the army. I grew up a Navy brat. My dad is still active duty serving in his 28th year. I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem with overmaned rates and quota and having to switch branches. Any advice for army bases?

Welcome to the Army Family! Well I have no advice on the switch of branches. My husband has always been in the Army. I think its pretty much the same only now he will be deploying on land and not ships. There are a lot of good post out there and there are a lot of bad ones too. But on a good note they are trying to rebuild a lot of them. I am located in Ft Richardson Alaska and I like it so far. We are in the process of becoming a joint military post with Emendorf Air Force Base. I have also been to Ft Lewis Washington and Ft Benning and all of them were good to me. I think it really depends on his MOS also. Well if u have anymore questions feel free to email me.

Tammika,

Thanks for the welcoming...Lord only knows this is a big change headed my way. Thats really cool to hear about Alaska. I went and saw the movie the propsal and that was the first time I had saw some of Alaska...well hopefully they didn't stage it but it looked beautiful. My brother is stationed at Ft. Bening and he prefers it much more than his previous post Ft. Hood. I hear alot of great things about Ft. Carson, Ft. Lewis, and Ft. Drum.

I'm so happy you posted this! My husband is also Navy but is thinking of doing the Blue to Green program to go Army. He is deployed now and hasn't talked to an Army recruiter yet. We are wondering if he will be able to because he recently went to Mast (he was dumb and got in a fight while in port) and was busted down a rank. Do you think your husband would know if they will let mine join? I don't have any advice, just glad to know someone else who's hubby has done this. As far as bases go, I"m loyal to Ft. Carson cause I'm from Colorado Springs, CO and it is a beautiful city!

Valerie,

My Husband just got home from  deployment in Feb 09. He too got in trouble overseas and went to mast and got busted down and all that not so fun stuff. I'm going to assume that they will let yours join if they are letting mine lol...Its funny you mentioned Ft.Carson because if his MOS will allow it that's where we are trying to go. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone either. We will have to KIT and let me know how it all works out for you. When does your hubby return??
