Any Ft. Hood Mamas?

Hey, things will work itself out. Fort Hood/Killeen area is an every-growing community..we stay in Harker Heights, south of Ft. Hood. we opted for temporary corporate housing b/c it was already furnished and we didn't want to move twice, while buying a home. We are new, here since April, and getting around. If you like a quiet, close knit type of community, Copperas Cove is great. There are great (and no so great) areas in Killeen, but if you decide to live off post, go more towards south of I-90. Be very on top of rental agencies..we got lucky, but there are some that like to rip military folks off. Just stay diligent. We knew nothing before we got here, but people are very resourceful and helpful. Blessings. :o)

Yes you are and no your not alone I feel the same way all the time. I am fairly new to this life too. Me and my husband has been married for almost a year and just found out that we're adding to our family. Right now we're at Ft.Polk La. We weren't suppose to be coming to Ft.Hood but the paper work was mixed up and next thing you know thats were we gonna end up. I hear they say the housing list is long so we had already planned to find something off post. I just have worries about moving there and having my child be born there. But I have to have faith that things will work out, so I would tell you the same thing keep your faith and things will work out.

Welcome to the military life. I grew up Navy then went Army. I was in for a while then got out. I met my husband when we were both in. He got back in about 2 years ago because of the economy. I know the military pretty well so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We bought a house off post. Ft. Hood is what some might call a black hole base. Once you get stationed here, it can be difficult to leave. I really like it here so it works for me! I have 2 boys, one 9 and one 1 year old. They love it as well. This is the largest military base in the world, so they say, and there are a ton of people. I left Ft Hood a year ago, however I thought I would share some information on what I learned living there. There is a place off of Ft Hood Street and the cross road right by Big Lots, forgive me I can't remember the name of the road, however down that road on the right are some apartments. Trying to live off post on anything less than E5 salary is tough, so that is why I am sharing this.... They are not the best looking apartments on the outside however they are owned by a retired military man and weather you need a one bedroom or a two everything is included in the rent. Water, garbage, electric, and basic cable... Unless his prices have changed a two bedroom goes for less than the standard BAH rates... I hope that helps..

AND anyone who is still in the Ft Hood area and knows which road I am talking about can tell you the name...Hope that helps..

We have been here since 07 and we are here for the long haul so we bought a house. onpost housing is tedious waiting. they are building alot of new houses so it may become available sooner...maybe not. the only for sure thing in the army is nothing is for sure. lol. just be careful u guys dont get ripped off and stuck in some crazy lease...and if u are gonna live offpost, try to stay away from jwc rentals...they are super crazy and like to break their rules...good luck!

im also at ft hood the house list is long we got a house over in coppaser cove it a really nice place...im also pretty new here and to the army life it get hard but just keep your head up i also have a 2 year old and a baby on the way so if u ever need to talk you can message me

Were living off post in Killeen. We have 2 sons and another on the way. We have lived on post before on Fort Hood as well. The only good part I found with that was beating the daily traffic, which is not always that great. But alot of the houses are very old and in not so good condition, hardly any have carpet. We like off post way better. and you can start looking from where you are. Alot will help you out through phone and fax. But Stay away from the Rancier area! Not a good place to raise a little one. And yes Fort Hood is HUUUUGGGEEE! Lots of people to meet. But it means that theres planty to do in the area. If you want feel free to add me, I can answer almost any question you have, Im past military, my husband is still in and we have been here for 3 years, So I know the area very well.

My husband is stationed here at Ft Hood as well. He put us on the waiting list for post housing and yes it will take several months before you will even get a call back because there are soo many people on this base!! it's huuuuge!!! So my suggestion is ask him to look for an apartment or a house off base in either Killeen or Copperas Cove... We live off post in Copperas Cove.. This area is fairly nice and pretty quiet and it's fairly cheaper. Yes like he said it will end up he wil most likely have to go report to base first and then within like a week or so he will be able to go on leave to straighten out the housing situation.
