Christina...we are currently at Ft Campbell, but I grew up about 30 min away from Ft Eustis in VA Beach. There is so much to do in the Hampton Roads area...also known as the 7 cities. Virginia Beach has the ocean front, the boardwalk, seashore state park (which is beautiful!), Back Bay Nature Preserve, Sandbridge Beaches, Chicks Beach (which is on the Chesapeake Bay), Mount Trashmore (sounds weird, but fun for the kids), Ocean Breeze Waterpark, the Virginia Aquarium, Lynnhaven Mall (which in my opinion is the best mall in the area), Town Center and lots of shopping and awesome places to eat! Chesapeake is more suburban, lots of shopping centers and malls. Suffolk is country...check out the Peanut Festival in October...fun for the kids. Norfolk is nice is some areas and ghetto in others. There is a lot of nightlife downtown on Granby street, there is an artsy community called Ghent close to downtown, the Chrysler Museum of Art, and the Harrison Opera House are located there. There is also a great zoo in Norfolk...lots of fun for the kids! If you are sports fans, Norfolk has a minor league baseball team (the Tides), ice hockey (the Admirals), or you could go to a football or basketball game at Old Dominion University! Also, check out MacCarthur mall in downtown Norfolk for shopping. Portsmouth has a Children's museum and a cool old eat in movie theatre called the Commodore. You will more than likely be living in Newport News or Hampton...they are right beside each other. There you will find the Air and Space Museum, the Virginia Living Museum (great for the kids!), Christopher Newport University and Hampton University. They just built a new towncenter in Newport News, with lots of shops and food. Hampton has the Colloseum, which is a great concert venue and the circus comes there once a year. In each of the cities, there is always something going on, festivals, outdoor concerts, all within a 30 minute drive. About 30 minutes North of you will be Williamsburg and Jamestown...very historic areas, and Williamsburg is beautiful, plus it has Great Wolf lodge (an indoor waterpark), Busch Gardens Europe amusement park and Water Country USA waterpark. Make sure while you are there you take at least one trip down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, it will be about a two hour drive, but well worth it if you are beach people! I am so jealous...I miss home and the beach sooooo much! If you need anything and have any questions about the area, please don't hesitate to ask...I live right here in Clarksville, so if you want to talk in person, we can do that too. Good luck with the move!
