Changing a child support order with parents in 2 different countries

My husband was divorced earlier this year before we got married. He was in the USA (discharged after being stationed in Germany) at the time of the divorce hearing while she and their son are still stationed in Germany. He was not able to be present at the divorce hearing and had no representation. He was ordered to pay child support to her and they were given joint physical custody. She was not ordered to pay him anything while their son is with him. His son has been here with us since August 15 and will be here until April 2013. How do we go about getting the child support order modified? He shouldn't have to pay her child support while he has physical placement of his son.

I've started calling lawyers for a free consultation and am still waiting to be contacted. I was hoping to find someone with a similar experience who could give some insight. We can't be the only one in this type of situation with the amount of families in the military.

Contact the court where you are and ask them what you need to do.
