Can anyone tell me anything about becoming/being command-sponsored. My husband and I are being sent to Germany this coming Feb. Today, one of his higher ups told him that I should look into becoming command-sponsored and that if I did we would make more money. But everything I've found about it has nothing to do with money and only talks about tours that are 2 yrs or shorter. We're being sent for 4. Any info would be great. Thanks

He will have time for a breifing when he gets back. don't worry. As long as you are able to get command sponsored done, as well as getting passports you will be fine when it's time to leave.

No, he hasn't gone to briefings or anything yet because he's currently deployed. He won't be back until Oct at the earliest and than we leave in Feb, so they aren't giving us much time to get everything done. That's why I was trying to figure out as much as possible

The only time I have ever seen anyone go not command sponsored is because they were turned down by EFMP and couldn't get med clearence! I wouldn't want to go unless I was command sponsored! Your hubby should know this stuff. Has he not went to any briefings etc ...

In order for anyone to go over seas with their spouse/parent, you must be command sponsored to receive the allowances. Realistically, you should be sponsored for a variety of reason besides that. For instance, you will not have as many rights if you go over seas without sponsorship. It is a simple process but it takes some time and paperwork. I had to go through it with my husband. If you need any help, I will be happy to assist. We have had lots of friends go to Germany w/ spouses. Also, on a side note. Since you will be command sponsored if you do anything to violate the law in the place of residence, you can be removed from that country. I always thought that was interesting.

No other paper work since you and your child is in DEERS. Just get the sponsorship done. =) EFMP is a just encase you may needed it. The screening process should be a quick one. once they know you and your child will not needed they will just sign off on the paperwork.

Tamara - so since both our child and I are in DEERS under him and all the paperwork was filed years back when we got married, I don't have to worry about more paperwork for this sponsorship thing? That's a relief
As far as the EFMP, I thought that was only for family members that have special needs.

There's so many things to do for this! I feel like I find out something new EVERY day! Why does the army have to be so difficult?!

From what I understand command sponsorship pertains to any dependents that are outside the Continental US and that would be you. If you were married there, he should have reported that to his command with proper paperwork- DA Form 2083-R, birth cert.,marriage license etc.

Then when your next PCS comes up you will automatically be included.

So from what I'm understanding, I have the option to either be or not be command sponsored. But that it's pretty silly to not be because than we won't have the benefits. Is that correct? And if so, what's the first step in getting sponsored?
Sorry, I've looked at so many forms and so much information the last few weeks I'm beginning to get confused.

Apply to be command sponsored as soon as possible! It helps with pay, travel, & moving. It took us about 3 months for the whole process to be complete due to random waiting and protocols. We were eventually sponsored but had to come up here on our own dollar due to my husbands being up here already. Good luck!

We are AF here in Germany I can tell you it sucks with our being command sponsored. You will not have tricare prime, so you must see Germany dr's off base. He will not get housing for you all just a single person, not COLA (cost of living allowance) for you all,,you can not drive over here with our a Germany driver license. They will only ship depending on his rank about 1,000 pd of house hold goods. My question why would not command sponsor you all? Yeah no daycare for your kids or DOD school. I have a few that have come over no command sponsor They are very broke, see why they would not sponsor you. Praying for ya, God bless!

You will get a little more money such as cola. Get your EFMP screening done and from there you can start the commad sponsored paper work. It also help when the army cuts plane tickets and what not. good luck.

I don't know how it works with the Army, but in the Marine Corps if you are not command sponsored you don't have the option to live on base housing which could be challenging.
