Divorcing - has anyone used a military divorce lawyer in Aurora, CO??

My husband and I are getting a divorce..... I'm now a CO resident (again) and we will be filing here..... I know this is going to be a nasty divorce..... Child custody and child support - two things we won't agree on. Has anyone used a military divorce lawyer in Aurora? Do you have any advice?? I'm completely clueless to a lot.... I've been a stay-at-home mom and we live paycheck to paycheck. ANY advice or answers would be amazing. Thanks in advance. He's an E-5 (or will be in December/January) - can I expect alimony til I can get on my feet? I was not prepared for this at all and he cleaned out even the change jar while he was here. We have $5 in our account to get thru the next 2 weeks. I don't know what to do next.....

I am not in CO, I am in Ohio, but I do know how hard it is to start over. I was a stay-at-home mom after I chose to et out of the Army for our kids. 3 years later he left me, but one thing I do know is he is required to pay you "family support" during the separation. It is by regulation AR 608-99. If you are not receiving this you can contact th legal department at his base, or chain of command. I had a similar fight, but my ex wanted to make a family, and now he must still provide for the children. I hope this helps you while you start over. And I am sorry that you are going through this. i am really sorry this is happening to you and the kids, i hate to see military wives or any wives blindsided without a plan. i would get some money for school if you haven't gone already from the military if you can..before the divorce is finalized so you can get on your feet faster, they have programs like CNA and Phlebotomy(i know everyone doesn't want to do it but its money) and it can help you get on your feet faster. MYCAA....the free law clinic seems to be a better bet when money is that tight. i know in this complex that they give free food away on wednesdays to servicemembers and family, bread, canned food, juices, snacks...maybe look into that on base where you are. do you have family that can help and there is also a website

www.indeed.com...where you can find a job in the area to help you become more independent during the process so you wont have to depend on you because he apparently isnt dependable...

I can tell you, you will get maintenance pay (alimony) during the divorce and only for about 2 yrs after. I am going to strongly warn you. CO is now part of the Dad's rights movement. Have all your i's dotted and t's crossed. You will also have to get a CFI (Child family investigator) those are pricey to determine parenting time and who is the primary parent. They have free family law clinics. Go to the court house and they will have a list of attorney's that are currently doing pro bono and the free or inexpensive family law attorney offices.
