Enrolling my daughter in tricare - HELP

I tried to find information on this before posting, but I can't find what I'm looking for. Can anyone please help me?

My daughter is 9.5 months old. I have never been in a relationship with her father - nor was he present in my life while I was expecting her.... so he is not listed on the birth certificate. We have been through court and had our DNA tests - he is most definitely her father - so he is paying child support and comes to some visitations.

My question is: Can I enroll her with TRICARE? She doesn't have his last name nor is his name on her birth certificate - but a court has legally determined that she is his biological child. I do not know him well enough (or trust him enough) to give him her social security card and/or birth certificate... not to mention that he has no interest in following through with my request to list her under his insurance..... So anyways: is this something I can do on my own? If so - where do I start? Thank you in advance!.. also it's not too late to add her to tricare is it since it's been 9.5 months since her birth and 7 months since we had court...?

Hello, I know that this post is a few months old but I will post anyway, I used to work in the tricare office and like Nyke stated only the AD military member is allowed to enroll any dependents for tricare. I will tell you this: if u want her to have health insurance while he is AD he will have to enroll her into the DEERS data base. With this he will need to provide them with the original copy of your child birth certificate and SS card. What you can do is try and see if you can go on base with him that way you wouldn't have to hand him all original documents. Also he should be having to pay child support since you have proven paternity. Once that happens I really do recommend that you have your child enrolled with tricare. There are two types; tricare prime and standard. Prime is a no fee for service plan (but a monthly premium with be allotted from his LES). The only setback with this is depending on what area you are in you have to have her treated at a MTF (mil treatment facility). If not then they will assign you to a provider and you have to get provider referrals for everything except the ER. With standard you can take your child to be seen anywhere but you will be subjected to pay for 20% of the bill.

First I will say there is NO deadline for Tricare enrollment. But to answer you big question. The service member is the Only one who can enroll or make changes to the Tricare insurance (unless you have a Power of Attorney from him). I don't know any other way, so I wont speculate.
