Try switching formula..I tried giving my son Enfamil and he kept spitting it up and then i went to simulac and he took that just fine.

I think if your doctor said that it was ok to breastfeed while on the medication you should be fine.. She may just be one of those babys who spits up a lot.. But if you are not comfortable with breastfeeding because of the meds I do understand.. I probably would be the same way.. Dont be hard on yourself though.. She will get use to the formula, and if she doesnt maybe you could try another kind.. This site should help you with EVERYTHING.. www.llli.org They even have numbers that you can call to talk to someone I believe.. So dont worry, eveything will be ok.. And remember, there are some women who cant breastfeed or just dont do it all because they dont want to.. At least you are giving it your all, that is all that matters and your daughter will love you no matter what =) I breastfed my son but for some reason right before he went to bed I wouldnt have any milk coming in so I would have to give him formula.. He did not like it one bit, but that was because he was so use to having my milk.. It was just really different.. But he did eventually get used to it.. And I too felt really bad about having to do this.. I actually cried a lot because he didnt even want the formula at first.. I felt like I wasnt doing what I was suppose to do, like I wasnt being a good mom because I couldnt feed my own son.. But dont feel that way.. it will be ok =) Good luck with everything, I hope she starts to like the formula..

have you tried using your milk and mixing it with the formula to start? my dr told me to try that when i had to use antibiotics! hope it helps :)

Are you doing the right thing.. You are trying the best you can. Whether or not you can breastfeed is out of your control at this point. So yes, I say you are doing the right thing. Don't feel bad b/c you can't breastfeed her right now. As for the formula, sometimes it takes babies a try or two, or sometimes a little more, but they will soon realize that they are hungry and that the formula satisfies that hunger. Just keep trying, she'll get it. I promise you, she will. Be persistent. Good luck, Joetta! Keep us posted, k?

Is it possible that perhaps the medication is not causing the problem, that maybe it is something like reflux? My daughter was fine up until about 4 months. She then developed severe projectile reflux and vomiting. Just wondering. :) Hope that you are able to figure this out!

Try half and half...half breastmilk, half formula. Then in a week or so do three quarters breastmilk to one quarter formula. That should get her back into the swing of things, keep your supply going, and make you feel better. Good luck...

Acyclovir is what they commonly use to treat Shingles from what I read. It is completely safe to use while pregnant and breastfeeding like your Doc said. Did you ask her Peds Doc if he thought the medication might be making her spit up more? Babies do spit up a lot the first 3 months of their lives due to an undeveloped digestive system. Especially breastfed babies due to what us Mom's consume in our diets. I had a friend that had to take Acyclovir while breastfeeding and her baby spit up regardless of whether she took the medication or not. I would def ask her Peds Doc before you start substituting with the formula. As far as taking the formula have you only tried giving her one kind? You might want to try a diff brand. She just might not like the kind you are giving her. I hope this helps and I hope you get better soon. :o)

You are not any less of a mom because of your situation. I feel that you are making the best decision for you and your daughter. I was not able to breastfeed my son, and it really bothered me. I felt that I was lacking as a mom. Keep your head up! About the formula, keep trying it. Maybe try a different brand. We tried 4 different brands with my son before we found one that he would eat and not give him colic. You will be fine. If you need anything send me a message.

I think you are doing everything you can, I would do the same thing, you are doing what the dr and lactation consultant is telling you to and you cant do much more. Many women would just give up by now and you havent. Be proud of yourself and hang in there.
