Hard decision

Last night my husband informed me that he was switching to active duty Army. He is currently a Seabee in the Navy but is a reservist. (I was recently discharged from active duty Navy) We just had our new daughter 2 weeks ago and I'm so scared that they will deploy him right away. I never liked the idea of the Army and never thought my husband would decided to change branches. I keep telling him no that I don't want him to switch but I feel like I'm being selfish. Any suggestions on how to deal with this???

You should sit down with your husband and talk about it. Write down the pros and cons and both of you come to a conclusion TOGETHER!!!! I understand how hard of a decision it is, especially because you guys just had a baby and you want him to be there for everything, but remember, there will ALWAYS be someone there for you during deployments. My friends have become family because of what we have gone through together. My husband and I have been at a non-deployable unit for the past two years, we just got orders to go to Japan and he will have to deploy again.. My son will be a year and five month by the time we get there and I know that seeing my husband have to say good bye to him will be one of the hardest things I will ever have to experiance, but I also know that I will have plenty of other wifes who will be there when I need them ( I know its not the same).. I support my husband and the decisions he makes for our family, but that doesnt mean that we dont talk about them first.. You have to both come to a happy medium. Good luck with everything, let me know what you guys decided =)

The army isn't really all that bad. Depending on where you go the housing is pretty nice, and most of the area's are great. I like being an army wife. I was a little apprehensive about it at first, but was able to adjust very quickly. My husband's been in for 5 years, and is just now halfway through his first deployment. Granted that doesn't happen for everyone, we just got lucky. But you'll have a lot of support while he's deployed, and make some good friends, they're a big help. I know its a little early to be thinking about this, but most of the time the schools on post are really good too. Just keep your head up, and try not to let things get to you. The army can be a really good lifestyle if you let it be.

I'm an Army wife and I love it. I grew up a Navy brat and I must say, I much prefer one or 2 long deployments a year than 2-12 short ones that the Navy offers. I am sorry that you are having a hard time dealing, but know that the Army is really not so bad. It is a great branch and we all take care of each other. :)

The Army needs good soldiers! It is more difficult to deal with the longer and more frequent deployments but that's what is needed to accomplish the missions. My Husband is Active Army and I'm proud that he serves his country. Just know that there are tons of Army wives out there for support. Every situation is as good or bad as you make it.
