how did you meet people.

we live off base in regular housing. im not sure if it harder or not since ive never lived on base or in military housing. i came from a small town that ive lived in or close by all my life. have had the same friends and knew the same people for a good 5 years. im finding kinda hard to meet and make friends now that ive moved half way across the counrty, i came from texas to san diego california. im alone most the time since my hubby is navy and is gone a lot. and will soon be depolying. any ideas or advice would be great!

HI im danielle, My husband is marine he is a drill instructor, and he is never home, we have two children. Its been really hard for me to find friends or other wives. we live in point loma, i would love to set up a playdate and meet some other wives

It is so hard to meet people. My husband is stationed at a college, so no other military families out here, and very few families period.
I have met people on Freecycle and other yahoo groups. I also meet people at church and story hour at the library.
I also love to go for walks as a family, When we are out in our neighborhood I have no issue with introducing myself if people are outside playing with their kids.

Meeting people that might share the same intrest as you or hobby: meetup.com



If you are near a military base see if they have a family readiness groups, or spouses club.



I have made friends with people by bring my kids to the park or if they are in school volunteering.

there's a lot of mommy groups you can get involved with. when my hubby first joined in the military, we also moved to san diego from texas and i had a hard time making friends too. there's should be a family readiness support group in his unit. you should ask him to find out the number. i know there's a lot of different mops you can do. we just moved here to colorado and i've met some ladies off of here! look for groups in your area in the search and i bet you can get some play dates going that way. it's really hard meeting people.. especially when it's a totally different place then you're used to! but just be patient and be open to meeting people and making connections. you'll make friends soon! good luck!
