WE DID!!!! We got married at the Courthouse on July 9th 2009. It's extremely common for military to marry this way. I also have several friends who actually got married via telephone lol. I actually still want a full on wedding and are planning to do so for our 5 year wedding anniversary. The Dress, the drama and all that goes with it lol. I hear this is also common =)

i did get married at the court house but this was before hubby joined the military. I really would like to have a wedding "small wedding" someday considering we dont even have pictures to show for it. But people who have big weddings I hear all the time wish they had saved the money and got married at the court house. So dont know which maybe better but I wish I had taken pictures at the time we also had no money and where living in a hotel at the time. Shortly after hubby went into the army and made our lives 10X better would change that for the world :)

Being that both myself and hubby were in the Army (I was stationed in Wiesbaden and he was in Giebelstadt)we had to get a translator and all that. We got married at Rathaus(city hall) and 4 days later we had our ceremony. Aaron's commander married us in flight in one of their Chinooks. We got married June 24 2002, in flight ceremony June 28

my husband and i have been married for 2 years now and we got married at the courthouse. i wore a white summer dress and he wore black pants and a white button up shirt. the only people that joined us was my grandma and both of our parents. both of our dads signed the papers. i knkow that a lot of poeple told me that i didnt want to to that and i should have had a wedding but honestly i couldnt be any happier, my husband did have some money for going over to greece but we decided to save the money for something other than a wedding. my opinion, i think weddings are a waste of time and money. one of my friends got married right after me and she had a wedding and she went the cheapest route that she could go and she still spent $15k and she it made her really stressed and turned her into a bridezilla.

LOL...I did!!! There is not a thing wrong with it if you're truly in love. I think so much focus is placed into the actual wedding that everything else just kind of gets lost. I married my hubby back in '01 and we're still happily together. Can I say the same for friends who spents thousands on wedding ceremonies? No. Maybe in the future we'll have a small wedding with family and friends...only time will tell.

We didn't get married at the courthouse but we did have a very tiny wedding with only our parents his siblings and my grandmother. We have our 4 year anniversary coming up and we are going to start planning our 5 year wedding vow renewal and honeymoon. We are debating on bringing our son who will be 2 1/2 by that time.
I just want a vacation and photos in a beautiful long dress and to get to ride in a limo. :0)

We got married at the courthouse on Friday Jan 18, 2002. He flew to Korea for a year Saturday Jan 19, 2002. We have now been married for 10 yrs come Jan 2012. Our plans for a ceremony kept being put off so finally we are renewing our vows and celebrating with a ton of friends. I love that we got married at the courthouse, it makes me more appreciative of my dress, cake, dj, photographer and friends this coming January. We are getting new bands and going to have one heck of a party!

i didnt get married at a courthouse, but a lot of woman here are saying cost was an issue. i just wanted to add we got engaged the end of October, married by the end of December. we got married in the mountains where we first met. i paid 350 for my dress because davids bridal was having a 75% off sale, we had an ordained minister who met us there, and she only charged 100$ then just gas to get there, it was beautiful, done quickly, and very cheap!

Courthouse wedding Feb 2002, we just had a house fire and had nothing. we did have a VERY small wedding in April for our families and close friends, but thats it. Military isnt known for making the big bucks, most cant afford a big wedding and dont have close living relitives to help pay. We deal with unique situations and the courthouse is the easiest way to be with that special service member.

Well that is in my opinion a reall military wedding. Each person joing the military for one thing or another. But one thing is for sure unless your spouse is officer that money doesnt go far. We went to the courthouse during lunch to sign the paperwork and returned after work to get married $61. And we have like 4 picture by a cellphone, yes...lol. But we laugh about it now he keeps saying you cant say I didnt pay for our wedding. I think courthouse and for those living overseas internet wedding is just a common thing. And I enjoyed my day, we had to even pick up the certificate after the weekend. I smile each time I think about it...lol.

My husband proposed a month before he was due to leave for Iraq, and at the last minute we decided to get married before he left. JP, just us and a friend for a witness. We were young and didn't have much money, nor the time to plan a big, elaborate affair. BUT we renewed our vows on our fifth anniversary, with the church, the dress, the whole nine yards. I was six months pregnant with our second child and wouldn't trade that memory for the world. I think it meant a lot more to us than it would have in the beginning. It was wonderful!

We got married January 22,2007 in a courthouse in jacksonville nc. It was literally thrown together and last minute because I was planning our wedding and was almost done and about to go drop off depoisits when he comes to me saying he was deploying in feb and he wanted to get married as soon as possible to make sure I was taken care of while he was gone. it rained before our jp wedding one of our witnesses who is our daughter's godfather couldnt get off work so we had to scramble and find another one. Than our jp looked beyond scary lol but other than all of that it was great we met up with our friend who couldnt get off work and he was excited.

We got married 10-24-08 and did the courthouse wedding off post and decided to save til our 5 year anniversary and have a huge wedding to renew our vows. We have pictures and everything but it wasn't a big stress. Are we over budget, can out of town family make it, even though were doing the big wedding it's more for us. Did I mention he's catholic. This was a 2nd marriage for both of us. Both of our first were courthouse weddings. My ex husband and my husband are both military.

We just did on Sept. 3 2010. And it seems to be A VERY VERY common thing down here at Ft. Hood in Texas. We didn't have a lot of the money either so we have talked about in a year having a small wedding with the rest of our family around and re doing our vows - like a wedding. It was nice though cause it was just he and I and it just seemed so right and better that way just being us the way we wanted to.

[deleted account]

Yep, Courthouse wedding here too! And as we were driving away from the courthouse they called him in, even though they knew he was getting married that afternoon. So I ended up sitting in the car for a hour and a half in the parking lot staring at concert buildings. What a wedding day, seems like just last year... (well plus 3 more)

It seems pretty typical. We did on May 14, 2008. We eloped REALLY fast [ie. We talked on the phone for two months, met face to face and three days later got married!!] We could have waited and saved the money for a wedding, but didnt see the point. Everyone always complains about the stress of wedding planning. We saved ourselves a headache! [And a lot of money!]

My husband and I got married at the courthouse, too, back in 2008. I've known a lot of military to get married at the JOP, but then again I've also known a lot that have an actual wedding. It's mainly just personal preference and/or whether or not you have enough money.

They wouldn't even give him the time to do a courthouse wedding during the weekday! We had a wedding of 6 guest in MD for $300 on July 12, 2008 because he was being stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Just to make you laugh, I'll tell you something funny. She asked what kind of wedding I wanted, I said religious spiritual. She mistook that as like pagan. We ended up praying to mother earth and the moon God. I couldn't help but laugh the entire time!

I got married at the court house where we are from, it wasn't about not having the money it was about not having enough time. I always dreamed of a big wedding until my dad passed away when I was 12, then I wanted something simple. We went to the JP and had a reception after at my Aunt's house with lots of food.

I got married at a courthouse April 9, 2009, basically for the same reason as you. It was the fastest way and I moved to Colorado where my husband is stationed at suddenly so we had to get married for us to be able to get a palce together, and we had already been together on and off since I was 11, and I'm now 20 so we also figured it was time and we were definitely ready!

i had a courthouse wedding. married in fort bliss, texas at the el paso courthouse and had a big pretty wedding 5 months later. most of our friends at fort bliss did the same. sometimes you just have to do what the military allows time for, which tends to be not much of anything. we havent even been able to go on a honeymoon yet and its been a few years already and we have a 5 month old now so hes taking up a big chunk of our money so the honeymoon is getting pushed back farther than what it would have been in the first place.

My husband and I were married at the courthouse. My husband was deployed on the USS Constellation during 9/11 and when they were finally allowed to port, they started doing work ups to leave back out. Unfortunately they were scheduled to redeploy just before my wedding day so we went to the courts instead. Ironically, we were going to have a wedding this year on our 7th Anniversary and would you know they sent my husband to Iraq just before?
