My hubby is in the Air Force, he was on a TDY for a month and a half. He flew home Labor Day weekend '06 and we got engaged. When he returned home we decided to have two close friends witness our vows at the courthouse. April 16, 2007 we had an official ceremony and now that the official has been done everyone knows we eloped.. except for my dad, I think. HAHA But I wouldn't change it.. we moved fast!! Got married after only 6 months of knowing one another..

My husband and I got married on 9-21-05 and the courthouse in VA sent us to this old mans house. It was weird and our 9 month daughter was our witness. It was crazy. I told him it didn't matter what we did when we got married, but now I DO want my dream wedding so on our 10th anny, we are going to do a renewal and a big blowout, he says that he wants it now too...

I have gotten married at the courthouse too,2006! It was really quick and a nice experience! He had returned from basic, and we wanted to be together! We wanted to save the little bit of money that we had for our honey moon! Little did we know he got drafted overseas only two weeks after we married! So no honey moon! I want a regular wedding but he just dont want to go through all of the wedding thing! But I guess alot of people have done the court house wedding so it doesnt bother me much, anymore!

YES! We got married at City Hall in Chicago on July 19, 2008! He was up there in Great Lakes for Hospital Corpsman school for the Navy, and that was the most convenient way for us. We wanted to plan a wedding for later, but had a baby, and that sort of went to the back burner, but I am still so happy with our perfect day and our city hall wedding. I think that people that get married at the courthouse tend to stay together longer because you are truly getting married because of LOVE and you are not worried about the wedding itself.

Very common. I have met a few ladies that have done the same thing. We got married by court to save some money and had our wedding 6 months after. It worked out great for us.

We got married in the court house on Aug 1 2006, it was fast and two days before he left for basic. We did eventually save up our money and renew our vows in 2007 with an actual wedding!

Yes, it seems to me that it tends to happen more in military relationships. I too got married in a courthouse or Justice of the Peace. We did have all intentions of having a formal ceremony (small) but that still has not happened and we are coming up on the 3 yr. mark. Money is tight in these times and wedding planning to me is more or a wish than a dream come true.

My hubby & I got married at the courthouse in Key West Florida, May 29, 2001. It was a spur of the moment thing. I was living in Nevada and he was in Key West. When I was visiting we woke up one morning and said, " Hey let's get married." We have been married for 8 years now.

Yep. We got married in Feb '94 in front of the JP in Columbus Ga with four guys from his basic training unit as our witnesses. DH was between Basic and Airborne school. We got to spent 4 days together before he started Airborne and I had to return to TX. After Airborne he went straight to Bragg. We got married "officially" that July in front of all our family and friends in TX. The difference in pay helped to cover the expenses for the wedding. We still celebrate both anniversaries each year though most people don't know "why" we celebrate in Feb... its when we got engaged... yeah yeah that's the ticket.

I was in BDUs, he was in ACUs. We got married in courthouse, one witness each. The next day he went to WLC. While he was there I planned our Wedding day, 3 month later, in JAN.

Hello Jyneffer (love the spelling)

We are planning a ceremony once he is on transfer leave after the deployment. I don't believe in spending a whole lot of money but here are some sites I used. I started buying things piece by piece so now all we need is a date! Having it at a church saves too and we were going to get the food from Sams Club!

www.weddingstar.com

wwww.efavormart.com

www.invitationsbydawn.com

www.zazzle.com (invites/save the dates)

Good Luck!!!

Congrats!!!!

I also had a courthouse wedding, bc my husband was transfered to Norfolk. We did a small common wedding and he wore his uniform. I think is more common that is known. I've had 6 friends up here that have also got married at a courthouse. It makes everything with DEERS and Tricare ALOT faster to get done. So I hope his helps.

Hello!

My husband and I did the courts because we had a wedding planned but he got deployed so we did it for $150.00 and called it a day. To be honest courthouse weddings are common for everybody.

So many people non-military are saving their money on the Dog and pony shows and saying their sweet exchanges and either pocketing the money, saving it or putting it on a house or car.

So I am all for courthouse weddings!

I got married at a courthouse we didn't have the money for a wedding and plus he was going in already and I was pregnant with out first baby. and my parents got married in court also my dad was NAVY just like my husband is. so i would say its common for the military because a few of my friends got married that way to and they are all military.

I got married at City Hall. There is nothing wrong with that. Don't feel bad about it. Plenty of people do it for all different types of reasons. I do plan on having a more "festive" ceremony next year sometime.

Married at the courthouse February 1st, 2008 for paperwork before deployment, and Wedding with family and friends February 23rd, 2008. Don't worry very common, I go to about 4-5 weddings a year for guys getting married in my husbands unit, because they need a witness.

I believe they are very common. Me my husband when I was active duty and then after I got out a few years later he got orders to leave to Washington so we had to get married real quick. Married on January 10th 2006 by the judge in Honolulu, Hawaii. Besides could you imagine how much a realy Hawaii wedding would have cost. Though I am trying to talk him into havind a real one someday.

oh & i forgot to add that we were married on April 26th 2006 ~ right before his 2nd deployment, our 1st as a family & i was preggo with our first baby, Haidin. my oldest daughter was with us, Rilie & we didnt even need a witness. we just went in, signed some papers, showed our IDs & that was it. we were done. i can NOT wait to say my vows to him tho. that is whats most important to me...even tho i tell him how much i love, care for & appreciate him EVERYDAY, i still cant wait to write & speak my vows to my Love, my Hero, my Husband... =0)

I think its pretty common! LOL! We did as well. We got married March 29th 2007 and he left for Re-processing April 12th 2007. We did have the "real" ceremony in November of 2007. I had actually bought my wedding dress a week after I got engaged in Dec. 06. So we always planned to have the big wedding. The Army just sped things up a little! Congrats on the marriage!!! :)
