So...those of you that have been to a Military Ball. Can you give me any input on what the ladies wear? I'm looking on different websites, for formal dresses and all of them are the really poofy dresses that are floor length. Some are slim and floor length, some to the knee..I'm looking for a floor length dress..I have some issues with my feet swelling so it needs to be covered up. I love the poofy dresses, but wouldn't want to look like a fool at the Ball. Does anyone wear those types of dresses? Or does everyone wear the long slimming dresses? I've never been to a ball before..never worn a formal dress...any hints would be appreciated! I have found some nice dresses on Ebay, are their any other websites out there?

Military Ball are formal events and commonly ladies wear long gown (unless stated otherwise) but less on showing off of skin and definitely not poofy. You may use this website http://www.therosedress.com/Evening/Mili... ....It is where I have bought my military ball dresses. I have set my eyes on some dresses already for the upcoming military ball. And oh, they have tips there too. It might help you. Check them out!

I just went to a ball a few weeks ago. The biggest thing I can tell you is to find something that is comfortable. Remember you are going to be in it for several hours. I wore a long dress that was kind of form fitting but very stretchy so I could actually move. It was floor length as well. I am in Korea and bought it before I left the states at Ross's. Don't know if they have those where you are but you can find some really nice dresses there and cheap. I see all kinds of dresses but it probably should be floor length not knee length. Don't have something that is too revealing. Let it be very tasteful. Poofy dresses are nice but remember you are going to be sitting and standing so you may not want to be too poofy. Get something that compliments your husbands uniform but don't clash. I hope this helps. Oh I wouldn't get stilettos unless you can work them for hours on end. Of course I had on small heals and the shoes came off after a while especially on the dance floor. Be yourself and have fun. I know you will have a great time. After this one you will be an old pro. Hope this helps.

Believe it or not...Overstock.com! Great prices and fast shipping. Read all the reviews, they are pretty accurate. I just received a dress that fits like a glove. Long, floor length and comfy for a long night of speeches! Now for shoes and a hairstyle:) Good luck and have fun.

my friends and I have always worn the long slim dresses (for army special forces balls). some do wear cocktail dresses. I've gotten mine at Dillards and Macy's.

christinagowns.com; www.simplydresses.com/dresses/dress_by_event/military_ball; they have some nice examples and dresses to buy. I went to our community center on base to get mine. They have a dress shop.

A long dress is appropriate for balls. I usually wear a long slender dress...nothing poofy. It drives me crazy when I see ladies in knee length dresses. JCPenny usually has some nice dresses as well as Chadwick's. Something similar to a bridesmaid dress is appropriate. Enjoy yourself and have fun!

everyone wears different dresses. my first one i wore a slim floor length dress and the second i wore a puffy floor lenthg dress. my best friend wore a short dress both times. the last ball i went to some girls wore simple cocktail dresses. really everyone wears something different.. my advice is just make sure you're comfortable :0

You can wear whatever style you like. I've seen both. I wore a poofy one at the last one I went to a few months ago.

from the navy side, i'm gonna say yes. i've also seen everything from cocktail dresses to prom type dresses to totally inappropriate. =) it all depends what you feel comfortable in. right now is a good time to be looking since there should be holiday style dresses out on the racks. i would say try to stay in between fairy tale princess and cocktail style and you can't go wrong. i've worn just about everything in between and have bought from sear, dillards, macy's and ross all with great selections at very affordable prices. good luck finding something!

The air force balls are very formal. But I haven't seen puffy dresses like prom but I have seen puffy like bridesmaid dresses if you know the difference. I always wore floor length slimming dresses.

i would also go with a long dress. when i went to my husbands ball i wore a long slim dress. however there were plenty of people in puffy dresses too. wear what you will be most comfortable in you dont want to spend all night addjusting the girls or pulling at your dress. try looking at deb not sure of there website probably just deb.com they have a lot of dirrerent styles and have them in all sizes.

When I went, we had everything from semi-formal house dresses to something that looked like a storybook princess. I bought mine at Ross for $20 and it looked better than half the women at the ball. One wife came in with the Full ball gown deal that was solid white with Red trim. It was gorgeous, but a bit too much for me. It ranges. Its great too b/c it shows different styles, tastes, and its fun. Its not like a high school prom where you have to wear whats in style. Have fun

I have seen many different type of dresses at the Army ones I have been to (too many!!). There are definitely women that wear the fitted top/full skirt dresses. There are women that wear the long slimming dresses. I've even seen women wear cocktail dresses. Regrettably I saw a girl wearing something completely inappropriate that made the commander set forth rules for the next ball lol. I think that the main thing for a ball is to be comfortable!! As comfortable as you can be while still enjoying your Princess evening. I have seen some really nice dresses at Ross but that's a local store, not website. I like looking at Dillards and Nordstroms and seeing what's "in" and what would look flattering on me and then trying to find cheaper dresses that have similar cuts and styles. If you go to AAFES.com and check out their "mall" or whatever, the contracted stores, you can find good prices on formal dresses. Also sometimes Fredericks of Hollywood has nice ball gown, oddly.

Most of all, HAVE FUN!!!
