Yikes! I am excited yet nervous! We will be moving to Fort Riley at the end of the summer and hoping to meet some families already there. We are coming from USAG Grafenwoehr Germany. We have never lived in that part of the US, lived in WA and GA and 3 years in Japan a long time ago!

Married for over 13 years, 3 children, 11, 9 & 6 (he'll be 7 the month we get there)!

My post was interrupted by house hunting in AL. Milford is small and to me a little dirty. In Manhattan there are a few good activities for kids. The community house has classes, during the summer splash park which turns into an ice skating ring in the winter. We were able to find a few reasonably priced houses to rent. I can give you the website if you wish. Living on post would be probably be a better idea, I just don't know the wait list time.

We just left FT. Riley. We lived in Manhattan, which I loved. Junction city was ok, but not for me. The schools in Junction City is what kept me from the area. I did not often go on post, but it was a nice post. The people there are pretty nice.

My family and I are moving in a couple of months to Fort Riley. Sounds like you should be settled in KS by now. :) Can you share your recommendations as a newly Kansas resident? Is the waiting list long for on post housing? Milford vs Junction City vs Manhattan vs on post? How about the schools, any suggestions?

I am stationed at Fort Riley now and it is ok. I have been here 3 years now and ready to leave. There is nothing really around here and for anything to really do you have to drive an hour away. I would suggest to leave on post just because it is hard to find a nice good house in a nice neighbor off post plus renting is high. The schools are good here and the weather changes all the time

We have been here for over two years and love it. Just found out that we are going to Fort Riley next. If you get the chance go to Neuschwanstein Castle, it is well worth the trip! We also took a trip to Legoland Deutchland, our kids loved it! Haven't rode a train yet though! We are trying to squeeze in a few more family friendly trips before we go to Kansas this summer! We have been to Heidelberg once and did a little sight seeing while we were there.

Wow......we're stationed in Heidelberg, and got here back in Dec. It's a beautiful place. They have classes through ACS about how to use the train system, and some basic things, definitely look into anything they have. We've enjoyed being here so far, and i can't wait for the summer when we can go exploring more. I hope you enjoy it!!
