Oh glad I found this. we just got orders to Osan.. Need some clarity. How hard is it to get a hous unit and how difficult is it to have pets there? Is it true that my husband has to get there before he can bring us along? I have gone to the web site but it seems thier info is old. Please help... :)

Korea is great i am over here now and you are absolutely lucky osan has the best base... and shopping... it also has mwr buses that can shuttle you to any other base for just 5 bucks... there are plenty of amusement parks, malls, a zoo, water parks, and so much more to do here... there are people everywhere looking for nanny and babysitting work or just house cleaning for those days you just need a break or some time with the hubby...there are also marriage retreats that provide daycare for some rekindling time with the family... by the way i have a nine month old little girl and i have been over here for a little over two years... i have been military and civilian stay at home mom.... i understand how you must feel but it is a fabulous opportunity that you should pass up...

Don't forget about PCS childcare thru the CDC! You are entitled to 20 hours (I think, might be more) of free childcare in the first 60 days of arrival. Very helpful when unpacking or even for a small break. Talk to the Airman & Family Readiness Center as soon as possible when you arrive. Also attend any Heartlink or Welcome to Korea orientations that AFRC might put on.
Again Good Luck and Have Fun!

Be prepared for your husband to be very busy. Even without the increased antagonism between North and South Korea, Osan conducts multiple readiness exercises a year. My husband was stationed at Yongsan last year and heard from friends at Osan how busy they were.
That said, the Korean people are friendly and open and LOVE children. You will find the country very safe, though it may take a little while to get used to the smell. The town right off base has great shopping and there's a shuttle bus to Yongsan (in Seoul) making almost hourly runs between the bases.
My advice would be to get involved with as many groups on base as you might think you can handle (MOPS, PWOC, squadron, spouses club, playgroups, etc.). Go on trips organized by Outdoor Rec or Family Readiness. Go to the AF Ball! They have one every year, I think.
Also, Korea is a great place to have clothing made. My husband had his mess dress made there (so we could go to the ball) and it was much better quality than we've seen at military clothing sales here in Germany. The tailor he used is one of the concessionaires right inside the BX.
All in all, enjoy your time there. Be adventurous, learn a little Korean, try the food, get off base when you can (you know... the usual stuff everyone advises) :D. Most of all, enjoy the opportunity to live in a country so different from our own.
Good Luck!
