My little family will be pcsing to Ft Richardson AK, sometime within the next 4-6 months and i was just wondering what some of you ladies think about it there? I have a 20 month old and am a bit worried about extra curricular activities to do.

Im not at Ft Richardson but at Ft Wainwright. A couple hundred miles up north. Its cold very cold its been known to get -40 or colder. Make sure you bundle your kids up. Since youre coming up during the coldest part of the year it may be difficult. Also it may be a lil difficult to get used to all the darkness/light during the summer. Where were at there isnt much for young families with toddlers. But dont worry! Ask around on post they try to organize lots of activites for children and adults. Check with the mwr, they offer discounts on local events & camping/outdoor equipment. Also anchorage has alot more going on than up here or at least more available in restaurants & shopping. People are also always organizing playgroups. My son loves swimming at the pool on post or going to chena lakes. Hes not fond of having to bundle up just to go to the grocery store but we take him somewhere to run off all the energy. If you guys like doing outdoor activities during the summer theres alot to do! Ive travelled cross country and alaska is still one of my favorites. The sights are beautiful. The pictures ive taken of the mountains and the northern lights are amazing. Even though i hate how harsh alaska can be during the winter, some of the locals arent exactly fond of the military, and there isnt much here it can be a great oppurtunity! Good luck!

never been stationed there but you can search for activities online if you google playgroups with the zip code if you dont know the zip code use the city and state. you may need to go thru a few sites but you should be able to find activites for you and your little one to do :) good luck
