You can fly Space A for free to get to the states but then you would have to pay for a ticket on commercial airline where ever home is

You either get a Space A flight (your status would be bumped up since he is deployed). You can only be gone so long before you will have to give up housing. It's usually 30 days or longer. Maybe you could just go visit?



Or you get an EROD early return of dependents and leave early with all of your household items. However, if you EROD they will not pay for you to come back to Japan once the deployment is over.

Thank you everyone. Yeah, I didn't know if there was any truth to that, I just saw someone talking about it so was curious. I probably will just stay there if he does deploy. My friend and her husband (my husband's best friend) are going there too, and if the volunteer, they'll do it together, and I would hate to leave her behind all alone. So I would just stay so we have each other. Thank everyone again for the input!

Here if you have the Military pay to send you home it's called an EROD, Early Return Of Dependents. If that happens, you can't go back unless it's at your own expense. They will send you and all of your stuff back to the states. The other options the other fine ladies have taken care of :)
I have never gone home to stay for a deployment (4 so far, ew) but I can see the draw, especially with multiple children. Best of luck, no matter what happens!!

From what we know, the military only pays to send you back to the US if he has a follow on base. So, if he deploys in Japan, but doesn't have a follow on base after (meaning he's going back to the same place he left from) then no they will not pay for it. I suggest you look into the hops like someone else mentioned. It can be hard to get a flight, but they are pennies on the dollar compared to what a commercial flight can costs. My friend took her two kids from Germany to New York for like two hundred bucks. It can be well worth it. You guys need to talk to like your moving office or someone who would have accurate information. There might be some kind of special circumstance, but as a general rule, it is not the military's financial responsibility to see that you return home during his deployment. Your moving office should have that kind of information though and it wouldn't take but a few minutes to pop in there and ask.

I don't think you can fly for free. You are stationed in Japan, so I don't think they will fly you back. If the military knows you are leaving, you will have to give up your house if you live on post/base. From my experience, you can only leave it vacant for a few months. Things may be different now. I would just stay wherever he is stationed. Your kids need stability and do you really save money being close to family?I know I spend way too much when I just go for visits. My husband has deployed 3 times. Once for 15 mos in Germany and twice in TX for 12 months each. We always stayed where we were stationed. Its just easier that way in my opinion. Good Luck either way

I don't know about the flying free but I know there's military hops you can take which are way discounted. They aren't very stable because the soldiers/sailors fly first so they are priority but it's worth a try. http://www.military.com/Travel/Content1/...,,SAF_overview,00.html
